  • How Old is Too Old to Have a Baby
    2026/06/10
With women waiting to have children later in life, one of the most commonly asked questions I hear is "How Old is "Too Old" to have a Baby?" I'm excited to talk about this topic in this week's show, so you have all the #fertilityfacts you need to plan your fertility future.

Regardless of your age, it is smart to get your fertility levels checked. We now live in a world where tests that can help paint a picture of your fertility levels and diagnosis are both more accessible and affordable. It's for that reason that I recommend to anyone that thinks they may want a family someday to get their TUSHY checked.

  • DOR Decreased NOT Depleted Ovarian Reserve
    2026/06/08

when people first hear about DOR, they believe that that the "D" of DOR means "depleted" ovarian reserve. This is not true! To set the record straight, DOR means "decreased" ovarian reserve.
The other thing that happens when the word "decreased" gets mixed up for "depleted," is that many people next assume that getting a DOR diagnosis means that they will need to use donor eggs in order to get pregnant. This is also not true! With DOR, you still have eggs, you just don't have as many eggs as you once did.

In this episode, I'll be sharing more about DOR. At some point, every one with a uterus will go through it. I'll talk about when egg reserves tend to decline, what tests you can take to determine your egg reserve levels, what you can do to keep your eggs healthy, and when you might consider using donor eggs.

  • When Is It Time to See a Fertility Expert?
    2026/06/05

If you're eager to get pregnant and are wondering if it's time to see a fertility specialist, you might be right. There are a number of factors to take into account when deciding whether it's time to see a fertility specialist. Of course there are a lot more details about each of these items in the podcast episode today, but here is a sneak peek of the 6 reason that may be telling you it's time to see a fertility expert:

    1. If you're over 35: schedule an appointment if you've been trying for 6 months.

    2. If you're over 37: consider seeing a fertility specialist (and not wait before seeking professional advice) to get your TUSHY checked.

    3. If you have irregular cycles, make an appointment to see what may be causing that irregularity..

    4. Painful periods. If you think your periods are more painful than average, or you are worried about the pain you're experiencing, you may suffer from endometriosis, which can make it more difficult to get pregnant. A fertility expert can help with a diagnosis and treatment..

    5. Heavy bleeding. If your periods seem especially heavy, this may be a sign that there is something blocking your ability to get pregnant.

    6. Male factor or sperm issues. It takes an egg and a sperm to make a baby so if your male partner or sperm donor has a chronic medical problems, is drinking, smoking or partaking in drugs, or is overweight, a fertility specialist can help determine if that is playing a role.

  • What to Expect When You're Expecting with guest Heidi Murkoff
    2026/06/04

You likely already know Heidi Murkoff - she is the author of the internationally bestselling What to Expect series of pregnancy and parenting guides, which includes What to Expect When You're Expecting. (And knowing how beloved this book is, it probably comes as no surprise that this popular book has sold over 40 million copies in 42 languages). It goes without saying that I am beyond honored to have her join me today as the guest on The Egg Whisperer Show.

In this conversation, we're talking about what inspired Heidi to write the first What to Expect When You're Expecting, her community of 20 million moms, the non profit she founded that helps at-risk moms, and what's changed since the book first came out 25 years ago.

Time magazine named Heidi one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2011, and she and her husband Erik have received numerous awards for their humanitarian work, including, in June of 2022, the highest award given to civilians by the department of defense, the Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian award.

Thank you for joining me, Heidi!

  • Held Together: Infertility, Loss, and the Stories That Carry Us with Dr. Rebecca N. Thompson
    2026/06/03

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Rebecca N. Thompson: a family medicine and public health physician specializing in women's and children's health, and the author of Held Together, a deeply personal and collaborative memoir that weaves her own fertility and pregnancy complications with the stories of 21 other women navigating infertility, loss, and complex paths to building families. Becca brings a rare dual perspective to this conversation: she has lived this journey as both a physician and a patient, surviving life-threatening pregnancy complications even as she was training to care for others.

Together, we explore the raw and often unspoken emotional terrain of the fertility journey, including the shame, isolation, and identity shifts that so many of my patients experience. We talk about how storytelling and community can be profoundly healing, why healers need healing too, and how grief and hope can coexist on the path to building the family you dream of, even when that path looks nothing like you planned.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • How Dr. Thompson's own string of pregnancy losses shaped her both as a patient and as a physician
    • Why sharing personal stories about infertility and loss is one of the most powerful antidotes to shame and isolation
    • How grief and hope can coexist, and why Held Together is ultimately an empowering book
    • The way infertility reshapes identity, and how women can reclaim a sense of power and agency during reproductive challenges
    • What it means to "heal the healer"
    • How non-traditional paths to parenthood (adoption, surrogacy, fostering, and more) expand and redefine what family truly means
    • Practical guidance on finding support: from therapy and journaling to community groups and simply knowing when it's okay to sit with uncertainty

  • Using the SpermQT Test to Complete Your Path to Fertility with guest Dr. Kristin Brogaard
    2026/06/01

Today, Dr. Kristin Brogaard is joining me today to talk about the Path Fertility SpermQT test. I'm so excited to have her share about the test, because as you'll hear her say "lots of infertility goes undiagnosed because men go undiagnosed, and when men go undiagnosed, women go through procedures that will not work." (Who else wants to see this on a bumper sticker?) While sperm were long considered to be just carriers of DNA, it turns out they are a lot more complex than that! Understanding the sperm side of the equation can help anyone trying to conceive better understand what's going on, and help them figure out the best plan to get pregnant.

A few exciting highlights from our discussion:

    • Male and sperm epigenetics play a big role in getting pregnant, and having a successful live birth.
    • The SpermQT test can tell someone if their sperm is excellent, average, or poor quality. - Knowing this information can help you and your doctor determine the most efficient and appropriate next steps in your treatment or protocols.
    • Understanding the quality of the sperm can lead to better outcomes. If it is "excellent," there is an increased likelihood of IUI working, even in cases where doctors thought sperm might be the issue with getting pregnant.
    • If sperm quality is "poor," you may want to try making lifestyle changes to improve sperm quality, and retest. - Poor sperm quality often correlates with other longer term health issues for men, as sperm acts as a "canary in the coal mine." (an early warning system)

Dr. Kristin Brogaard has a PhD from Northwestern University where she developed a novel epigenetic technology that allowed for a more accurate understanding of gene expression in health and disease cells. She is now the chief scientific officer of Path Fertility, whose goal is to raise the standard in male reproductive health, starting with male infertility.

Thank you for joining us, Kristin!
