One stove. Dinner that nobody planned together, and yet, something is being shared.

In this episode of Sazones Lejanos, three international students navigate what it means to build a sense of home in a kitchen you share with strangers. Camila and María Alejandra (Colombia) and Sahíri Mae (Cuba) open up about loneliness, unexpected connection, and the small, everyday negotiations of cooking alongside people from completely different worlds.

Host Andrés Lozano Zamora asks a simple but unresolved question: what happens when many people cook together, but nobody truly eats together? What emerges is a portrait of belonging built not through grand gestures, but small acts: a shared recipe, an offered plate, a curiosity about someone else's food that, together, carry enormous weight.

"The food changes... because we are changing."

  • Lunch far from Home
    2026/08/26

What does it mean to cook a meal that reminds you of home, when home is thousands of miles away?

In this first episode of Sazones Lejanos, three women invite us into their kitchens, and their memories. Ana Lucia (Colombia), Yaidelines (Cuba), and Suzanne (Côte d'Ivoire) share the meals, smells, and rituals that connect them to the places they left behind, and the quiet, everyday work of rebuilding a sense of home somewhere new.

Host Andrés Lozano Zamora begins with his own failed attempt at his mother's black beans, and from there, traces what cooking really means when you're far from where you learned it: not perfection, but persistence.

"Sometimes it is a Tuesday evening. A pot on the stove."
