• What Can working with Clay tells us about ourselves
    2026/10/15
    • So today, we're talking about clay, and sculpture in general, and the possibilities of, when you get into clay, what it can offer you. So.
    • I mean, as a hobby, or something relaxing to do, it's very nice.
    • I've tried it on a pottery wheel a few times. I wasn't very good, but it was very enjoyable. But what I'm talking about, and I suppose, Lucy as well today, is that how we can use clay to
    • create possibilities for our future. So, it's something that I work with all the time with my students. So, with my dyslexic students, it,
    • Offers a possibility into reading.
    • So, by clearing up confusions, by making models in clay, I have one, a little one here. Now, you won't see this if you're listening to the podcast, but if you're on YouTube, you might see it. It's two little people holding hands, and the child was modeling the word width, which means in the company of.
    • And so, it's a very useful tool in the work that I do. And then for some of my older students, it gives them the opportunity, I suppose, to explore their identity, and what they can
    • achieve by working with the ball of clay. And I suppose, when we were thinking about this, this podcast, I was thinking about, well, like, what else could clay do for other people? So, if they got themselves a ball of clay, how could they use that to create,
    • possibilities for their future, so how can that be adaptable? Because I heard a saying earlier this week, because in addition to talking on podcasts, I listen to lots of podcasts, and the guy who's talking about

  • Travel Holds up a mirror to how we treat ourselves
    2026/10/15

The Identity Edge: How Travel Changes the Way We See the World

Can travelling to another country change how you see yourself, other people and the world around you?

In this episode of The Identity Edge, Lucy Cronly and Anne-Marie Beggs explore how travel broadens our minds, challenges our assumptions and reveals how much of what we consider “normal” is shaped by the culture in which we live.

From Anne-Marie's experiences in Bali and Beijing to Lucy's travels across the United States, they discuss the surprising ways different cultures approach family life, housing, safety, technology and human connection.

They also explore why some people thrive outside their comfort zone while others find unfamiliar environments challenging, and how a simple smile, an open mind or a conversation with a stranger can create meaningful connections across cultures.

Travel can help us appreciate what we have at home, question our assumptions and become more curious about the people we meet every day.

But perhaps the biggest lesson is that we don't have to travel around the world to discover something new. Sometimes, all it takes is looking at familiar people and places from a different perspective.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • How travel broadens our minds and encourages personal growth.
    • Why cultural differences challenge our ideas of what is normal.
    • What experiences in Bali and China taught us about family, lifestyle and society.
    • How travel can change our perceptions of wealth, safety and happiness.
    • Why curiosity and an open mind help us connect with people.
    • How to overcome language barriers and connect through a smile.
    • Why travelling can make us appreciate home in a new way.
    • How everyday experiences reveal the stories behind our identity.

At The Identity Edge, we look at the everyday things that shape who we are and the stories hidden beneath our choices.

What can a pair of shoes, a garden, a dance floor, a paintbrush or a suitcase tell you about who you are? Quite a lot, as it turns out.

Listen, reflect and discover a new perspective.

  • What Can a Garden Teach Us About Who We Are?
    2026/09/21

What can a garden teach us about ourselves?

In this episode of The Identity Edge, Lucy Cronly and Anne-Marie Beggs explore the surprising connection between gardening, personal growth, wellbeing and discovering who we really are.

A garden isn't just about pulling out the weeds. If you simply remove what you don't want, you are left with empty space. To create something better, you need to deliberately plant something new.

The same can be true in our lives.

Lucy and Anne-Marie talk about patience, growth, pruning, creating space, finding your purpose and understanding what actually brings you joy. They explore why simply removing stress or taking things away doesn't necessarily make us happier — sometimes we need to replace them with activities, relationships and experiences that genuinely fulfil us.

They also discuss the idea of mental fitness, the importance of intentional living, understanding what your mind and body need, and why discovering your “Why” and your true identity isn't something that happens overnight.

Sometimes we need to prune. Sometimes we need to be patient. And sometimes we simply need to ask ourselves:

“What am I trying to grow?”

Join Lucy and Anne-Marie for another thought-provoking conversation on The Identity Edge.

  • The Identity Edge with Lucy Cronly and Anne Marie Beggs
    2026/09/16
The Identity Edge – Episode 1: Are You Wearing the Right Shoes?

In the first episode of The Identity Edge, Anne-Marie Beggs and Lucy Cronly explore Lucy’s book The Right Shoes and discover that it’s not really about shoes at all.

The conversation looks at identity, confidence and how we choose to show up in the world. Lucy introduces the question: “When people hear your footsteps coming, what do they hear?” Do they hear support, confidence and reassurance — or someone who needs support themselves?

Using shoes as a powerful everyday metaphor, Anne-Marie and Lucy discuss how our needs and identities change, why we sometimes hold on to things that no longer fit us, and how making intentional choices can create space for something new.

A warm, personal and thought-provoking conversation about letting go of what no longer fits and finding what feels right for who you are today.
