    My conversation with Dr Lufkin covers a series of lies that have impacted how doctors treat chronic metabolic illnesses. We hear about the obesity lie, and discuss what exactly is driving obesity worldwide.

    We talk about the heart disease lie, that we've been told that fat is bad, the longevity lie that ageing wear and tear is inevitable, the alzheimers lie that it is not preventable, we discuss the lie that high blood pressure can only be treated with drugs.     Today I speak with renowned psychiatrist Dr Anna Lembke, author of the terrific book and best seller Dopamine nation.

    We live in a world where we are addicted to being overstimulated and we are addicted to overconsumption of everything from food to digital experiences which is very much at odds with how our ancestors lived, given that we live in a time of abundance and they lived in times of scarcity, and the result is mental and phsyical health problems.

    In this episode we look at the chemical dopamine which facilitates habit formation and ultimately addiction.

    We learn of the pleasure pain balance and how we suffer when there is imbalance favouring either pleasure or pain.

    Discover why embracing discomfort or some degree of pain is a good thing and why too much of a good thing is bad for us.

    Expect to learn the warning signs to look out for in you or in others that suggest addiction is occurring, plus we hear of some of the steps we can take to mitigate against addictive behaviours.

    This discussion doesn't just apply to those with addictions but to people trying to break a bad habit cycle which we are all familiar with.
