  • Testosterone for Women in Perimenopause: What It Helps, What It Doesn’t
    2026/08/27

Testosterone for women in perimenopause is getting a lot of attention, especially for low libido, energy, muscle, motivation, and brain fog. But what does testosterone actually help, and what does the research really support?

In this episode of "Understanding Your Hormones", we're talking about one of the most misunderstood hormones in women's health: testosterone.

Women naturally produce testosterone, and it plays important roles throughout the body. But understanding what testosterone does physiologically is different from understanding what testosterone therapy has actually been proven to improve.

    We'll talk about:

    • What testosterone does in a woman's body
    • How testosterone changes with age and perimenopause
    • Why a low testosterone lab result doesn't tell the whole story
    • The relationship between testosterone and libido
    • What HSDD, or hypoactive sexual desire disorder, actually means
    • Why low libido isn't automatically caused by low testosterone
    • What the evidence says about testosterone for energy, mood, cognition, and muscle
    • When testosterone therapy may be appropriate
    • Why dosing and monitoring testosterone in women matter
    • How estrogen and other perimenopause symptoms fit into the picture

I also share my own experience with testosterone therapy, including why we started with estrogen and progesterone first, what symptoms remained, and why testosterone eventually became part of my treatment.

Testosterone isn't a male hormone. But it also isn't a cure-all for every symptom women experience in midlife.

The goal of this conversation isn't to convince you to take testosterone or avoid it. It's to help you understand the evidence, recognize the questions worth asking, and have a more informed conversation with your healthcare provider.

  • The First Hormone to Change in Perimenopause (It's Not Estrogen)
    2026/08/06

Poor sleep. Waking up at 3 AM. Anxiety that feels different. Feeling overwhelmed by things that never used to bother you. If you've been wondering why these symptoms often show up before hot flashes or irregular periods, this video is for you.

In this episode of the **Understanding Your Hormones** series, we're talking about progesterone, the first hormone that often begins to change during perimenopause. Because progesterone is closely tied to ovulation, changes in ovulation can lead to changes in sleep, mood, stress resilience, and eventually your menstrual cycle.

  • Estrogen Affects More Than You Think. Here's What's Happening in Perimenopause
    2026/07/16

If you've been dealing with brain fog, anxiety, poor sleep, stubborn belly fat, joint pain, or hot flashes and wondering how they could possibly be connected, this video is for you.

In this first episode of the **Understanding Your Hormones** series, we're taking a deep dive into estrogen and why it's so much more than a reproductive hormone. Estrogen plays a critical role in your brain, bones, muscles, metabolism, heart, skin, bladder, and nervous system. When it begins to fluctuate during perimenopause, it can affect nearly every part of your body.

    In this video you'll learn:

    • What estrogen actually does throughout the body
    • Why symptoms seem so random during perimenopause
    • Why one month feels different from the next
    • How estrogen affects brain fog, anxiety, sleep, weight gain, joint pain, and more
    • Why every woman's experience is different
    • When estrogen therapy becomes part of the conversation

This video is for educational purposes only and is not intended to provide medical advice or replace a conversation with your healthcare provider.
