"It's about doing the inner work, facing the stories and patterns that are holding you back, and creating a life that truly aligns with who you are. And let's be honest, it's a journey. It's not a destination. It's not a quick fix. In my book Time to Come Home, I explore self love as an invitation to return to yourself. Think about it. How often do we seek love, validation, or belonging outside of ourselves, only to feel unfulfilled?"

"A question that I get asked quite a lot is, how do I love myself? And my answer to that is, you need to think of self love as a dish that requires a whole lot of ingredients. Learning to love yourself is like learning how to cook it. Sometimes you'll get it right and sometimes you won't. But what matters is that you keep going. So let's take a quick look at the ingredients of self love. The foundation of self love is self awareness."

"And you know, there's another misconception that stops people from fully embracing the idea of self love, which is that people think that if I start loving myself or if I ask for what I want, people may not love me, people may neglect me or leave me. And you know, this is a major misconception that keeps people stuck in habitual patterns of disregarding themselves. You see, in a genuine relationship there is no give or take."

"Now that we've talked about the building blocks, or as I call them, the ingredients of self love, it is important to understand what this self love mindset really is. See, loving yourself is about getting into a certain kind of mindset about yourself. The one that enables you to give yourself your own care, consideration, nurturance, so that you can continue to grow and develop into the healthiest, happiest version possible. It is not about placing yourself ahead of before or last."

"But what this does mean is that while as kids, we had no option but to be dependent on the world around us to feel safe, secure, and valued, we didn't have the mature filters to make choices for ourselves. But as adults, we do. We have the power to change our narratives, even the ones rooted in childhood, by cleaning up the lens with which we view our past experiences. Now, let's talk about changing this narrative. The first step, awareness."

"The way we protect our homes, we need to protect our internal and physical space as well. And boundaries enable us to do exactly that. Now, boundaries are essential because they help you to protect your energy, prioritize your needs and build healthier relationships. Without boundaries, you risk overextending yourself, feeling resentful, or worse, losing your sense of self. Here's the truth. Saying yes to everything and everyone often means saying no to yourself. And let's be real."

  • Embracing Emotions for self love

"Say to yourself, I feel sad or I feel frustrated. Naming your emotion helps you to create space to understand them without judgment. Something we all need to practice. Because when a happy emotion shows up. You know, when we are smiling, we are excited, we are full of joy. We don't contest those emotions, we don't sit and judge them. It's only when the slightly heavy, difficult ones come up, that's when our judgment comes."
