概要

Can't eat what you want? Jaw clicking or popping when you chew? Not sure if your wisdom teeth really need to come out?

This podcast is for people making a decision about their teeth or their jaw. And for anyone who's been told nothing can be done.

I answer the questions patients actually ask me in my office. Dental implants versus dentures. Who shouldn't get implants at all. What a clicking jaw really is, and what those exercises can and can't fix. Whether wisdom teeth need to come out when nothing hurts. What happens to your jaw bone when a missing tooth isn't replaced.

I trained as a maxillofacial surgeon in Colombia, then did it all over again in the United States. It's why I'll usually start you on the most conservative option, not the biggest one.

Dr. Juan G. Lopez, DMD, DDS. Board certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery, dental anesthesia, and implantology.

Coral Springs, Plantation, Pembroke Pines and Aventura, Florida.

That click in your jaw is not random. It means the disc inside your joint is moving out of sync with your jaw. Some clicking is harmless. Some is an early warning sign of a much bigger problem.

In this video, I'm going to break down what jaw clicking actually means, when it is dangerous, and the exact signs that tell you it is time to get checked.

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What does it mean when your jaw clicks?
Jaw clicking means the disc inside your temporomandibular joint is moving out of sync with your jaw's normal motion. It can happen without pain, but it can also signal early joint damage.

    Is jaw clicking dangerous?
Clicking alone is not always dangerous, but if it turns into pain, catching, or bone on bone grinding, it means the disc may no longer be in the right position. That requires evaluation before it gets worse.

How can you tell if you have TMJ dysfunction?
Check if you can fit three fingers into your open mouth. If you can only fit two or fewer, or you notice shiny worn spots on your front teeth, those are signs of TMJ dysfunction.

  • Wisdom Teeth Removal: When Should You Take Them Out?
    2026/10/22

📌 Book your Maxillofacial Assessment: https://www.oralfacial.com

Most parents wait until wisdom teeth hurt before doing anything. That is the biggest mistake I see every week. Pain is the last sign a wisdom tooth gives you, not the first, and by the time it shows up, the easier surgery window may already be closed.

In this video, I'm going to explain exactly when wisdom teeth should come out, why age thirteen is usually the ideal time, and what happens when families wait too long.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Wisdom Teeth Removal: When Should You Take Them Out?
0:47 The best age to remove wisdom teeth
1:27 Why recovery gets harder in your 20s
2:48 Why waiting for symptoms makes surgery worse
3:59 Cysts and tumors with no pain at all
4:48 Can you ever keep your wisdom teeth
5:27 Decay, infection, and damage to the next tooth
6:52 Wisdom teeth and braces timing
7:29 Removing the crown versus the full tooth
9:02 Why thirteen is the window that works

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What is the best age to remove wisdom teeth?
Age thirteen is usually ideal because the crown has formed but the roots have not grown in yet, making surgery simpler and recovery faster. By your 20s, the roots are fully developed and often sit against the nerve or sinus, making the procedure bigger and recovery longer.

Do wisdom teeth need to come out if they are not hurting?
Yes, in many cases. Wisdom teeth can harbor cysts, cause decay in the neighboring molar, and create infections long before any pain develops.

Can you keep your wisdom teeth instead of removing them?
If a wisdom tooth is positioned correctly and the jaw has room for it, it can sometimes be left alone. Most of the time, though, they trap food, are hard to clean, and eventually cause problems.

  • The #1 Reason You Should NOT Get Dental Implants
    2026/10/15

📌 Book your Maxillofacial Assessment: https://www.oralfacial.com

Most people who fail with dental implants never saw it coming. There is one condition that quietly ruins implants and most patients do not even know they have it. If your dentist misses this, you could lose the implant and the bone around it, leaving you worse off than before you started.

In this video, I'm going to break down the real reasons an implant can fail, including the one most people overlook, and show you what actually needs to happen before anyone places an implant in your mouth.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 The #1 Reason You Should NOT Get Dental Implants
0:57 What a dental implant actually is
1:22 Why implants fail from the bone, not the post
1:43 Gum disease most people do not know they have
2:59 Why implant failure is not a quick fix
    4:19 Radiation and implant candidacy
5:03 Heavy grinding and clenching at night
6:00 Misaligned jaws and lateral force on implants
7:46 Why being told no does not mean never
8:43 Implants versus dentures, the real comparison

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Can I get dental implants if I have gum disease? Active gum disease must be treated first because the same bacteria that destroyed your natural tooth and bone will attack the implant the same way. Once the infection is controlled, implants can often move forward safely.
Why do dental implants fail even though they cannot get cavities? Implants fail because the bone and gum tissue around them break down, not because the implant material wears out. Gum disease, grinding, radiation damage, or a misaligned bite are the most common causes of that breakdown.
Can I still get implants if I grind my teeth at night? Yes, but the grinding or clenching needs to be controlled first since implants have no ligament to absorb that pressure like a natural tooth does. Treating the bruxism protects the bone and helps the implant last.
