  • How to Win Friends & Influence People - Book Review
    2020/10/14

*warning: this episode has the potential to drastically improve your social and mental health!*

At the end of each episode, I asks guests three questions:
    1.  A book that has shaped your life?
    2.  A healthy habit that you practice?
    3.  A treasure of truth / piece of advice?

In this episode, I answer question #1 and share with you the top 10 principles (the book has 30, and yes, they are all good) that have shaped my life after reading "How to Win Friends and Influence People":

    1. Don't criticize, condemn, or complain
    2. Give honest and sincere appreciation
    3. Become genuinely interested in other people
    4. Smile
    5. Remember that a person's name is the sweetest sound in any languge
    6. Be a good listener
    7. Make the other person feel important - and do it sincerely
    8. If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically
    9. Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view
    10. Be hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise

"How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie is a classic and I highly recommend it.  At the core, it is all about how to manage human relationships and live a happy and fulfilled life with those whom we make connections with.

Give it a listen and let me know what you think!

  • Homeschool Life: What is it REALLY like?
    2020/06/11

Let’s talk social health.  In particular, education.  I believe the future-of-education topic is having a huge impact on the health of our society, in particular the social and mental health of students, parents and teachers, especially right now, summer of 2020.  As I’ve talked with other parents, I have heard their fear and seen them struggle with the decision of determining what is best for their child in the upcoming school year.  We don’t know what school will look or feel like.

In a recent study of 2,100 participants, 40% of parents are thinking of homeschooling in the fall of 2020. If you are one of these parents, this episode is for you!

Lisa Brizuela sits down with me and shares her experience both as a high school teacher in the public school system for 10 years, and homeschooling two of her three children the past four years.  Lisa never thought she’d be a homeschool mom, but after her oldest completed TK, she made the switch.  Lisa shares her story on why she made the switch, what pre-covid homeschooling is like, and answers some questions you may have.

In this episode, you will gain understanding as to:

    • The difference between covid-19 homeschooling (that everyone was thrown into) vs. homeschooling
    • Where do you start?
    • How do you know if you are being successful?
    • How to choose curriculum to fit your child?
    • What a day of homeschool looks like?
    • Is it expensive?
    • How to maintain the social health of children?
    • What are some benefits of homeschool

  • Understanding Anxiety & Tools to Help
    2020/06/04

Mental health is one of the four pieces to what I like to call our “health pie”; comprised of physical, mental, social, and spiritual health.  Every piece of this pie is intertwined with each other.  Mental health is the least spoken about and most private to people.  But, yet it is so crucial in our daily lives and should be exercised for improvement everyday.  So, don’t exit out of this episode, everyone needs to hear this, and trust me, you will learn something new!

We will be inspired and educated from Chad Erickson, MD. Dr. Erickson has been practicing medicine for over ten years as a board certified psychiatrist.  He is passionate about keeping your mind and brain healthy and is well respected among his colleagues as a physician and leader in his specialty of mental health.

In this episode we focus on anxiety disorders, which is the most common mental illness in the United States.  Effecting over 40 million adults or nearly 20% of our population

After this episode you will learn:

    • What exactly mental health is, and clear up confusion you may have
    • Why YOU should care about it
    • How the stress and worries of life impact your entire health
    • Practices you can implement today
    • Actionable tools to utilize everyday to be a better version of YOU
    • When to know you need to seek professional help
    • And of course, we will hear some good stories along the way
