New research reveals how the amygdala’s fear center overrides the prefrontal cortex, shutting down rational thought. Think escaping a fire, not your grocery list. Scientists are now exploring mindfulness and cognitive training to recalibrate this response, with potential breakthroughs for anxiety and PTSD.

Vasona Technology Park in Campbell just sold for $115 million — a steep $32 million drop from its $147.3 million purchase just two years ago. The six-building complex, home to major tenants like Chargepoint and Kaiser Permanente, was acquired by a Strada Investment Group affiliate, who secured a $78 million loan to close the deal. While the market dip highlights the volatility of commercial real estate, the stable tenant lineup suggests strong long-term potential.

New brain research reveals how active focus transforms learning—your neurons fire in a coordinated network when you’re deeply engaged, not just passively absorbing info. Using real-time imaging, scientists mapped this “learning machine” across multiple brain regions, showing it’s building pathways, pruning distractions, and strengthening connections. The findings underscore why deep concentration is key for mastering complex topics—and researchers are now exploring how this neural system evolves with age and whether training can supercharge it. Learning isn’t memorization—it’s a dynamic, powerful inner process.

A federal judge has paused construction on a proposed ICE detention center near Gilroy, raising serious questions about whether converting agricultural land into a high-security facility constitutes a major change in use. California and Santa Clara County are suing, arguing the government bypassed environmental laws and failed to consult local authorities. The judge, skeptical of the government’s claims, is set to rule next week — a decision opponents hope will halt the project permanently. Concerns over hazardous materials, septic system overload, and community safety have fueled local opposition, with rallies and vocal protests showing strong resistance to the facility’s presence.
