The summer issue of HOME magazine is out!

This week we spoke with Chesley Vohden with Society of St. Andrew about their non-profit spotlight in Roanoke Valley HOME. Chesley shared the history of SoSA, talked about their network of growers who help harvest and share healthy food, and what the definition of “gleaning” is. She also talked about some events they have coming up along with opportunities to aid in their cause

Board Certified Entomologist with Dodson Pest Control David Moore stopped by to help us talk about the good guys in your yard as discussed in the “Garden Heroes” article in HOME magazine. First, David talked about the not-so-good-guys... the invasive spotted lanternfly! He shared tips to get rid of them and discussed their life cycle. He talked about the importance of honeybees and other pollinators and shared his disdain for yellow jackets. David also gave a shoutout to ladybugs, praying mantises, spiders, and dragonflies

Corey Argentino with Earth Right Mid-Atlantic joined The HOME Girls to talk all about solar energy. He shared the importance of diversification, why they got started in solar, and the many programs and incentives to get add solar power to your home right now. He also talked about his ongoing fight in Washington D.C. to keep solar incentives moving and what he sees for the future of solar energy in Virginia

Our spring showcase homeowner Toni Perry dropped in to share her story of living in Airbnbs when she and her husband George first moved to the Lynchburg area before finding and purchasing their cozy cottage. She talked about going through the renovation process all while undergoing cancer treatment and the importance of their faith and giving thanks to a higher power for all their blessings. We also learned the significance of the squirrels!
