  • Ep. 83 - Cardio, Capability and You
    2026/09/22

We keep hearing that cardio needs to be harder, faster, and more efficient. But if we’re trying to build strength, health, and capability for real life, maybe starting with a walk isn’t nearly as basic as it sounds.

We get into walking, Zone 2, breathing, recovery, and why jumping straight into high-intensity intervals may not make sense for everyone. We also talk about the surprisingly long list of reasons we keep coming back to walking, especially after meals.

Eventually, intervals can have a place. But fitness has to match our current capacity, stress, and ability to recover. Are we chasing the hardest cardio when the simplest version might be the one we’ll actually keep doing?

  • Ep. 82 - Why Kids Should Play Everything
    2026/09/15

We started with a viral dad turning movement into games for his kids, and it got us thinking about what healthy athletic development actually looks like. Turns out, more variety and more fun may matter more than specializing early.

We walk through how running, jumping, climbing, swimming, throwing, strength training, and multiple sports can build a bigger movement vocabulary as kids grow. Year-round specialization may be missing the point.

Then we bring it back to us adults. Moving in different ways shouldn’t stop when childhood ends. If movement builds capable kids, why wouldn’t we keep using it to build capable adults?

  • Ep. 81 - GRAS: Pretending Safety Since 1958
    2026/09/08

We’re looking at GRAS, or “generally recognized as safe,” and honestly, the history raises questions. Companies have been able to determine certain ingredients are safe themselves, while a new FDA proposal could require more transparency.

Then we get into what the proposal actually changes, what it doesn’t, and why testing individual ingredients may not tell us much about decades of exposure. It brings us back to our usual question: why does food need to be this complicated?

Finally, we look at plastic exposure from food, cookware, cans, and storage containers. We’re not throwing everything away. We’re talking glass, stainless steel, less heat around plastic, and manageable changes. How much risk can we realistically reduce without driving ourselves crazy?
