I didn’t want to be cheap with my coaching business when I first started, so I generously spent money on experts of all sorts and hired a full time VA to do all the little things I couldn’t be bothered with.

I do believe my time is highly valuable—good mindset there—but, I only wanted to coach and that was short sighted.

I delegated too much, which cost me 3 precious things:

    1. PROFIT because my expenses were unnecessarily high

    2. TIME because I constantly had to review my VA’s work and chase them to correct mistakes

    3. KNOWLEDGE about how to run my business on my own, which was a HUGE liability.

I gave my VA lots of chances before I let them go and when I did, I was lost because I didn’t know anything about how to use the various apps.

I want to help you make strategic decisions about delegating and avoid my mistakes.

How is your money mindset, Coach?

A healthy money mindset is a make it or break it thing in coaching business success — especially when it comes to confidently asking for money from potential clients.

It’s fascinating because it doesn’t matter if a coach had a high-powered job before, how much money they earned, how many certifications or degrees they have, or even how confident they appear — I hear the same admission from coaches …

“I’m afraid to ask for money!”

I felt the same way until I made some mindset shifts. I now know how to attract clients in a non-salesy way. And also, I’ve discovered the power of investing in one’s future.

In this episode I share details about a coaching session I had with a coach where her money mindset shifted.

I’m re-publishing this topic to commemorate my 350th episode and my 7th year podcasting!

A client of mine went home for a family reunion and was relentlessly picked on for becoming a coach.

People she loves who love her said things like:

“Coaching is not a real profession. It’s a pyramid scheme—an unethical line of business.”

“You’ve gone to the dark side.”

“There are a lot of dodgy coaches out there taking advantage of people and stealing their money.”

    Brutal!

I’ve heard similar things from other coaches and experienced some of that myself. You too?

People love to poke fun at life coaches, especially. And coaching is often the butt of TV jokes.

In the last few months, I’ve heard snide comments about coaching in a few audiobooks I’ve listened to.

That’s ONE of the reasons I say:

    Don’t sell coaching session packages.

Yes, use the skill for good in your business but don’t call yourself a coach.

I realize this is controversial. How can a coach think about this dispassionately?

Let’s talk about it and I’ll share some creative personal titles coaches use that help them attract and enroll ideal clients.

In the coaching world, there’s a real issue that isn’t talked about much.

Sometimes coaching relationships can stray off course, become counter productive or even toxic.

It can feel like the client is being difficult. It’s worth looking at it dispassionately to see where your responsibility lies.

Because your client is paying you for services, they may perceive a power difference between you.

While sometimes a difficult coaching relationship is simply about fit, it can also be caused by truly innocent actions of the coach that disrupt the power balance.

As your behaviors are the only ones that you can control that’s where right action starts and ends.

Let’s dig into that and what you can do to repair a rift back to a healthy coaching relationship.

I’ll also share 4 simple steps to clear the air with clients with a little script to initiate that conversation plus a clean approach to terminate a client relationship if that’s really best.

  • 345: Can Coaches Earn More If Corporations Pay Their Coaching Fees?
    2025/07/28

Find the full transcript for this 5 minute episode at ProsperousCoach.com/345.

I meet a lot coaches who want to target leaders and even more since the pandemic.

In a recent Nail Your Niche session with one of those coaches, I asked:

Do you want corporations to pay for your clients’ coaching?

Or, do you want your clients to pay out of their own pocket?

That decision will affect so many aspects of their business.

There’s a belief out there that corporations will pay more for coaching.

    That’s only true IF:

    · You have the right kind of coaching certifications.

    · You are well networked in the corporate world.

    · You have significant leadership experience.

    · You’re good at pitching your offer to those with a budget.

    · You’re good at negotiating for what you want.

I think coaches pay a hefty price when they target corporate paid clients.

When clients are not making the investment, they are less accountable. And, when a 3rd party pays, they have a lot of expectations.

Let’s talk through the pro’s and con’s of corporate paid clients so you can make an informed decision about your business model.

Recently, I overheard a coach that I didn’t know saying that her business had been doing well and then over this summer everything came to an abrupt halt.

Prospects weren’t showing up. People stopped opening emails and no body was engaging.

Her income slowed way down, and was totally ready to give up on her business.

    And I thought to myself,

“Don’t give up! Instead accelerate and expand your efforts to attract ideal clients.”

Hearing her anxiety made me remember when I was a new coach. Here’s what I realized way down the road…

The daily pain I felt about fluctuations in my business came down to one mistake …

Taking things personally instead of responding strategically.

Let's talk about a new way to think of slow downs and plans you can make both emotionally and practically to deal with them.
