  • Episode 27 -The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life
    2026/10/15
🎙️ Manga With Josh — Episode 27The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life — A Legendary Assassin, an Ordinary Life, and a Cat That Steals the ShowMost stories featuring an incredibly powerful assassin focus on revenge, dangerous missions, or taking down the next major threat. The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life takes a completely different approach. What happens when someone who spent his entire life killing people decides he's had enough and just wants to experience the ordinary things everyone else takes for granted? In this episode of Manga With Josh, I'm introducing one of the newest manhwa I've come across. The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life launched in Korea on September 2, 2026, followed by Japan on September 3, 2026. The series debuted with 20 chapters and releases new episodes every Thursday. At the time of recording, 24 chapters were available in translation, making this an easy series to catch up on over a weekend. The story follows a legendary assassin who has earned millions of dollars throughout his career. He's already wealthy enough to never work again, but that's not what he wants. Instead, he's created a bucket list of ordinary experiences he never had the opportunity to enjoy. One of those goals is something most people wouldn't think twice about: getting a regular job and earning an honest paycheck.Of course, trying to live normally when you've spent your life as a professional killer creates some ridiculous situations. Between his attempts to hold down a job, a rival assassin who complicates his retirement, and the surprisingly entertaining supporting cast, the series delivers plenty of comedy. But don't let the humor fool you. This is also a surprisingly dark manhwa that isn't afraid to explore violence, drugs, prostitution, and the consequences of its characters' pasts. And then there's the cat. Somehow, in a story about one of the deadliest assassins imaginable, the cat might actually be my favorite character.🔪 What We Talk About• The September 2026 launch of The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life• The series' alternate titles, including Wants a Quiet Life and Wants to Heal• Why a legendary assassin decides to retire and experience an ordinary life• The protagonist's bucket list and his determination to complete everything on it• Why he wants to earn money through a regular job despite already being a millionaire• His struggles with holding down a normal job• How the series mixes action, martial arts, comedy, and human drama• The rival assassin who follows him and complicates his peaceful retirement• Why the supporting characters are such an important part of the comedy• How the story shifts from lighthearted situations into unexpectedly dark territory• The mature themes involving drugs, violence, killing, and prostitution• Why the artwork and action sequences are worth paying attention to• The protagonist adopting a cat and why it became my favorite character• The emotional moments revealed through his bucket list and backstory• Why this isn't another story about an overpowered character retiring to the countryside• The everyday experiences that make his attempts at a normal life entertaining• Why 24 translated chapters make this an easy series to jump into• Who should give this manhwa a chance and who might want to skip it🐈 Why This Manhwa Stood OutWhat immediately caught my attention about The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life is how it handles the idea of retirement. We've seen plenty of stories where an incredibly powerful character walks away from fighting, moves somewhere peaceful, and tries to avoid getting involved in trouble. This series doesn't really follow that formula. The protagonist is still living in the city, staying in an ordinary apartment, and actively trying to participate in everyday society. He doesn't want to disappear from the world. He wants to experience it.That distinction makes the comedy work particularly well. Here's someone who has been paid millions to kill people, yet he's determined to experience what it's like to receive a regular paycheck. He wants to visit parks, take care of a pet, and accomplish things that would seem completely unremarkable to anyone else. There's something genuinely funny about watching someone so capable in one area of life struggle with things most people consider normal.I also really like how the series handles its supporting characters. The rival assassin adds another layer of absurdity to the situation, and the interactions between characters help keep the story entertaining even when there isn't any major action happening. Then there's the cat, which quickly became one of my favorite parts of the entire series. I'm not going to spoil why, because I think that's something readers should discover for themselves. What surprised me most, though, is how quickly the story can change direction. There are moments when you're convinced ...

