    On this episode of daddy’s club. I am joined by Liz Davis from Surestart in Belfast Northern Ireland. Sure Start program support parents with children aged under four years old, living in disadvantaged areas in Northern Ireland. The program can help a parent from pregnancy until their child starts school. With Sure Start's ongoing support, a child can do well at school and flourish at home. A Sure Start projects must provide: home based support for families who could benefit from Sure Start support to families and parents healthcare and advice from local healthcare professionals, including, midwives and health visitors support for good quality play, learning and childcare experiences for children both at home and together with other children in group activities. support for speech, language and communication support for all children in the community and recognising their different needs. Sure Start project might offer other services including: antenatal support and advice postnatal support, including breastfeeding classes for babies and young children such as baby massage, baby yoga and play sessions. programs for parents such as parenting courses, nutrition, nurturing, fathers groups and support for ethnic minority families support from midwives, health visitors and speech and language therapists. Each Sure Start project works with parents, statutory agencies and community-based organisations in the area, to design and provide services suitable for local people.     Its Mental health Awareness Month. what is Mental health? It's defined by the World Health Organization, as "a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.

    Mental health can affect daily living, relationships, and physical health.

    However, this link also works in the other direction. Factors in people’s lives, interpersonal connections, and physical factors can all contribute to mental health disruptions.

    Looking after mental health can preserve a person’s ability to enjoy life. Doing this involves reaching a balance between life activities, responsibilities, and efforts to achieve psychological resilience.

    Conditions such as stress, depression, and anxiety can all affect mental health and disrupt a person’s routine.

    Although the term mental health is in common use, many conditions that doctors recognize as psychological disorders have physical roots.

  • Warren Leppan Nutrition Is Everything

    On this part 2 episode I am back talking to Warren Leppan  on why nutrition is very important for anyone looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

    Nutrition has a big impact on our health, regardless of our age. Food and nutrition are how we get energy and fuel into our bodies. We need to replace nutrients in our bodies with a new supply each day. Nutrition includes fats, proteins and carbohydrates. In addition, water is an important component of good nutrition. Maintaining key vitamins and minerals are also important to maintaining good health, especially for those over 50. 

    A healthy diet should include a lot of natural foods and should consist of plenty of fruits and vegetables. Whole grains, such as whole-grain bread and brown rice, should also play a part in your diet. Protein should come from lean meats and poultry and dairy products should be low fat. 

    Good nutrition also involves avoiding certain kinds of foods, such as salt (sodium) which can lead to high blood pressure. Watching your cholesterol and fat intake is also important for good nutrition.
