Coach Wes Croy of the Maysville Wolverines and Coach Scott Stevens of the Trenton Bulldogs continue their look at their shared past as Coach and Player in 2005-2007 and their first upcoming game as competing coaches this week in Maysville, Missouri. Coach Croy is the 2nd winningest coach in Trenton Bulldog Football history and coached Scott Stevens when he ran for 2004 career yards and helped lead their 2007 team to an 11-1 season and a state quarterfinal appearance. Behind all the numbers and names are stories and memories and our deep dive brings up lots of memorable North Missouri players from the distant and recent past. A new website feature is the College Edition of Missouri Milestones which tracks Missouri High School athletes who go on to play NCAA and NAIA athletics. Join us for a fun conversation with Kent, a spreadsheet guy who turned that skill into a huge sports hobby and an important historical record of players and their achievements. Mel Tjeerdsma led the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats from obscurity to glory. His 17 year run as Head Football Coach produced 12 MIAA Conference Championships, 7 Division II National Title Game appearances and 3 Division II National Championships! He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame; one of at least 6 HOFs he is in. In this episode, learn about his early years in coaching high school and small college football, his arrival at Northwest and how he, his coaches and players turned a first year with no wins to a national championship in the fifth year! When Cady Pauley joined Milan Girls Basketball as a Freshman in 2018 she served notice that points (and lots of them) were going to be scored! She still holds the Missouri record for a Freshman with a 57 point performance and averaged over 27 points per game. She increased that average to 33 per game by her Senior season and finished 8th all-time in Missouri Girls Basketball with 3074 total career points! Along the way there were big games, conference and district titles. Cady joins us along with her coach from 2019 to 2022, Ched Hurley, to relive those years plus tell her story of playing Division I basketball at the University of Virginia and Missouri State University. Coach Hurley is still coaching her, this time helping her prepare to take over as Head Coach of the Milan Girls Team this winter. Matt Stewart played football for the love of the game as a walk-on at Northwestern University in the 1990s and has authored an excellent book about his experience, "The Walk-On" . Matt endured the hard work and hard path of someone who wasn't recruited at all, trying the earn respect and playing time. By persevering he became part of one of the greatest turnarounds in college football history! Under Coach Gary Barnett, the Wildcats won two Big Ten titles and fulfilled his promise to take the "Purple to Pasadena." Matt has taken those lessons and rewards from his college experience to a long successful career as a respected journalist and news reporter for Kansas City's Fox 4 Morning Show. Author, journalist and now social media advocate for those facing cancer journeys, Matt is living his life pursuing big dreams.

Also joining the podcast for the first time, Darren Schmadeke from Albion, Nebraska and longtime resident of Trenton, Missouri who walked on at Nebraska University and was a part of two national championship squads coached by the great Tom Osborne. He shares his unique journey and great stories of his walk-on experience in Lincoln.
