  • 09 | Phil Albritton | A Conversation with a Toy Maker
    2022/09/20

Hey, thanks for stopping by the Carline Conversations podcast. My name is Jason, and in this episode, I have a conversation with my friend Phil Albritton. Phil has the job I dreamed of having as a kid, he's a toymaker. That's right. He's up there with Mattel, Fisher-Price, Geppetto, and Tom Hanks in the movie BIG. All the greats!

Phil is a husband and father of two, so he has a unique perspective of being both a toy creator and a consumer. Phil shares some wisdom about age-appropriate toys, the value of play, and how we can use play to help our kids develop life skills.

One of the most impactful things Phil mentions is how we can cultivate a sense of wonder in the hearts of our children. And I just love that idea. This is such a fun conversation, and I'm so thankful for Phil's time and insight. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. Thanks again for stopping by.

You can reach Phil at phil@powerkiddesign.com or on LinkedIn. You should also check out his podcast, The Kid Power Podcast, on all major platforms. Phil's website is https://www.powerkiddesign.com/.

  • 08 | Joey Sparks | Developing Digital Disciples
    2022/09/08

Hey thanks for stopping by the carline conversations podcast. My name is Jason. In this episode, I sit down with my good friend, Joey Sparks. Joey is a husband, father, and minister. He and his wife, Amanda, have two beautiful daughters. Joey has more than ten years of experience in graphic design and publishing.

It's no secret that the world we live in is growing more and more digital. Because of that, we as parents must teach our children how to live faithfully in a digital age. Joey and I discuss what that looks like as well as a few ways to empower our young people to be digital ambassadors for Christ. Joey offers up some social media principles that will help our kids navigate a world that can be both dangerous and full of opportunities for good. And he also talks about an upcoming book project he's working on.

I'm grateful for Joey sharing his time and insight with me, and I hope you find this conversation as helpful as I did.

If you'd like to get in touch with Joey, you can reach him at joey.sparks@gmail.com or on Facebook.

  • 07 | Jon & Coralie Richardson | Our Infertility Journey
    2022/09/01
I’m this episode, I sit down with my good friends Jon and Coralie Richardson to talk about their infertility journey. Jon is an engineer, and Coralie is a paralegal, and they have two young sons. I'm extremely grateful to Jon and Coralie for their willingness to sit down and talk about such a sensitive topic. I'm thankful for their transparency and desire to help others by sharing their experience dealing with the physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial challenges they faced in their pursuit of growing their family. This is a very real and honest conversation. Jon gives a very detailed idea of what the fertility process can look like. They each share their thoughts on how individuals and congregations can be a blessing to those walking this road and some things that, while well-intentioned, can often do more harm than good. Even if this is something you have not faced in your life, there are people near you who have. It's our hope and prayer that this conversation will be helpful.

  • 06 | Andrew Kingsley | Preparing Our Children for College
    2022/08/26

Thanks for stopping by the Carline Conversations podcast; my name is Jason. In this episode, I sit down with my good friend Andrew Kingsley to discuss how we can prepare our kids to be faithful in college. Andrew is a husband and father of 3 and has more than ten years of experience working with teenagers and college students. He is currently the campus minister for the University Church of Christ in Montgomery, AL.

Andrew and I discuss some things he thinks help equip students for the challenges of college. He shares his insight on how families and congregations can invest in their young people early on to give them the foundation of a Biblical worldview so that they know how to identify truth and grow in their faith when new ideas challenge them.

The data tells us that a large percentage of our young people walk away from God and His church during their college years. That doesn't have to be the case. Now, as much as ever, this conversation is needed.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope it's helpful.

  • 04 | The Flanagans | Postpartum Depression & Anxiety
    2022/08/11

Hey, thanks for stopping by the Carline Conversation Podcast. My name is Jason, and today I'm talking with my good friends Paddy and Melissa Flanagan. Paddy is the preaching minister for the Owens Crossroads Church of Christ, and Melissa is a graphic designer. They have two beautiful daughters.

Our topic today is a very sensitive and, unfortunately, rarely discussed topic. Paddy and Melissa are gracious enough to share with me their experience with postpartum depression and anxiety. While this topic doesn't necessarily deal with parenting our children, it's a challenge many parents face, especially new parents. While everyone's experience is unique, hearing that others have struggled through something similar can be helpful. Melissa is honest about the different emotions and pain she experienced, while Paddy gives helpful insight from the husband's perspective. I'm so grateful to both of them for their willingness to use their experience to help others who may be going through something similar.

Thank you for joining us. I hope this conversation is helpful.

  • 03 | The Gerhardts | Story Parenting Outside the Box [Country]
    2022/08/04

In this episode, I talk with Justin & Jennifer Gerhardt. The Gerhardts spent 20 years in full-time local ministry before deciding to sell their house and move with their two teenage daughters to live in all the places they've always dreamed about. All the places. So far, they've spent time in England, Croatia, France, Ireland, South Africa, and Egypt.

In 2021, they left local ministry to pursue this adventure as global nomads. At that time, Justin began what has become the wildly popular podcast, Holy Ghost stories, where he tells Bible stories "in all their weird, haunting fantastic-ness." Jennifer is a writer, speaker, teacher, and podcaster. She's written seven books, and she and Justin share a deep passion for storytelling. Together they conduct the Storied Family Workshop.

In this episode, we talk about writing and telling your family's story in the context of God's bigger story of redemption for humanity. We also chat about choosing to live a lifestyle different from those around you and how that can impact you and your kids.

We cover a lot in this episode, so let's get to it. Thanks again for stopping by. I hope our conversation is helpful.
