A young woman, a soldier, makes her way through the broken down buildings in search of some food. But, when she comes across a man, and not just any man, a soldier from the other side–the enemy–they will have to see if they can overcome their impulse to fight in order to find the humanity that binds them together. Spoiler alert: this week we’re analyzing the Twilight Zone episode “The Obsolete Man.” Romney Wordsworth enters a cold, dark courtroom What are the charges? One count of professing to the vocation of a librarian, and the more serious charge of being obsolete–no longer useful to the State. You see, if you can no longer be of service to the State, you can no longer be of service to anyone. But, despite the thundering of the Chancellor atop his pulpit of hate, Mr. Wordsworth will hold on to his integrity and keep his head high through his sentencing. He shall be liquidated at midnight, but how it happens is a bit of a mystery. However, it will be televised for the world to see. And when the Chancellor himself shows up to bid Mr. Wordsworth adieu, things get interesting. On this episode of KOI: A Twilight Zone Show, we’re going to be discussing whether or not we are heading to a place where men shall be obsolete; we’ll ask why it’s so disturbing for the State that Wordsworth is a librarian; and I’ll reveal my moment of awe, a look into why I avoid telling my students what to think. Spoiler alert: We’re discussing important portions of this Twilight Zone episode, so if you have not yet seen the episode, I encourage you to watch it first, and then come back and enjoy our analysis.

A call was just put in to the police: something landed in Tracy's pond, something big, and, perhaps, not of this world. So when the police find tracks leading to a diner, they enter with a bit of anxiety: is one of the people in this establishment a visitor from another planet? The bus driver swears that he picked up 6 passengers, and yet there are 7 in the room--8 if you count the cafe owner. There's a mystery to be solved. And when lights start to blink, jukeboxes start playing on their own, and bowls of sugar exploding for no reason at all, things are starting to get serious.

This week we're taking a look at the Twilight Zone episode "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up." We'll try and create a kind of profile for our Martian friend; we'll talk about the role that grandpa plays in this episode; and I'll reveal my moment of awe, a quick anecdote about bringing this episode into my classroom this past semester.
