    Rodney "Hotrod" Phillips is a former member of the infamous "Low End" (Lower Southside) street organization, the Del Vikings. He discusses who the Del Vikings were and their organizational structure. He talks about the dissolution of the Del Vikings and how they were absorbed into the Black Disciples and Gangster Disciples street organizations. Mr. Phillips is currently a violence interrupter and works in Chicago with young people to help reverse some of the the suffering in the inner-city.

    Dr. Lance Williams is a professor and youth advocate who specializes in Chicago history. His research has focused much on Chicago street organizations. In this episode, Dr. Lance compares the social background and power-base of the leaders of Black street organizations and the leaders of Chicago’s political regime during the 1960s. He also discusses how Black migrants from the South impacted Chicago’s street culture, the signficance of Mayor Richard J. Daley’s ("Old Man Daley") Irish roots and affiliation to White street gangs, and many other topics. Dr William's new book can be found here:
