• Pupchella, German Car Day & Best Brewery in Redmond
    2026/05/14
Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!📰 Pupchella Is Turning Redmond Town Center Into a Giant Dog FestivalOkay, so this thing has officially crossed the line from "cute pet event" into full-on Redmond spectacle territory. Pupchella takes over Redmond Town Center on Sunday, May 17 from 11am to 5pm with live music, local pet vendors, dog treats, giveaways, photo stations, and what sounds like an alarming concentration of golden retrievers wearing bandanas. They're also doing a "Bark Like a Rock Star" costume contest where dogs dress as musicians and walk a runway for prizes, which honestly feels destined to flood local Instagram feeds by about 2pm. The whole event is free, dogs need to stay leashed, and there are even hotel staycation deals tied into the weekend.🎨 Exotics at Redmond Town Center Is Back for German Car DayThe giant Saturday morning car meetup at Redmond Town Center is back again on May 16 from 9 to 11am, and this week they're doing German Car Day. So expect a ton of Porsche, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes stuff parked all over the center court area. Even if you're not a hardcore car person, it's honestly fun just walking around looking at the weird rare stuff people bring out. This thing pulls a huge crowd every week once the weather gets nice. Good move if you've got kids who are into cars or just need an excuse to grab coffee and wander around outside.🎵 Eastside Symphony Is Doing Opera, Mozart, and a Full Gaelic SymphonyIf you want something quieter than staring at Lamborghinis all morning, the Eastside Symphony is playing Saturday night, May 16 at 7:30pm at the Redmond Performing Arts Center. They're doing Amy Beach's Gaelic Symphony plus selections from Bizet, Mozart, Verdi, and Rimsky-Korsakov. So basically a pretty stacked lineup if you're into orchestral music or opera stuff. Tickets are available online, and the venue's easy to get in and out of compared to Seattle concert halls. Might be a good date night option if you want something low-key that doesn't involve fighting downtown traffic.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Redmond Library Is Teaching Kids How to Code in PythonThe Redmond Library has a coding workshop Saturday, May 16 from 11:30am to 1pm for kids ages 9 to 13, and this one's actually beginner-friendly. They're calling it Demystify Coding, and the idea is each session walks kids through building a small Python project without assuming they've coded before. Kids should bring a laptop or device if they can, though the library has a limited number available too. If your kid's curious about programming but gets overwhelmed by giant online classes, this feels way more approachable. Registration's probably smart since these library STEM events fill up fast.📰 Dance Seattle Dance Takes Over Kirkland This SaturdayOkay, so if you've got kids who dance, know somebody who dances, or just want something different to do this weekend, this thing is huge. Dance Seattle Dance runs Saturday, May 16 from noon to 9pm at Juanita High School in Kirkland, and they're packing the place with performances, food vendors, shopping booths, mehendi, and basically an all-day cultural festival around the competition itself. Admission is free, but you do need to register online ahead of time. They're also doing North and South Indian food, sweets, and a bunch of local vendors. Probably worth showing up hungry.🌮 La Tia Angelina Food TruckIn a world full of chain restaurants and corporate food, La Tia Angelina stands out as the real deal. Bryan and Amelia have been running this food truck for five years, using recipes from Bryan's parents, Angelina and Miguel, who brought them over from Jalisco, Mexico. Angelina still makes the salsas and sauces by hand. That's three generations of family in every single thing they serve. It's literally just Bryan and Amelia running the whole operation, with their five kids pitching in when they can. You'll find them parked behind the bus stop near the QFC in Bellevue, right next to the Tikka Masala restaurant. This message brought to you by La Tia Angelina Food Truck🕰️ Redmond History MinuteOkay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.Redmond's longest-serving mayor, Bill Brown, served for 30 years (1919–1949). What was his motto?A) "Redmond First, Always" B) "All Roads Lead to Redmond" C) "Keep Redmond Growing" D) "Brown Gets It Done"Answer revealed at the bottom of this newsletter.🔮 Redmond Rumor MillSo here's the latest thing floating around downtown Redmond right now. We've heard from a couple different people that somebody's planning a "neighborhood larder" somewhere on Cleveland Street. Supposedly the idea is part bakery, part wine shop, part prepared-meals counter for people grabbing dinner on the way home from Microsoft. Think fresh pasta, ...

  • Pupchella Weekend, Puzzle Swaps & a Redmond Korean BBQ Rumor
    2026/05/12
Best of Redmond — May 12, 2026🚨 Redmond Police Are Warning About Vehicle Prowls Okay, quick heads up if you park at trailheads, apartment lots, gyms, or shopping centers around Redmond. Redmond Police say they've seen a recent spike in vehicle prowls, and they're asking people to stop leaving backpacks, laptops, chargers, purses, and other stuff visible inside parked cars. Apparently a lot of these break-ins are happening fast, sometimes in broad daylight, and mostly when thieves can immediately spot something worth grabbing. Nothing groundbreaking here, but it's probably worth doing the annoying extra step of tossing things in the trunk before you head inside somewhere.📚 Free English Classes at the Redmond Library If you've got friends, neighbors, parents, or coworkers trying to improve their English skills, the Redmond Library is doing free English Language Learners classes every Wednesday from 5 to 6 PM through June 10. These are drop-in classes taught by an experienced instructor, so people don't need to register ahead of time or commit to the whole series. They cover reading, writing, grammar, and conversation practice, and it's all happening at the Redmond Library meeting room. Space is limited, though, so showing up a little early probably isn't a bad idea if someone plans to go regularly.🪩 Disco Dodgeball at the Redmond Community Center This honestly sounds like somebody combined PE class with a wedding DJ and somehow made it work. The Redmond Senior & Community Center is hosting a Disco Dodgeball tournament Friday, May 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM, and teams of 6 to 10 people can sign up to compete under disco lights while music blasts in the background. They're doing round-robin games, playoff brackets, snacks, photo booths, and even a best dressed award for people who fully commit to the ridiculousness. You don't need to actually be good at dodgeball either. This feels way more about showing up with friends and laughing at each other.🚲 Bike Everywhere Day on the Eastrail If you bike to work, bike for fun, or just want free coffee before work, Eastrail Partners is doing a Bike Everywhere Day stop Wednesday morning at Feriton Spur Park in Redmond. They'll have coffee, treats, swag, and City of Kirkland staff hanging out along the trail talking with commuters and riders heading through the area. It's one of those quick stop-in community things that's easy to miss unless somebody tells you about it ahead of time. If your morning route already runs near the Eastrail, this is probably worth building an extra five minutes into your commute for.🧩 Monthly Puzzle Swap at Uncle's Games Here's a weirdly wholesome thing happening Sunday afternoon at Uncle's Games in Redmond Town Center. They're hosting their monthly Puzzle Swap from 1:30 to 5:30 PM, where people bring completed puzzles and trade them for different ones from the community collection. So instead of buying a brand new puzzle every time somebody in your house gets obsessed with one for two days straight, you can just keep rotating through new ones basically for free. It's low-key, super casual, and honestly sounds like the kind of thing puzzle people get VERY excited about once they discover it exists.🐾 Pre-Pupchella BBQ at Aloft Redmond If your dog hears the words "BBQ" and immediately loses their mind, this one's probably for them. Aloft Seattle Redmond is hosting Pre-Pupchella: Bones, Brew + BBQ on Saturday, May 16 from 3 to 5 PM at The Backyard and W XYZ Bar, and they're doing free BBQ snacks for both humans and dogs, plus live music, drinks, and adoptable pups from Motley Zoo Animal Rescue. Beer, wine, and cocktails will be available for purchase, and apparently this is basically the kickoff event for the bigger Pupchella festival happening Sunday at Redmond Town Center. Just keep your dog leashed, vaccinated, and reasonably chill around other dogs.🎨 Recycled Dreams at Together Center There's a free art exhibit running through May 30 at Together Center, 16305 NE 87th St Suite 110, Redmond, WA 98052, called Recycled Dreams, and the whole thing is built around artwork made from reused and discarded materials. Local artists took old, broken, forgotten stuff and turned it into sculptures, mixed-media pieces, and installations that actually look pretty cool from the previews they've posted. The exhibit was put together with VALA Eastside and focuses a lot on sustainability without feeling preachy about it. Good option if you want something quiet and different for an hour without spending money.🔮 Redmond Rumor Mill Okay, so here's the latest thing floating around Redmond restaurant circles. Word is a Korean BBQ spot with individual tabletop grills is looking at space somewhere near Redmond Town Center. Apparently there's already a Bellevue location doing pretty well, and people are saying the company has been scouting the Eastside for another spot sometime in late 2026. Now... we don't know if this is actually signed, ...

  • Filipino Bakery Rumors, Hot Car Warnings & Best Food Trucks in Redmond
    2026/05/07
Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!📰 Hot Cars Become a Real Problem Fast This WeekWith temperatures climbing into the 70s this week, Redmond Police are already getting calls about pets left in hot cars. Even with cracked windows or water bowls, they said cars heat up way faster than most people think. Their advice is simple: leave pets at home if you're running errands. If you see a dog stuck in a hot car, they want people to write down the plate number, try to locate the owner nearby, and call 911 if needed. Also... same goes for kids. Redmond Police said never leave children in the car, even “for a quick second.”📚 Redmond Library Book Group Meets Thursday AfternoonThe Redmond Library Book Group meets Thursday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., and honestly this sounds less like homework and more like a bunch of smart people hanging out talking about books. They’re meeting at the Redmond Library in Meeting Room 1, and you can also join online if you'd rather stay home. The group's open to adults of all ages, and you definitely don’t need to be some hardcore literary critic to show up. If you're trying to meet people in Redmond without doing another networking event... this is probably the calmer version of that.🎲 Bingo Night Raises Money for The Sophia WayThere’s a fundraiser bingo night happening at the Redmond Senior & Community Center, and it actually sounds pretty fun. They’re doing bingo, prizes, food, drinks, and all the money raised goes to The Sophia Way, which helps women experiencing homelessness across the Eastside. The event happens at 8703 160th Ave NE in Redmond, and they’re encouraging people to bring friends and make a night out of it. You’ll get the normal bingo chaos plus a good reason to spend money on extra cards. Not a bad combo honestly.🎤 Open Mic Night at Pint & PiePint & Pie is doing another live open mic night Thursday evening, and these things always end up more entertaining than you'd expect. Signups happen at 6:00 p.m. with a blind drawing for performance slots, then the show starts at 6:30. So you might get a legit singer-songwriter... or somebody trying standup comedy for the first time in their life. Either way, it’s usually a good crowd. They’ve got beer, pizza, and enough randomness to make the night interesting. If you’ve been saying you should “get out more,” this is probably easier than committing to a whole concert.⚽ Redmond Starts Getting Ready for the World CupOkay, so Redmond is officially starting to think ahead about what the 2026 World Cup is going to look like around here. The city is hosting a free “Let’s Get Match Ready” strategy session at Redmond City Hall from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. They’re talking transportation, watch parties, visitor traffic, and how local businesses should prepare once Seattle starts filling up with soccer fans. Even cooler, Sounders legends Brad Evans and James Riley are showing up to talk about the matches and teams coming through the area. If you own a business or just want to know how chaotic summer might get... probably worth attending.🕰️ Redmond History MinuteOkay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.Redmond is called the “Bicycle Capital of the Northwest” partly because it has Washington state's only:A) Bike museum B) Velodrome C) Bicycle factory D) Bike-only highwayAnswer revealed at the bottom of this newsletter.🔮 Redmond Rumor MillOkay... this one could get dangerous for your wallet.Word is a Filipino bakery and café concept that’s apparently doing huge business down in South Seattle has been looking at possible Eastside expansion spots, and Redmond’s been mentioned. We don’t know the name yet, we don’t know if it’s serious, and we definitely don’t know where it'd go if it happens. But honestly? A legit Filipino bakery somewhere around downtown Redmond or Overlake would probably do ridiculously well. The question is whether Redmond’s actually in the running... or if Bellevue swoops in and steals it first. If you've got a guess or have heard something, head to our Facebook page at facebook.com/BestOfRedmond and drop it in the "Redmond Rumor Mill Guesses" post.🗳️ Your Picks: Best Food Truck in RedmondAlright, that's it for this week.Head on over to facebook.com/BestOfRedmond, find the post called "Your Picks," and drop your vote in the comments. This is a peer-led group where you can show up, work on your writing, and get feedback from other people doing the same thing. It’s open to all genres and skill levels, so you don’t need to be polished or published to join. Bring something you’re working on or just come to write… either way, you’ll get an hour of focused time. 🕰️ Redmond History Minute Okay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.Kirkland was supposed to be the "Pittsburgh of the West." Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening inRedmond for the next seven days!