He specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional methods. For over 30 years, Dr. Fuhrman has shown that it is possible to achieve sustainable weight loss and reverse heart disease, diabetes, and many other illnesses using smart nutrition. In his medical practice, and through his books and television specials, he continues to bring this life-saving message to hundreds of thousands of people around the world. He coined the term Nutritarian to describe a nutrient-dense eating style — designed to prevent cancer, slow aging, and extend lifespan.Dr. Joel Fuhrman's links:websitepodcastbooksThe Juicy Bits:Health is earned; it's not luck or genetic, and drugs aren't the answer.Doctors don't have any more nutrition knowledge than your mailman!!!White flour products (like bagels) are the same as sugar/candy as far as effects on brain functions and immunity. Oils and fried foods are a leading cause of autoimmune diseases. How kids eat is directly linked to depression and every other illness. The 3 most common cancers are breast, prostate, and colon, AND THEY ARE ALMOST ENTIRELY FOOD-BASED, which means that we could wipe them out with diet. What a mother ate during pregnancy and all the years prior affects the state of her eggs and can result in abnormalities in children.Antibiotics kill gut bacteria and never let the immune defenses fight off infection, thus training the body to get more infected. The best and worst foods sit side-by-side at the store. You have a choice.Children have to take a role in making society better. We live in an insane world where it's acceptable to behave in a manner that destroys the planet so future generations are going to suffer. It's narcissistic and selfish. It's so much more expensive to live UNHEALTHFULLY when you consider healthcare costs. The American system is crazy! The medical industry and big business cultivate a sick population that thinks they can't live without ultraprocessed foods and drugs.GBOMBS - the 6 most powerful anti-cancer foods to have daily -- greens, beans/legumes, onions, mushrooms, berries, seeds/nutsHave a family meeting once per week to review family goals for health and get everyone involved.Just because all of society is doing something doesn't make it right.Nutritional excellence isn't just prevention; it's therapeutic to reverse diseases!Dr. Fuhrman's faves: raw salad, vegetable bean soup or casserole, pistachios, steamed artichoke, frozen fruit**The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for general informational purposes only. He has led teams that have investigated and rescued animals from animal-abusing facilities across the globe and has organized successful campaigns to ban fur in San Francisco and California. He served as lead counsel (and, sometimes, defendant) in five “right to rescue” trials in which activists were prosecuted after being charged for giving aid to sick and dying animals, garnering media attention from The New York Times. Fear of failure keeps people in the status quo, doing what everyone else is doing. But when you're not scared of dying, you can't be scared of anything else. The cruelty and exploitation of animals is the greatest atrocity in the history of human civilization.Spirituality is the foundation of activism.Courage always comes in small steps and it builds over time as you take more steps. Courage is a community attribute, not an individual one. "Find your voice, find some friends, and fight like hell."The animal rights movement requires finding core stories and reflecting collectively on why they matter.Story-based leadership is about using story of self, story of us, and story of now to create a strong movement. There's something powerful about one's willingness to suffer for a cause. There is immense spiritual growth that comes from suffering.Purpose is something a lot of people are lacking but it makes life worth living.ALL SENTIENT BEINGS FEEL PAIN AND YEARN FOR FAMILIES.Wayne is not a law breaker, he's a law maker.THE FOUNDING FATHERS WERE WRONG. The Constitution should include non-human animals, because they deserve life and liberty. All MEN are created equal really means that all humanity are created equal.Vivisection means cutting of the living body.ANIMALS ARE THE MOST POWERLESS BEINGS IN OUR SOCIETY. They're invisible to the legal system. We still live in a society that's ruled by the powerful. The less power you have, the more likely you'll be abused.Learn more. The closer you get to suffering, the more accurately you'll see the world, then you can work to change it.Activism is about empowering people who are already supportive.Empathy is the core of the animal rights movement.MARSHALL BIORESOURCES MARCH TO ABOLISH ANIMAL TESTINGWayne's favorite foods: pb sandwich, pasta, rice, cookies, seitan**The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for general informational purposes only. Factory Farms are the most destructive force on the planet.Going vegan is a choice stemming from going down a path of compassion. Check out the episode with Colleen Patrick-Goudreau.Compassion in World Farming is one of the largest farm animal protection organizations. They also help with food system reform and change. Our food system is broken. It is financially and nutritionally inefficient with so much of the world's seeds and grains going to feed animals instead of people.Cage-free eggs are NOT HUMANE. They cost double or triple conventional eggs when the added cost per egg is only 1-5 cents. The SAVE OUR BACON ACT would be a law stuck in the farm bill that would nullify all state laws prohibiting crates. Why oppose the SOBA: it nullifies all animal protection laws, it's bad for smaller farmers who actually believe animals should have space to move, and it takes away states' rights and overturns voter-approved laws. How you can help stop SOBA: call your US Senator at 202-224-3121, and tell the person on the phone that you oppose SOBA and do not want it included in the farm bill. The SOBA is about protecting mother pigs, but it's also chickens and veal calves that are subjected to the worst confinement on Earth. The first law to ban gestation crates was a ballot measure in the red state of Florida, where they put it in the state's constitution. The SOBA is not about banning pork -- it is simply about allowing mother pigs to stand up, turn around, and extend limbs. To what length would you go to get your pet out of suffering? If you help SOBA and the fight to end factory farming, you will change the course of history for billions! We are in a collective fight around compassion; it takes all of us everyday doing simple acts of kindness.Matt's favorite foods: anything from Chef Chloe in NYC! and nutritional yeast.