The Identity Edge

What can a pair of shoes, a garden, a dance floor, a paintbrush or a

suitcase tell you about who you are?

Quite a lot, as it turns out.

Welcome to The Identity Edge, a podcast with Lucy Cronly and Anne-

Marie Beggs, where we take everyday things we love fashion,

gardening, travelling, dancing, painting, creativity, singing and even

choosing the right shoes and look at them from a slightly different angle.

The best way to understand ourselves isn't to sit down and ask, “Who

am I?”

It could be:

“Why did I choose those shoes?”

“What am I growing in my garden?”

“Why am I afraid to dance?”

“Whose picture am I trying to paint?”

“Where am I actually going?”

Or even most importantly…

“Is this still the life I want to be wearing?”

Were interested in the stories hiding underneath the everyday choices

we make.

Things we try or avoid or we think we're “not good at.”

Things we did once and stopped doing or even the things we've always

wanted to do but somehow never quite got around to.

Creativity isn't just about being creative.

Gardening isn't just about gardening.

Fashion isn't just about what you wear.

Travel isn't just about where you go and singing isn't necessarily about

having a good voice!

They're all opportunities to notice ourselves our values, our beliefs, our

confidence, our fears, our curiosity, our assumptions and the choices we

make when nobody is telling us what we should do.

That's where The Identity Edge comes in.

We;re going to have some fun along the way. There will be stories,

ex'eriments, probably a few questionable artistic efforts, and the

occasional moment when one of us says, “I am not doing that!”

Underneath the fun is something quite serious, that self-awareness

matters.

When we take the time to understand ourselves better, we can make

choices more consciously and live with greater intention.

We don't believe you need to become a completely different person.

Quite the opposite we want to explore what happens when you get

curious about the person who's already there, your own unique self.

Whether you're standing in front of your wardrobe, digging in the garden,

booking a flight, picking up a paintbrush, stepping onto a dance floor or

wondering whether you still fit the life you've created...come and explore

with us.

This is The Identity Edge.

We believe finding yourself starts with something as simple as choosing

the right shoes.

  • What Can working with Clay tells us about ourselves

    • So today, we're talking about clay, and sculpture in general, and the possibilities of, when you get into clay, what it can offer you. So.
    • I mean, as a hobby, or something relaxing to do, it's very nice.
    • I've tried it on a pottery wheel a few times. I wasn't very good, but it was very enjoyable. But what I'm talking about, and I suppose, Lucy as well today, is that how we can use clay to
    • create possibilities for our future. So, it's something that I work with all the time with my students. So, with my dyslexic students, it,
    • Offers a possibility into reading.
    • So, by clearing up confusions, by making models in clay, I have one, a little one here. Now, you won't see this if you're listening to the podcast, but if you're on YouTube, you might see it. It's two little people holding hands, and the child was modeling the word width, which means in the company of.
    • And so, it's a very useful tool in the work that I do. And then for some of my older students, it gives them the opportunity, I suppose, to explore their identity, and what they can
    • achieve by working with the ball of clay. And I suppose, when we were thinking about this, this podcast, I was thinking about, well, like, what else could clay do for other people? So, if they got themselves a ball of clay, how could they use that to create,
    • possibilities for their future, so how can that be adaptable? Because I heard a saying earlier this week, because in addition to talking on podcasts, I listen to lots of podcasts, and the guy who's talking about

The Identity Edge: Singing, Identity and Finding Your Voice

Does the way we sing reflect who we are? In this episode, Lucy Cronly and Anne-Marie Beggs explore the connection between singing, identity and self-expression. They discuss how our willingness to sing, the fear of being judged and the courage to let our voices be heard can reveal so much about how we see ourselves. Singing becomes more than making music; it becomes a way to challenge our self-image, embrace vulnerability and reconnect with the person we truly are. Because finding your voice isn't just about singing a song — it's about discovering who you are and having the confidence to express it.