  • Episode 26 - Mr. Kim Strikes It Rich With Auto-Hunting
    2026/09/24
🎙️ Manga With Josh — Episode 26Mr. Kim Strikes It Rich With Auto-Hunting— Auto-Hunting, Overpowered Workers, and the Hunter Who Became the BossHunter manhwa usually give their protagonists overwhelming strength, broken skills, or some kind of system that eventually lets them bulldoze their way through every dungeon standing in front of them. Mr. Kim Strikes It Rich With Auto-Hunting takes a different route. Yoon Hajun is a 23-year-old construction day laborer who awakens as a Hunter, but instead of becoming some unstoppable warrior, his new job is Labor Management Office Head. His ability lets him summon workers and send them into dungeons or Towers in his place. They fight, gather rewards, bring back magic crystals, and even expect wages and bonuses for the work they do. Hajun essentially becomes the boss of a supernatural workforce, and the comedy comes from watching him manage increasingly powerful employees while still trying to figure out how to make money, stay anonymous, and survive in the Hunter world without personally doing most of the hunting. This is also one of the newest series I've ever talked about on the show. The webtoon launched on September 14, 2026, and had only 21 chapters available when I recorded this episode. It is based on a completed web novel with 200 chapters across eight volumes, so while the manhwa itself is brand new, there is already a complete story behind it.🏗️ What We Talk AboutWhy the main character is called “Mr. Kim” even though his real name is Yoon HajunHajun's life as a 23-year-old construction day laborerHow the Hunter and dungeon system worksHajun's strange Labor Management Office Head classHis ability to summon workers and enable auto-huntingOrc workers showing up in hard hats with shovels, pickaxes, hammers, and construction gearWhy Hajun's workers have to be paid wages and bonusesHow the series mixes Hunter fantasy with business and employee managementHajun trying to sell magic crystals even though he isn't initially a registered HunterThe monthly boss raid that puts him on the radar of major guildsWhy he has to register as a Hunter while keeping his identity hiddenThe fact that Hajun isn't necessarily the overpowered character—his workers areSummoned characters who can clear content faster than some of the strongest Hunters in the worldCrafting, blacksmithing, and equipment salesWhy the series spends less time on traditional dungeon diving than you might expectThe comedy and management side of the storyWhy this could work both for longtime Hunter-manhwa readers and people new to the genre⚒️ Why This Manhwa Stood OutThe biggest thing that separated Mr. Kim Strikes It Rich With Auto-Hunting for me is that the overpowered fantasy doesn't really come from Hajun personally destroying everything. His strength is delegation. He gets stronger by building a better workforce, adding more capable workers, sending them into increasingly difficult content, and figuring out how to turn everything they bring back into an actual operation.I also really like how seriously the series commits to the labor-management joke. These aren't just summons that disappear after a battle. They are workers. They have wages. Hajun can give them bonuses. If he doesn't treat them properly, he can end up with unhappy employees. Even the earliest orcs show up dressed like construction workers, which fits perfectly with the fact that Hajun awakens while working as a day laborer. The crafting side also immediately grabbed me. Once the story starts introducing workers who can make equipment, the progression opens up beyond simply clearing another dungeon or climbing another floor of a Tower. Hajun can gather resources, produce equipment, sell what his workers create, and slowly turn this strange ability into something closer to a business. That mixture of Hunter systems, management, crafting, and comedy gives the series its own identity.🎧 Final ThoughtsIf you already read Hunter manhwa, a lot of the worldbuilding here is going to feel familiar. You have ranked dungeons, guilds, Towers, boss raids, magical crystals, awakened Hunters, and characters who can eventually become absurdly powerful. What makes this one fun is the way it rearranges those familiar pieces around a protagonist who would rather send somebody else into the dungeon than risk his own life. This also isn't a series where you're going to spend every chapter watching Hajun personally fight through a dungeon. A lot of the entertainment comes from his workers, the ridiculous things they can accomplish, Hajun trying to manage the consequences, and the increasingly complicated business surrounding all of it. If you're looking purely for constant one-on-one combat, that may be something to keep in mind. For me, though, that difference is exactly why it's worth checking out. The webtoon had only been out for about ten days when I recorded this episode, so we're catching this one almost from the beginning. With a ...

  • Episode 25 -The Crazy Genius Composer Returns
    2026/09/17
🎙️ Manga With Josh — Episode 25The Crazy Genius Composer Returns— Music, Family, and a Regression Story That Actually Feels DifferentRegression manhwa have become so common that it can sometimes feel like you've already seen every version of the idea. Someone dies, goes back in time, remembers everything that happened before, and suddenly has the perfect opportunity to become stronger, richer, or more powerful than everyone around them. The Crazy Genius Composer Returns uses that same basic setup, but takes it somewhere I haven't seen nearly as often: the music industry. In this episode, I'm returning to a series I've already recommended once before because I still think it deserves more attention. Also known as Genius LOUT Composer Returns, the story follows an incredibly successful composer who eventually reaches the top of the music industry but loses almost everything that actually matters along the way. His father is gone, his relationships have fallen apart, and despite all of his success, he has basically ended up alone. When he gets the chance to return to the past, he has an opportunity to rebuild more than just his career. What immediately separates the series from other regression stories is that the protagonist isn't a hunter, fighter, idol, or swordsman. He's a composer. He writes songs, creates beats, produces tracks, works inside recording studios, and obsessively chases the perfect sound. He can sing when he needs to, but the story isn't really about him becoming a celebrity performer. It's about the person behind the music and everything that goes into creating the songs everyone else eventually hears.🎵 What We Talk AboutWhy I'm recommending The Crazy Genius Composer Returns for a second timeHow the regression setup worksWhy the music-industry setting makes the series differentThe protagonist's life before returning to the pastHis relationship with his father and familyHow composing and producing replace traditional manhwa battlesThe business side of creating successful musicWhy the protagonist's obsessive personality makes him entertainingHis ridiculous flame-covered motorcycle helmet disguiseHow the series balances comedy with more emotional momentsWhy this isn't a series for readers looking for battles or romanceWhy music fans and business-manhwa readers may especially enjoy it🎼 Why This Manhwa Stood OutI've read a ridiculous number of regression manhwa over the years, and one of the biggest reasons this one continues to stand out is simply because of what the protagonist actually does. Watching someone spend hours inside a recording studio trying to perfect a track creates a completely different kind of progression than watching another character level up or defeat a stronger enemy. The protagonist is also still very much himself after returning to the past. He wants to repair his relationships and become more mindful of the people around him, but that doesn't mean his personality suddenly disappears. This is still a guy who can happily work in a recording booth for twelve or twenty hours straight and expects everyone else around him to somehow keep up. Seeing him slowly learn how to deal with people while remaining completely obsessed with music gives the story a lot of its personality. The family dynamic adds another layer that I really enjoy. His relationship with his father gives the story some genuine heart, especially because music is the protagonist's entire world while his father's hearing problems create a very different connection to that part of his life. Those moments help keep the series from becoming nothing more than a story about climbing the charts.🎧 Final ThoughtsThe Crazy Genius Composer Returns isn't trying to be an action-heavy regression story, and I think that's exactly why it works. There aren't dungeon raids, massive battles, or a romance subplot driving everything forward. The protagonist wants to make music, create hits, reach number one, and do things differently with the people he lost the first time around. The series also gives readers an entertaining look at the production and business side of the Korean music industry, even if I obviously can't tell you how perfectly accurate every part of that world is. What matters is that the setting gives the story its own identity and turns something as simple as creating a song into the main source of tension and progression. If you're interested in music, business-focused manhwa, regression stories, or just want something that feels different from the usual formula, The Crazy Genius Composer Returns is worth checking out. With around 100 manhwa chapters to read and a much longer novel available for anyone who wants to continue beyond that, there's plenty here to get into.📚 About the ShowManga With Josh is a podcast where we explore manga and manhwa ranging from classics to overlooked series, discussing storytelling, themes, characters, and the ideas that make these works memorable long after ...
