  • What If You Are Not Here To Fix Anyone: Listening from the Heart Soul Practice
    2026/11/02

The fastest way to shut someone down is to “help” them while they’re still trying to speak. If you have ever felt the pressure to soothe, solve, or say the perfect thing, you’ll recognize what I’m unpacking here: for recovering people pleasers and codependent fixers, listening can be the hardest spiritual practice and the most healing one.

As recovering people pleasers and codependents, we can become so focused on helping, fixing, and making things more comfortable for the people around us that we forget to simply listen. We may already be thinking about what to say, how to solve the problem, or how to take away someone's discomfort before they've even finished speaking.

In this Soul Practice, I'm exploring what it means to listen from the heart. To pause, quiet our own minds, release judgment and the need for an outcome, and allow someone else to have their own experience without trying to change it.

I'll share some of what I'm learning in my own relationships and in the groups I facilitate, including how being a better listener can create more safety, deeper connection, and space for people to share what is really going on. We'll also explore how this practice extends to listening to ourselves, our intuition, our Higher Self, and the wisdom that becomes available when we get quiet enough to hear it.

What if you aren't here to fix anyone? What if one of the greatest gifts you can offer is your presence?

This is a practice I'm still learning, too. I hope you'll join me in exploring what it means to listen with more compassion, openness, and love.

  • When the World Feels Overwhelming: How to Find Inner Peace Without Looking Away
    2026/10/26

Does the world feel like a lot to hold right now? I know I’ve been feeling it. There is so much happening around us, so much uncertainty, so much that can leave us feeling worried, unsettled, or wondering how we’re supposed to find our peace in the middle of it all.

And sometimes it isn’t just the world. It’s our families, our relationships, the people we love, and the things happening in our own lives that we wish we could make better.

In this episode of the Recover Your Soul Podcast, I’m sharing something I continue to learn in my own life: the difference between caring deeply and trying to control what isn’t ours to control.

I share a recent conversation with my husband, Rich, and how I noticed an old pattern in myself wanting to jump in and make things better when he was feeling overwhelmed. It was a familiar people-pleasing, codependent response. I wanted to help him feel better, but I’m learning that sometimes the most loving thing we can do is simply listen, be present, and allow another person to have their own experience.

This is such an important part of the Recover Your Soul process. We can’t control what other people think, feel, believe, or choose. We can’t make the world unfold the way we want it to. But we can begin to let go of that exhausting effort to manage everything around us and gently bring our attention back to ourselves.

That doesn’t mean we stop caring. It doesn’t mean we look away from what’s happening or stop speaking up for what matters to us. We can take action, have opinions, make choices, and love the people around us. The invitation is to do those things from a place of connection and inner strength, rather than allowing fear to take over.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by the state of the world, struggling with family dynamics, navigating codependency, or simply feeling tired of trying to make everything okay for everyone else, I hope this conversation meets you where you are.

We don’t have to carry the whole world on our shoulders. We can learn to recognize what is ours to hold and what we can lovingly release. We can come back to this moment, reconnect with our own hearts, and find a little more peace right where we are.

And maybe, as we each practice bringing more compassion into our own lives, those small acts of love can reach further than we know.

I’m so glad we’re walking this path together. Take what resonates and leave the rest.

    With love,
    Rev. Rachel 💛

  • Healing Yourself First: Energy Work, Intuition & Healthier Relationships with Ann Bruinsma
    2026/10/19
I’m bringing this bonus episode over to the main Recover Your Soul podcast feed because this conversation feels so aligned with the heart of the work we do together. If you love this conversation and want to hear more like it, join me on Patreon or Apple Podcasts for a library of over 200 episodes to support your soul journey. https://www.patreon.com/c/RecoverYourSoulI often say the most important thing we can do for the people we love is to begin healing ourselves.Have you ever found yourself trying to fix someone you love, worrying about their choices, or losing touch with yourself while trying to keep a relationship together? If you’ve struggled with codependency, people-pleasing, or the challenge of letting go of what you cannot control, this conversation is for you.In this episode of Recover Your Soul: A Spiritual Path to a Happy and Healthy Life, I’m joined by my dear friend, spirit sister, and personal healer, Ann Bruinsma. Ann is a holistic Qigong energy healer who helps people explore energy, intuition, and their connection with themselves. We talk about Ann’s journey from a family rooted in conventional medicine and a career in the analytical world into Qigong, energy healing, and trusting her intuition. We explore what it means to follow a spiritual path when the people closest to us may not understand it, and how learning to trust ourselves can help us stop looking outside ourselves for permission or affirmation. But underneath our conversation about energy healing and intuition is a principle that sits at the heart of Recover Your Soul: our own healing is our responsibility, not someone else’s.When we love someone who is struggling, it can be so easy to become consumed by their choices, emotions, or behavior. We may try harder, explain more, rescue, worry, or believe that if we can just find the right way to help, they will change. This is especially familiar to those of us healing from codependency and people-pleasing.Ann and I explore what can happen when we begin turning that energy back toward ourselves. As we recognize old childhood patterns, learn to listen to our inner knowing, and reconnect with who we are, we may begin to show up differently in our relationships. We can love deeply without making someone else’s journey our responsibility. We also talk about Qigong, life force energy, and the ways spiritual practices can invite us to become more curious about our own healing. You don’t have to share every belief about energy work to find something meaningful in this conversation. My invitation is to stay open, notice what resonates, and allow yourself to explore what supports your own path.In This Episode, We ExploreAnn’s journey from conventional medicine and corporate life into Qigong and energy healingWhat Qigong is and how it works with breath, movement, and life force energyHow to trust your intuition when you don’t receive clear images or instant answersFollowing your spiritual path even when others don’t understand or affirm your choicesHow childhood patterns can lead to people-pleasing, self-doubt, and losing yourself in relationshipsHealing codependency by releasing the need to fix, rescue, or change othersWhy focusing on your own healing can change the way you show up with the people you loveLetting go of control while remaining connected to compassion and loveFollowing what brings you joy, curiosity, and a sense of alivenessA Recover Your Soul ReminderYou can love someone without taking responsibility for their choices. You can care deeply without abandoning yourself. And you can begin to change your relationships by changing the way you show up—not by controlling another person’s healing, but by becoming more aware, grounded, and connected to yourself. This is part of the Recover Your Soul journey: recognizing the patterns that keep us stuck, releasing what is not ours to control, and finding our way home to ourselves with more compassion and awareness. You don’t have to figure it all out today. Sometimes the next step is simply to listen to what is calling you and follow it with curiosity.Connect with Ann BruinsmaAnn offers individual energy healing sessions, Qigong movement classes, group healing, and guided meditations.Website: https://www.liveyourlight.care/You can also find Ann’s guided meditations on Insight Timer.Thank you for being here and for being part of this journey with me.
