I found this great post from Art of Thinking (@Art0fThinking) with the help of Snoopy (from the Peanuts cartoon). These 6 habits of happy people are things we should all strive for. They are: Don’t Show Off, Talk Less, Learn Daily, Help Less Fortunate, Laugh More and Ignore Nonsense. Each and every one of these are things we can always strive to connect with more and more in our lives. There are many things that go with each of these as I share just a few of each. I found something that got my attention right away. It’s a post from Bob Starkey (@CoachBobStarkey) where he shares this gem from Maya Angelou: “If you're going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can't be erased.” The size or fame of your legacy I think, doesn’t really matter. The fact that you choose to live a life where you are conscious of your actions, what you do in life towards others and what kind of life you let be the example for the world to see …. That’s what matters. This is something that I have always had in the back of my mind of how my life will be remembered. Now… as I get older, it’s something I know I need to keep doing and keep getting better too. I want to just keep getting better as a human being, a husband, dad, son, brother, friend, uncle, neighbor, etc. Living a life to be proud of - that’s a great thing to go after. Thanks for listening. Got back into my book that I’m trying to read every day… it’s been a few days where I haven’t kept that promise to myself, but yesterday’s reading was BIG! The book is “Areté” by Brian Johnson and it’s all about being our best. This particular lesson was about 3 Forms of Discipline. He gets this from a guy named Phil Stutz. There is “reactive discipline” where we are triggered by something happening and we choose our form of discipline at that moment. There is also “structural discipline” which is all about our every day habits that keep us going in our choices that we make. Finally, there is “expansive discipline” which is the most challenging of the three. This is the one that really ties into the fact that we have a choice in EVERY SINGLE MOMENT of our lives. If we are looking to become our best, we need to have more moments where we say to ourselves, “bring it on” to having challenging things to deal with and grow from. It comes down to choosing to keep learning and keep growing where we can keep getting better. All three of these help make us who we are along with who we are becoming and the direction to where we are going in our lives. Great stuff!! Thanks for listening.
