The summer issue of HOME magazine is out!

This week we spoke with Chesley Vohden with Society of St. Andrew about their non-profit spotlight in Roanoke Valley HOME. Chesley shared the history of SoSA, talked about their network of growers who help harvest and share healthy food, and what the definition of “gleaning” is. She also talked about some events they have coming up along with opportunities to aid in their cause

Board Certified Entomologist with Dodson Pest Control David Moore stopped by to help us talk about the good guys in your yard as discussed in the “Garden Heroes” article in HOME magazine. First, David talked about the not-so-good-guys... the invasive spotted lanternfly! He shared tips to get rid of them and discussed their life cycle. He talked about the importance of honeybees and other pollinators and shared his disdain for yellow jackets. David also gave a shoutout to ladybugs, praying mantises, spiders, and dragonflies

We wrapped up the spring issue of HOME magazine on The HOME Show!

Corey Argentino with Earth Right Mid-Atlantic joined The HOME Girls to talk all about solar energy. He shared the importance of diversification, why they got started in solar, and the many programs and incentives to get add solar power to your home right now. He also talked about his ongoing fight in Washington D.C. to keep solar incentives moving and what he sees for the future of solar energy in Virginia

Our spring showcase homeowner Toni Perry dropped in to share her story of living in Airbnbs when she and her husband George first moved to the Lynchburg area before finding and purchasing their cozy cottage. She talked about going through the renovation process all while undergoing cancer treatment and the importance of their faith and giving thanks to a higher power for all their blessings. We also learned the significance of the squirrels!

It’s Memorial Day weekend on The HOME Show!

The HOME girls welcomed Claire LeFew, Jill Mollohan, Michelle Thomas (and, of course Winnie!) with the Lynchburg Humane Society to the studio to talk about their Premier Profile in the spring issue of HOME magazine. They talked about their capital campaign to build a new regional veterinary clinic to provide affordable vet care to pets and families in our area. They also discussed fostering through LHS, volunteer opportunities, health benefits of having a pet, and some upcoming events

Sarah Girten Saunders with Sarah Girten Interior Design and Kevin Saunders with Saunders Wall Covering dropped in to share the ins and outs of wallpapering, as discussed in the spring issue of HOME magazine. They talked about wallpaper’s comeback, the differences between types of wallpaper, and when to call a professional versus DIY. They also talked about going bold in smaller spaces and how wallpaper requires very little maintenance

This week on The HOME Show we welcomed our friends Charles Snider and Anthony Markham with Piedmont Floor Show to the studio. Anthony reminded us about what he does with cabinetry and countertops at the showroom and Charles talked about flooring products that may be better for damp or humid environments. They also talked about new technology coming to the showroom and their financing options

WB Bass with Bass Sod Farm also dropped in to talk about his Premier Profile in the spring issue of HOME magazine. He talked about the differences between the three types of sod they offer, how to measure your yard the right way and the importance of irrigation. Rich also shared a story about aerating his own sod this year

We welcomed Alicia Smith with F&S Building Innovations to the program to talk about their Premier Profile featured in this year’s Smith Mountain Lake HOME magazine. Alicia talks about the difference between working with residential and commercial customers, the importance of making your home your own, and how they help you navigate the process when you aren’t really sure what you want. She also talked about the recent uptick of renovating your garage into a bonus space

Alice Ann Clark with British Swim School joined the program to talk about their local swim classes at Randolph College. She talked about their “tried-and-true" approach to swim lessons, teaching all ages and skill levels, and the importance of smaller class sizes. She also shared some important safety tips and best practices when being near different bodies of water

Tom Cobb with Bank of the James dropped in to talk about HELOCs as discussed in the spring issue of HOME magazine. He educated us on the difference between home equity lines of credit and home loans, how the debt consolidation process works, and discussed the different products they have available. He also expressed the importance of planning ahead when working on a home project

Zach Baldridge with KKrane 3D Printing joined us to talk about Lynchburg’s first and only 3D printed home as showcased in the current issue of HOME. He talked about what led him to start with 3D printing and what the benefits are of choosing to build a home this way. He also discussed how, as far as he knows, they are the only 3D printing company working indoors which helps them avoid common setbacks in construction

They talked about using them as a jumping off point if you are trying to pull a creative vision together and how they are hosting a workshop at Curtains, Blinds & Bath on May 8th to help you get started. They also shared how they can help you at any stage of the design process from finding a place to hang art to a full home design project

Susan Creasy & Lisa Cresson with Hillside Garden Club dropped in ahead of Lynchburg’s Historic Garden Day on April 29th. They gave us an overview of the featured homes you can walk through both inside and out and the inspiration you may find inside. They also shared some tips for parking & walking and how the funds raised are used in community projects
