    Dr. Emily Bartley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Science at the University of Florida and Director of Communication and Outreach in the Pain Research & Intervention Center of Excellence (PRICE). Dr. Bartley directs the Assessment, Pain Intervention, and Resilience lab (ASPIRE) which focuses on the assessment of biological and psychosocial factors that impact chronic pain and identification of risk and protective mechanisms that affect patient response to intervention.

    Her research program is particularly focused on examining adaptive biopsychosocial processes that foster resilience in pain, with an emphasis on the development of targeted clinical interventions that promote resilience, goal-directed behavior, and positive health in adults.

    Dr Neil Basu is Professor of Musculoskeletal Medicine & Vasculitis at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He trained at both the Universities of Edinburgh and Aberdeen, as well as with us at the University of Michigan.

    His research programs are inspired by his clinical practice where he is drawn to specific areas of need expressed by his patients.

    As such, he studies the mechanisms of Central Nervous System determined behaviors in inflammatory diseases and conditions and the effectiveness of related treatments. For his excellence in the field of rheumatology, Neil received the prestigious British Society of Rheumatology Michael Mason Award for Research.

    Dr. Daniel Clauw is a Professor of Anesthesiology, Medicine (Rheumatology) and Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. He serves as Director of the Chronic Pain and Fatigue Research Center and the Co-Director of the NIH HEAL National K12 Clinical Pain Career Development Training Program. He is an internationally known expert in chronic pain, and especially the central nervous system contributions to chronic pain states, performing past or ongoing work in numerous pain conditions.

    Christin Veasley is a Co-founder and Director of the Chronic Pain Research Alliance. She has lived with chronic pain since surviving a near-fatal accident in her teens. Her health experiences led her to pursue a bachelor of science degree, time conducting neuroscience research at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Her life’s work has been to advocate for the acceleration of rigorous multidisciplinary pain research and the translation of research findings into meaningful change for people with chronic pain.

    Dr. Linda Porter directed the Office of Pain Policy and Planning at the National Institutes of Health until 2025 when the Office was abolished. She played an essential role in coordinating activities of the NIH ain Consortium and the Interagency Pain Research Coordinating Committee, an advisory committee to the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Dr. Porter co-chaired the development of the National Pain Strategy and the Federal Pain Research Strategy. She was engaged in the development and implementation of the NIH Helping to End Addiction and the Acute to Chronic Pain Signatures Program.

  • Episode 38 | Dr. Rob Edwards - THE MIND-BODY CONNECTION

    Dr. Rob Edwards is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Pain Management Center in the Department of Anesthesiology at Mass General Brigham Hospital for the Harvard Medical School. He has a PhD in Medical Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a Masters in Public Health. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Pain Psychology at Johns Hopkins, before joining the faculty there in Psychiatry.

    Dr. Edwards moved to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in 2008 where her provides clinical care at the Brigham and Williams Hospital Pain Management Center. As a researcher, he studies the neurobiological mechanisms by which psychosocial processes shape individual differences or, more commonly, he studies the bidirectional relationships between mind and body.