📰 Speed Cameras Go Live Near Redmond SchoolsStarting this week, new speed cameras are going live in school zones across Redmond, and they’re actually enforcing it. The cameras are placed near several schools and are designed to catch drivers going over the posted speed during active school hours. If you get flagged, the ticket is issued automatically, so there’s no warning stop or second chance. The goal is simple: slow traffic down where kids are walking. If you drive through school zones regularly, it’s worth paying closer attention starting now.🎉 Cinco de Mayo at Downtown ParkCinco de Mayo is happening Sunday, May 3 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Redmond Downtown Park, and this one’s going to be busy. Centro Cultural Mexican is putting it on with live music, food vendors, beer, and a full Latino arts and crafts market. If you’re going, plan ahead for parking… it fills up fast.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Meet the Goats at Farrel-McWhirter ParkThere’s a farm animal talk happening Sunday, May 3 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Farrel-McWhirter Park barnyard, and this one’s all about the goats. Volunteers and docents will be there sharing facts about the animals and answering whatever questions kids come up with. If you’ve been meaning to get a good photo anyway, this is easy.🛍️ Spring Craft Fair at The Lucky PenThere’s a spring craft fair happening Sunday, May 3 at 10:00 AM at The Lucky Pen on 166th Ave NE, and it’s one of those local events that people keep coming back to. Expect handmade goods, local vendors, and a solid mix of gift ideas right before Mother’s Day. It’s been around long enough that it feels familiar, and you’ll probably run into someone you know while you’re there. If you want something more thoughtful than a last-minute store run, this is a good place to start.🎨 Apply to Paint a Mural in Downtown RedmondIf you’re an artist, or know someone who is, the City of Redmond is taking applications right now for the Downtown Redmond Art Walk mural program. Selected artists will get to paint one side of an 8-by-8 foot mural box that’ll be installed at Downtown Park during the fall event. Applications are open through May 24, so there’s still time to put something together and submit. It’s a pretty cool chance to get your work seen right in the middle of downtown. It’s a pretty easy, low-key way to support local without committing your whole day. Get there earlier if you want first pick.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The “Talk” About Teeth at Redmond Library Okay, quick question… have you had that uncomfortable talk with your kids yet? You know the one. The one that’s a little awkward… mostly because you’re not totally sure you have all the answers either. Yeah… not that one. We’re talking about brushing teeth. There’s this event at the Redmond Library on Saturday, May 2 at 3:00 pm that basically handles it for you. Show up a little early if you want a good table.📚 Local Authors in Conversation at Brick & Mortar There’s an author event happening at Brick & Mortar Books on Tuesday, April 28 at 6:30 pm, featuring Alexandra Oliva and Laurie Frankel. They’re both local, and this is part book launch, part live conversation about writing and storytelling. • Robot Servers in Redmond? + Earth Day Movie Night & Best Diner
    2026/04/23
Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!📰 Earth Day Family Movie Night (Tonight) Tonight, Thursday, April 23 from 5:30 to 7:30pm, the Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village is hosting a free Earth Day movie night for families. They’re setting up a casual, all-ages movie with popcorn, so it’s an easy “show up and hang out” kind of thing. Kids need to be with an adult, but otherwise there’s nothing complicated about it. If you’re looking for something simple to do tonight that doesn’t cost anything, this is about as easy as it gets.🎵 Live Music at SoulFood Coffee House Friday, April 24 from 6:00 to 8:00pm, SoulFood Coffee House has live music with a band called Paper Moon. Yeah, we don’t have a genre breakdown here, but honestly that’s kind of the point with SoulFood. You go for the low-key vibe, grab a drink, and see what happens. It’s one of those easy nights where you don’t need a full plan. If you want something chill after work that isn’t a big production, this fits.🎭 Last Chance to See Kodachrome This Weekend Kodachrome runs Friday through Sunday, April 24 to 26 at SecondStory Repertory, and this is literally the only weekend to catch it. Shows are Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm, with tickets around $25. It’s a small-town story about love, relationships, and how people change over time, told through a local photographer’s lens. If you’ve been meaning to see something at SecondStory, this is your window.🎤 Stand-Up Comedy Night at Samā Cellars Friday, April 24 at 7:00pm, Samā Cellars is hosting a stand-up comedy night with Jaci Terjeson and Ricci Armani. Doors open at 6:30pm, so you’ve got time to grab a glass of wine before the show starts. One of the comics has opened for SNL’s Tim Meadows, so it’s not just an open mic situation. It’s a smaller, more intimate setup compared to big comedy clubs, which usually makes for a better night anyway. If you want something different than the usual dinner plans, this is a solid switch-up.🚗 Exotics Car Show at Redmond Town Center Saturday, April 25 from 9:00 to 11:00am, the Exotics Car Show is back at Redmond Town Center with a lineup of rare and high-end cars.
