Welcome to Booked Out with Bre: the podcast for virtual assistants ready to level up and founders building with team who refuse to choose between audacious ambition and a life they actually love.

I'm your host, Bre Cain, mama of three, unapologetic entrepreneur, and founder of a business built from my kitchen table and 4-year-old's bedroom with big energy and zero apologies.

I'm the founder of ICON & Lightning, a remote team agency that hand matches elite virtual assistants to founder-led businesses ... because the right team isn't an operational decision, it's a leadership identity. I'm also the founder of the VA Leadership Academy, where I've trained nearly 500 virtual assistants in the technical skills, emotional intelligence, and leadership identity it takes to become a truly strategic partner; not just a task doer.

Six years ago, I thought I had to choose. Mom or career. Present or ambitious. I went back to my 9-to-5 after my first baby and lasted three months before I realized my entire definition of success had shifted. So I bet on myself and built a business that now approaches $2M in just three years, scaled in part-time hours, alongside my kids, from home.

Here's what I know for sure: you don't have to choose.

You can have the booming business. The clients you're obsessed with. The school pickups, the slow mornings, the spontaneous yes moments. You can build a team that amplifies your vision instead of adding to your mental load. You can scale without sacrificing the life you built the business to protect.

This podcast is for the virtual assistant who's ready to stop trading hours for dollars and start leading like the strategic asset she already is. It's for the founder who's done doing it all alone and is ready to build a team that actually runs. And it's for every ambitious mama who was told to shrink ... and decided not to.

Expect candid conversations, zero corporate fluff, and the kind of real talk that makes you feel seen and activated.

  • 128. VA Spotlight: Crystal Holmes on Turning Corporate Trauma into a Thriving Virtual Assistant Agency
    2026/08/12
In this episode of Booked Out with Bre, I am so honored to introduce you to one of our amazing full-ride VA Leadership Academy scholarship winners, Crystal Holmes! Crystal has one of the most powerful stories I have ever heard, and it is a true testament to the fact that sometimes the hardest situations in our lives are actually redirections toward our highest calling. Crystal shares her raw and vulnerable journey of leaving the corporate world after a terrifying experience with a workplace stalker. That moment of "never again" led her to the virtual assistant industry, where she quickly scaled to seven clients in just six months. But Crystal’s mission didn't stop at being a solo virtual assistant—she felt a deep calling to build an agency that provides opportunities for other women, especially Black women, who are looking to escape the corporate rat race and build a life of freedom. Here is what I dive into with Crystal: How she transitioned from PR and corporate roles to landing her first virtual assistant client in just 30 days. The turning point where she realized she was "building a job" instead of a business and how she pivoted to the agency model. Her experience navigating unsupportive coaching and why it’s so important to find a community that aligns with your specific vision. How she successfully hired and trained her first team member while she was eight months pregnant. The incredible story of taking a full six-month maternity leave while her virtual assistant agency continued to thrive and grow without her. Why being a virtual assistant is about more than just income—it’s about impact, nervous system regulation, and creating a legacy for your family. Crystal is a total powerhouse, and her heart for her mission is going to leave you so inspired. If you’ve been feeling like you’re meant for something bigger in the virtual assistant industry, you do not want to miss this conversation! • 127. VA Spotlight: How Virtual Assistant Diana Luna Went From Welding to a 5K/Month Freedom Business
    2026/08/05
In this episode of Booked Out with Bre, I am so honored to introduce you to one of our incredible full-ride scholarship winners, Diana Luna! For my birthday this year, I wanted to pay it forward by offering two scholarships to the VA Leadership Academy, and out of 157 applications, Diana’s story was one that I simply couldn't ignore. Diana spent 10 years in the trades as a welder—a job she loved but one that demanded 50 to 60 hours a week. As a single mom with a son who has specific needs, that kind of rigidity just wasn't sustainable. She was even pursuing an associate degree in small business, but between student loans and the time commitment, she realized she needed a faster, more flexible pathway to income. Here is what I dive into with Diana: Her journey from the sparks of the welding shop to the digital world of the virtual assistant industry. The raw reality of trying to balance a demanding trade job, college, and motherhood on three hours of sleep. Why she decided to trade a traditional 9-to-5 mindset for the autonomy of being her own boss. How the VA Leadership Academy is giving her the "college experience" for the online business world without the student debt. Her big 5K month celebration goal: a peaceful nature vacation in a Wisconsin state park with her son. Diana’s best advice for women who have big dreams but feel weighed down by their current circumstances. Diana is the definition of a hard worker who isn't afraid to meet life's challenges head-on. If you are a business owner looking for a dedicated, brilliant, and heart-led person to join your team, you definitely want to get to know Diana. Tune in to hear how she is building her dream life one step at a time! Episode Outline: Introduction: Meet full-ride scholarship winner Diana Luna (00:02) Bre Cain’s birthday mission: Paying it forward to the virtual assistant community (00:12) The scholarship experience: Openjoy and a flow of emotions (01:14) Diana’s background: 10 years as a professional welder (02:58) The challenge of rigid schedules and the need for another income outlet (03:20) Why the online space is the best option for single parents (03:48) The transition from a small business degree to the virtual assistant world (04:35) Burnout and the sustainability of traditional school systems (05:24) Laying the foundation: Applying education to a remote career (06:10) The 5K month benchmark: A vacation to celebrate time with her son (07:42) Diana’s first impressions of the VA Leadership Academy (09:41) Diana’s advice: Pursuing dreams and the importance of consistency (10:52) How action builds confidence and motivates you to keep pushing (11:15) A call to founders: Why Diana is a powerhouse for your team (11:55) Closing remarks and how to celebrate Diana’s journey (12:21) Connect with Diana: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dianasdigitaldesk Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dianas.digital.desk Linkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/-dianaluna Website: https://dianasdigitaldesk.com/ Ways to Work with Me: Follow Me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/heyitsbrecain/ Mom X VA Free Facebook Community https://www.facebook.com/groups/momxva Apply for the VA Leadership Academy https://caincollectivellc.com/valaapplication Book a Free Dream Team Design Session (for founders building with Team) https://www.breannacain.com/iconandlightningbookacall If you enjoyed this episode, I would love it so much if you left a rating and review! • 126. High-Value Virtual Assistant Secrets: How to Sign $1K+ Monthly Packages
    2026/07/29
In this episode of Booked Out with Bre, I am diving into the juicy details of how you can stop competing for the bottom and start signing dream clients into $1,000+ monthly packages. I’m breaking down the math of why a high-value retainer is more doable than you think—hint: at $40 an hour, that’s only six hours of work a week! I share my perspective on why calling yourself just a "Virtual Assistant" might actually be holding you back and how to create a "Category of One" by finding your unique intersections. We talk about shifting from a "task" mindset to a "CEO" identity and why your personal brand—quarks and all—is your biggest magnet for abundance. Here is what I cover in this episode: The simple math that proves high-value packages require less time and create more freedom. Why specialization is the key to escaping the race to the bottom in the virtual assistant industry. The "Intersection" strategy: How to combine your past career skills with your passions to create a unique offer. How to build a visible brand that speaks for you, rather than just a static portfolio. Success hacks for building "Proof of Concept" even if you have zero experience as a virtual assistant. A live workshop where we transform a general admin role into a signature financial money-management system. A first look at my brand new tech platform, Hey Vava, designed to help you find clients and build your business in your pocket. If you are ready to own your expertise and start charging what you are worth, this episode is your roadmap to 5K months and beyond. Let’s get you paid, honey!
