Why does God describe salvation as a wedding? Pastors Jason and Daniel start in Genesis 2, where marriage is a covenant and not a contract, a union that points beyond itself to God and His people. From there, they follow the thread through Sinai, the golden calf, and some of the hardest passages in the prophets, including Ezekiel 16 and Hosea's marriage to Gomer, where God shows Himself as a jealous husband for His people because He knows they need Him. The thread lands on Jesus, the bridegroom who prepares a place for His bride, gives Himself to make her clean, and returns for the marriage supper of the Lamb. Sheep are helpless, prone to wander, and a predator's favorite prey, and Scripture says that is us. This week, we look at why God chose that picture, beginning with the qualities of the shepherd in Psalm 23 and following the thread through Moses, David, and the leaders of Israel who fed themselves instead of the flock. In Ezekiel 34, God answers their failure with a promise: "I will seek, feed, and bind up my sheep.

That promise is fulfilled in Jesus, the good shepherd of John 10, who knows His sheep by name and lays down His life for them, including sheep from other folds. We also see how Jesus gave His church under-shepherds, and we end where Scripture does, with the Lamb on the throne. This week, we follow the thread of the King, which begins with Adam's God-given call to rule and runs through whispers in Genesis and Numbers, Israel's demand for a king like the nations, and God's promise to David of an everlasting throne. We see how even the best of Israel's kings failed, and why Psalm 89 asks where the promised King could possibly be.

The answer comes through the prophets, Psalm 110, and Daniel 7: the only way to keep an everlasting promise is a King who is himself eternal. Jesus is that King, and we follow Him from Palm Sunday to the cross, the empty tomb, His reign at the Father's right hand, and His promised return.
