In this episode, we’re joined by a special guest to unpack Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo!
Set in 1980s Nigeria this book explores love, infertility, grief, and the weight of tradition. We discuss Yejide and Akin, the societal pressures that fracture their love, and the gut-punches that left us in shambles.
To honor the book’s complexity (and give ourselves something smooth to sip on during the pain), we created a drink inspired by Yejide and Akin: an espresso martini made with Nigerian palm gin; and a rich oat milk mocktail version for those abstaining.
Naija Espresso Martini Recipe:
Shake with ice, strain into a glass, and garnish with coffee beans or cocoa powder.
Naija Cold Brew Mocktini
Shake the ingredients with ice, strain into a glass, and finish with a dusting of cinnamon or cocoa.
