🎙️ Manga With Josh — Episode 27The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life — A Legendary Assassin, an Ordinary Life, and a Cat That Steals the ShowMost stories featuring an incredibly powerful assassin focus on revenge, dangerous missions, or taking down the next major threat. The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life takes a completely different approach. What happens when someone who spent his entire life killing people decides he's had enough and just wants to experience the ordinary things everyone else takes for granted? In this episode of Manga With Josh, I'm introducing one of the newest manhwa I've come across. The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life launched in Korea on September 2, 2026, followed by Japan on September 3, 2026. The series debuted with 20 chapters and releases new episodes every Thursday. At the time of recording, 24 chapters were available in translation, making this an easy series to catch up on over a weekend. The story follows a legendary assassin who has earned millions of dollars throughout his career. He's already wealthy enough to never work again, but that's not what he wants. Instead, he's created a bucket list of ordinary experiences he never had the opportunity to enjoy. One of those goals is something most people wouldn't think twice about: getting a regular job and earning an honest paycheck.Of course, trying to live normally when you've spent your life as a professional killer creates some ridiculous situations. Between his attempts to hold down a job, a rival assassin who complicates his retirement, and the surprisingly entertaining supporting cast, the series delivers plenty of comedy. But don't let the humor fool you. This is also a surprisingly dark manhwa that isn't afraid to explore violence, drugs, prostitution, and the consequences of its characters' pasts. And then there's the cat. Somehow, in a story about one of the deadliest assassins imaginable, the cat might actually be my favorite character.🔪 What We Talk About• The September 2026 launch of The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life• The series' alternate titles, including Wants a Quiet Life and Wants to Heal• Why a legendary assassin decides to retire and experience an ordinary life• The protagonist's bucket list and his determination to complete everything on it• Why he wants to earn money through a regular job despite already being a millionaire• His struggles with holding down a normal job• How the series mixes action, martial arts, comedy, and human drama• The rival assassin who follows him and complicates his peaceful retirement• Why the supporting characters are such an important part of the comedy• How the story shifts from lighthearted situations into unexpectedly dark territory• The mature themes involving drugs, violence, killing, and prostitution• Why the artwork and action sequences are worth paying attention to• The protagonist adopting a cat and why it became my favorite character• The emotional moments revealed through his bucket list and backstory• Why this isn't another story about an overpowered character retiring to the countryside• The everyday experiences that make his attempts at a normal life entertaining• Why 24 translated chapters make this an easy series to jump into• Who should give this manhwa a chance and who might want to skip it🐈 Why This Manhwa Stood OutWhat immediately caught my attention about The Retired Killer Just Wants a Peaceful Life is how it handles the idea of retirement. We've seen plenty of stories where an incredibly powerful character walks away from fighting, moves somewhere peaceful, and tries to avoid getting involved in trouble. This series doesn't really follow that formula. The protagonist is still living in the city, staying in an ordinary apartment, and actively trying to participate in everyday society. He doesn't want to disappear from the world. He wants to experience it.That distinction makes the comedy work particularly well. Here's someone who has been paid millions to kill people, yet he's determined to experience what it's like to receive a regular paycheck. He wants to visit parks, take care of a pet, and accomplish things that would seem completely unremarkable to anyone else. There's something genuinely funny about watching someone so capable in one area of life struggle with things most people consider normal.I also really like how the series handles its supporting characters. The rival assassin adds another layer of absurdity to the situation, and the interactions between characters help keep the story entertaining even when there isn't any major action happening. Then there's the cat, which quickly became one of my favorite parts of the entire series. I'm not going to spoil why, because I think that's something readers should discover for themselves. What surprised me most, though, is how quickly the story can change direction. There are moments when you're convinced ...
