SCP-087: Exploration III — The Final Descent

Two expeditions have already entered SCP-087.

Neither reached the bottom.

Now the Foundation sends a third subject—designated simply as D—into the endless concrete staircase with enough food, water, and equipment to remain below for twenty-four hours.

As D descends hundreds of flights beneath ground level, the stairwell begins to reveal new abnormalities.

The markers left during the previous expedition have vanished.

A bottomless hole appears inside one of the landings.

The crying child continues somewhere below, always sounding just as distant as before.

But when D finally decides she has gone far enough and attempts to return to the surface, she discovers SCP-087-1 standing directly behind her.

What follows becomes the final documented exploration of SCP-087.

Then he discovers strange damage carved into the stairwell.

And eventually, the face from the first expedition appears again.

Only this time, SCP-087-1 does something it had never done before.

It moves.

In this episode of Lost in Record, we return to SCP-087 — The Stairwell for the first documented exploration of the anomaly.

A Class-D subject, designated D-8432, is equipped with a flood lamp, recording equipment, and a direct line of communication with Foundation personnel before being ordered to descend into SCP-087.

Almost immediately, D notices something strange.

Despite the strength of his light, the darkness seems to swallow everything beyond the next few steps. Then he hears something from somewhere far below—a child crying, pleading for someone to help.

D continues downward.

Ten flights.

Twenty.

Thirty.

Fifty.

Yet the crying remains approximately the same distance away.

Then, on the fifty-first landing, his light catches something in the darkness.

A face.

No mouth. No nostrils. No pupils.

And it’s staring directly at him.
