Join us on Episode 51 of the Pastor | Scholar Podcast as we explore Paul's fascinating use of the Old Testament with Dr. Brent Belford, Faculty Associate of Pastoral Studies at Virginia Beach Theological Seminary. We discuss how Paul brings together passages of Scripture through composite quotations, how this practice relates to other writings of his time, and why it matters for understanding the New Testament. Does Paul's method of quoting the Old Testament raise questions about the inerrancy and infallibility of God's Word, or is there more to understand about how Scripture was used in the first century?

Join us on Episode 50 of the Pastor | Scholar Podcast as we sit down with Scott Bashoor, Associate Professor of Old Testament at the Virginia Beach Theological Seminary, to discuss biblical scholarship, the pastor’s responsibility to handle God’s Word carefully, and the holy longing at the heart of Psalm 84. Why did the psalmist deeply desire to be among God’s people, and what might our own desire for the church reveal about us? As Scripture declares, “My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD” (Psalm 84:2), this conversation challenges us to consider whether that same longing characterizes the church today.

Join us on Episode 49 of the Pastor | Scholar Podcast as we sit down with Dr. Gary E. Gilley, pastor, author, and theologian, to examine the growing influence of John Mark Comer, New Pietism, and the renewed emphasis on "practicing the way." As Scripture calls believers to "test everything" and hold fast to what is true, we explore why discernment is essential when popular movements reshape how Christians think about discipleship. Could something that appears deeply spiritual subtly lead believers away from the pattern of biblical discipleship?