**The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for general informational purposes only. We come into this world compassionate. Violence is taught. We buy organic and free-range because we believe we're good people, BUT WE DON'T WANT TO BE TOO INCONVENIENCED.It's not HOW we keep animals, IT'S THAT WE BRING THEM INTO THIS WORLD ONLY TO KILL THEM. It's a system of violence that's unchecked. Check out Gail Eisnitz's book Slaughterhouse. It's painful to become awake but the price we pay for not being awake is hardening our hearts and our awareness of truth.WHAT IS COMPASSION? It's connection and awareness that whatever I do impacts someone else. The point is not to be vegan. It's to be compassionate, and veganism is the way to get there. It's easy to say we're compassionate, but where is that manifesting in daily behavior.Change only happens when we're willing to stretch comfort zones. Many people are happy and busy and feel like they can't fit anything else in, but MANY PEOPLE ALSO FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS MISSING.Evolution is the thing because the alternative is to stay stagnant. Change happens when we inspire each other as humans. If you think vegan will be hard, that's what it'll be.The foundation of most cultures' cuisines IS PLANTS.The first step to being a joyful vegan is to orient that way.Being vegan is about saying NO to cruelty, unhealthiness, violence, habitat devastation, and slaughter, and saying YES to flavor, abundance, joy, health, wellness, and compassion.Perception shift: animal products do not have to be the center of the plate. Replace the animal with plant protein and have lots of side dishes. If you have an option to be compassionate, take it.No matter where you live, there's always something you can do to support native pollinators and wildlife.Wherever you can, START.Colleen's favorite foods: tofu, carrots, peanut butter, popcorn, blueberries, and chickpeas. **The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for generalinformational purposes only. The Juicy Bits:

    1. Being fit is great, but it's really about being healthy.
    2. We accept mediocrity as normal, even great, but having stomach aches, digestive problems, constipation, bloating, poor skin, and little sleep is not healthy.
    3. Bodybuilding is not the best habit for bodies. It's too extreme.
    4. For a woman vegan to build muscle, it takes eating enough food, getting good, regenerative sleep, and functional medicine pieces like gut health, hormonal balance, and reduced stress.
    5. Try: tracking food, mindfulness practices, setting boundaries, using a calendar, and self-care activities.
    6. CARBS FUEL HIGH PERFORMANCE ATHLETES. Carbs are good. PROTEIN IS FOR REPAIR.
    7. .8g protein per kg of body weight is standard for muscle maintenance. Add more fitness goals and aging women.
    8. Supplements are meant TO SUPPLEMENT the diet.
    9. Women should not try to live off 1200-1300 calories per day. In order to be healthy and look good, you need to eat.
    10. EAT REAL FOOD, AND LOTS OF IT. SLEEP. REDUCE STRESS.
    11. Try vegan, but do it smart. Hire a good coach.
    12. Clarissa's favorite foods: fava bean tofu, textured pea protein, fruit, potatoes, steamed vegetables, hearts of palm pasta

Eisnitz, winner of the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Medal for outstanding achievement in animal welfare, has been working for decades to document and expose the shocking underbelly of the U.S. meat industry. She is chief investigator for the Humane Farming Association and author of the new memoir, Out of Sight: An Undercover Investigator’s Fight for Animal Rights and Her Own Survival. Eisnitz and her first book, Slaughterhouse: The Shocking Story of Greed, Neglect, and Inhumane Treatment inside the U.S. Meat Industry, were the driving force behind a front-page exposé in the Washington Post that resulted in an annual multimillion dollar Congressional appropriation for enforcement of the Humane Slaughter Act—the first funding ever allocated for a law that had been on the books for more than 40 years. Eisnitz’s work has resulted in exposés by ABC’s Good Morning America, ABC’s PrimeTime Live, and Dateline NBC, has been featured in such newspapers as the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Miami Herald, Detroit Free Press, Texas Monthly, Denver Business Journal, Los Angeles Times, and U.S. News & World Report, and her interviews have been heard on more than 1600 radio stations. In her new memoir, Eisnitz takes readers on a journey of self-discovery as she successfully fights to document and expose scandalous animal abuse, all in the face of a rare visual processing disorder that she has grappled with since childhood. The disease, which was only identified in the scientific literature a mere 10 years ago—was diagnosed three years ago, after she began writing her memoir—and is revealed at the book’s climax. Eisnitz has been vegan for two decades. The Juicy Bits:When you find out what's going on with animals in the food system, you have no choice but to GO VEGAN. People are sensitive and can change. They're just usually unaware.People are unaware of what's going on in the system and don't even know the basics of animal behavior. COWS DO NOT NATURALLY PRODUCE MILK. Like humans, they lactate only after pregnancy and childbirth. And the only reason their milk is sold in stores is because their babies are stolen from them.Killing something that did not want to die is not humane. The Humane Farming Association conducts anti-cruelty investigations, helps with legislative campaigns and litigation, and saves animals. The Holocaust taught us what humans are capable of doing, and we're doing it now TO ANIMALS.55 years ago, 10 BILLION animals in the world were slaughtered each year. Now, that same number is slaughtered in the US alone. Increased line speeds and gestation crates make this possible. The American Veterinary Medical Association is in bed with the meat industry and supports the atrocities.Gail's favorite foods include vegan chili with peanuts and pineapple, and hummus with chips.Links:Humane Farming Association (HFA) website: https://hfa.orghttps://gaileisnitz.comhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61576167325070https://www.instagram.com/gaileisnitz/https://www.linkedin.com/in/gail-eisnitz-20a9889b/**The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for general informational purposes only.
