  • WHY I EAT BEANS FOR BREAKFAST: MENOPAUSE, ENERGY & THE ONE FOOD CHANGE THAT CHANGED MY ROUTINE (EP. 14)
    2026/08/24
What if one of the simplest changes you could make to your breakfast could completely change the way you feel throughout the day?In this episode of The One Decision Away Podcast, I’m revisiting something that has become a surprisingly important part of my daily routine: eating beans for breakfast.Yes. Beans. For breakfast. If you’ve spent any time on social media, you may have heard about BeanTok and the conversation around eating beans as part of a high-fiber diet. I originally started experimenting with beans after seeing women talk about the changes they were experiencing, and I decided to see what would happen if I made beans a consistent part of my own morning routine. What started as an experiment became something I genuinely look forward to.In this episode, I’m sharing why I continue to eat beans for breakfast, what I noticed when I made this change, and why this has become especially interesting to me as a woman navigating menopause.I talk about energy, digestion, fiber, blood sugar, gut health, inflammation, and the importance of paying attention to how your own body responds to the foods you eat.I also share what I’ve learned about soluble fiber and why I think we should be talking much more about the role fiber can play in our overall health and wellness, especially as women get older. For me, this isn’t about following another extreme diet or jumping on the latest wellness trend. It’s about finding simple things that make me feel better and that I can actually sustain. And that’s really the bigger message behind this episode.Sometimes we’re looking for a complicated answer when the next step might actually be incredibly simple. This is my personal experience and what has worked for me. It is not medical or nutritional advice, and everyone’s body is different. If you’re making significant changes to your diet or have a medical condition, talk with your healthcare professional about what’s right for you.If you’re a woman over 40 navigating menopause, changing energy levels, digestion, sleep, weight, or simply trying to figure out why your body suddenly seems to be doing things it never did before, I hope this episode gives you something to think about.Maybe your next chapter starts with a decision as simple as changing what’s on your breakfast plate. And sometimes, you really are one decision away.If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a review for The One Decision Away Podcast. • MEDICAL RECORDS, PATIENT ADVOCACY & WHY YOU NEED TO BE YOUR OWN HEALTHCARE ADVOCATE (EP. 13)
    2026/08/23

What happens when the people responsible for your healthcare don’t have the full story?

In this episode of The One Decision Away Podcast, I’m talking about something I believe every patient needs to take seriously: organizing your medical records and becoming your own healthcare advocate.

I didn’t become an expert at organizing medical records because I wanted to. I became one because I had to.

After discovering that I had been misdiagnosed with two diseases, I found myself navigating an overwhelming medical history that included 13 prescription medications, chemotherapy, and being overdosed with chemotherapy. I ultimately represented myself as my own attorney in six medical malpractice cases, which forced me to learn just how important it is to understand your medical records, ask questions, document everything, and advocate for yourself when something doesn’t feel right.

I also share more about my ongoing lipedema and lymphedema journey, as well as the heart attack scare I experienced earlier this week that resulted in me being admitted to a hospital I had been in ten years ago this very week — the same hospital where so much of my health journey began.

    The timing was wild.

After researching what I experienced, I also learned about the concept of somatic memory — the idea that the body can retain and respond to memories of trauma even when we consciously believe we have moved past them.

I also talk about the Lindsay Clancy case and why the medical issues surrounding that case have made me think so much about what can happen when patients are prescribed multiple medications without a complete understanding of their medical history, previous records, or the bigger picture.

I know what it feels like to be that patient.

And I know how frightening it can be when you realize your doctors may not have pulled all of your records, connected the dots, or done the research necessary to fully understand what is happening with you.

This episode isn’t about telling you to distrust your doctors.

It’s about reminding you that you are allowed to ask questions. You are allowed to request your medical records. You are allowed to get a second opinion. You are allowed to research your diagnosis and medications. And you are allowed to advocate for yourself.

    I often ask myself:

Why is this happening FOR me, not TO me?

And I truly believe I have been given multiple chances at this life for a reason.

If sharing my story can help even one other patient recognize the importance of keeping their records organized, asking better questions, or advocating for themselves, then every difficult part of this journey has a purpose.

I hope this episode helps you — or someone you love — today.

And as always, I’m an open book when it comes to my story. If you have a question, my doors and DMs are always open.

Important note: This episode shares my personal experiences and perspectives and is not medical or legal advice. Always speak with qualified healthcare and legal professionals about your individual circumstances.

If this episode resonates with you, share it with someone who needs to hear it.

You are your own best advocate.

And sometimes, you really are one decision away from doing something differently.
