Allen Berry and Brad Tolson, longtime local farmers and sports officials, coaches and fans tell some stories about growing up on the farm developing work ethic, teamwork, communication and problem solving skills (mixed in with some mischief!). Clips from previous podcasts with Dr. Andy Peterson (Director of Athletics at NWMSU), Mark Curp (Former World Record Holder in the Half-Marathon), Sierra Michaelis (Star basketball player at Mercer High then University of Missouri Tigers) and others illustrate the relationship of farm and small town life to sports success.   • College Football & KTTN's Fearless Forecasters Since 1969!

    KTTN's Fearless Forecasters show has been on the air since 1969. It is Missouri's longest running radio program dedicated to forecasting college football and one of the oldest in the nation. The term Fearless Forecasters is common now, but as of the program's launch in 1969 there was only a Fearless Forecaster Newspaper Columnist in North Carolina that predates that term (by just one year, 1968!) in the world of college sports! Originally broadcast on KTTN-AM, it now airs on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. on KTTN-FM 92.3 during the football season. Our panel including several forecasters from different eras of the show and it's longtime moderator, John Anthony. Hear Dr. John Holcomb, Allan Quilty, Chad Boyd and Mark Ferguson talk about college football & give some history of the panelists which originally included legendary local football and basketball coaches such as C.F. Russell and Bill Ausmus. A highlight of the show occurs midway when we unveil the first public airing of the infamous and legendary underground prank episode starring former bank sponsor Jim Cox...you will laugh out loud and remind yourself how much fun college football can be when you listen to the Fearless Forecasters!

  • Pushing The Pace: Mark Curp Runs from North Missouri's Backroads to a World Record!
    2025/08/15

    Mark Curp's story began in Polo, Missouri, (Population: 539 in 1980!). A track athlete without a track, Mark ran to a 2 mile run State Championship, then became a 7 time NCAA DII All-American and 2 time NCAA DI All-American at the University of Central Missouri (then Central Mo State University) in the 10,000 meters. He was just getting started! He turned professional in 1983 and ran to glory in 1985 with three major event wins including the Philadelphia Distance Run. In that race he broke the World Record for the Half-Marathon, a record he held for over 5 years (and held the American record for the event for 21 years!) In 1987 and 1988 he was named Road Racer of the Year by Runner's World Magazine. Running well into his 30s, Mark was an icon in the Kansas City running community and is the greatest distance runner in the history of Missouri sports. Brent Martin, News Director of KFEQ/Eagle Radio in St. Joseph, MO, joins us for this lively interview and conversation on Mark's great races in his career and his motivation to keep pushing the pace!

  • Greg Groggel Likes to Tell Stories! How a Kid Followed His Olympic Dream to Become an Emmy Winning Film Producer
    2025/08/01

    Greg Groggel had an Olympic Dream that blossomed into a career as an Emmy winning Film Producer. Currently VP Unscripted/Skydance Sports, Greg has won 5 Emmys, most recently as Producer for the Netflix hit "The Redeem Team". In this episode he shares how the story of the 2008 Olympic U.S. Men's Basketball Team winning a Gold Medal in Beijing came together! Greg tells us stories of his passionate pursuit of the Olympics including a 1996 family cross country trip to the Atlanta Olympics, a summer volunteer job driving athletes at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece for ESPN, and a year long Thomas J. Watson research fellowship traveling to six Olympic sites around the world. All these experiences led to opportunities with NBC and the Olympic Channel and later his work as a Film Producer, now with Skydance Sports. Add in his connection to Trenton, Missouri with his mother's family (the Hoffmans) and her role in expanding his world through encouragement and support of his Olympic dreams and you have a compelling and fast paced episode!

  • Flag Football Explodes on the Women's Sports Scene!
    2025/07/17

    Women's Sports are growing tremendously and different sports are jockeying for position as the next big thing following in the path of women's basketball, soccer and softball. Just this week (July 16-20) the NFL and ESPN are presenting a national Flag Football tournament highlighting both men's and women's competition and Flag Football will be included in the 2028 Olympics! North Central Missouri College in Trenton, MO is launching the first Junior College Women's Flag Football program in Missouri next spring and we talk with Athletic Director Nate Gamet and Head Coach Aulden Knight about the excitement of this sport and their dreams for flag football at NCMC. Jeff and Kris talk downtown baseball (San Diego, one of Kris' many baseball stadium trips!) and the Kansas City Current and their leadership in women's sports expansion and excitement.

    A lively discussion of the joys and pitfalls of youth sports. Coach Jeremy Esry, North Central Missouri College, Head Men's Basketball Coach, joins us to talk about his new Speed and Agility Club. This program offered through Green Hills Recreation Association launches a broader discussion on skill development vs. games and the balance required to maintain youth enthusiasm and involvement. Trenton R9 School District Superintendent Daniel Gott is in to recreate our first podcast panel as he brings perspective of an educator encouraging athletic involvement and a father of young kids exploring youth sports and finding their path. We briefly revisit our very first podcast topic, (What drew you in to sports?) with some updated perspectives and talk of past year's episodes that struck that cord and reminded us of our love of sports.
