• A Recovery Gym Near the Trail? & Best Outdoor Dining in Redmond
    2026/07/16
Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!🚔 City Responds to Resident ComplaintsRedmond police recently wrapped up a months-long investigation into a massage business after neighbors reported suspected illegal activity. Investigators worked with regional law enforcement, served search warrants, made arrests, and the business closed. We don't usually spend much time on crime here, but this one matters for a simple reason: people spoke up, and the city followed through. If something around your neighborhood genuinely feels off, use the proper reporting channels instead of assuming someone else will handle it. In this case, those reports clearly made a difference.⚽ Marymoor Becomes Redmond's Soccer HeadquartersMarymoor Park turns into Redmond's soccer headquarters on Sunday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a giant championship watch party. The match will play on a huge outdoor screen, with Redmond High's marching band, Rhythms of India, DJ Charma, Sounders guests, family activities, food trucks, beer, and wine around the park. Parking will be tight, so biking or taking the 2 Line to Marymoor Village is probably the easier move. Bring a blanket, sunscreen, and enough time to enjoy more than just the game.🎵 Free Live Music at SoulFood CoffeehouseHighersElves brings a mellow folk set to SoulFood Coffeehouse on Wednesday, July 15, starting at 5 p.m. The duo leans into acoustic melodies, close harmonies, and the kind of outdoorsy sound that fits an easy summer evening. The show is free, and SoulFood is one of those places where people actually settle in instead of grabbing coffee and leaving. Get there a little early if you want a decent seat, order something before the music starts, and plan on hanging out for a while. This one's simple, local, and easy.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Lavender Festival Returns to WoodinvilleJB Family Growers opens its Lavender Festival on Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Woodinville. Vendor booths run until 5 p.m., with local makers, food, lavender products, and plenty of room to wander the fields. Even if lavender usually isn't your thing, the rows are great for photos and the farm gives kids space to explore without everything feeling overly programmed. Go earlier in the day for cooler weather, easier parking, and fewer people between you and the best photo spots.🚲 Bicycle BlingRedmond's Pedal Forward Eastside rebate program gave qualifying residents up to $2,000 toward a new e-bike, with other households eligible for $500. The application window is closed now, but the bigger story is where the city is heading. Between better trail access, more bike infrastructure, and programs that make e-bikes less expensive, cycling keeps becoming a more realistic option for commuting around the Eastside. Keep an eye on future city announcements, because incentives like this tend to get attention fast and any next round could fill up quickly.🧘 Stress Less at the Redmond LibraryRedmond Library is hosting Stress Less: Yoga for Calming Anxiety on Friday, July 17, from 4 to 5 p.m. for teens who could use a real break from school, sports, jobs, social media, and everything else piling up. The free hour includes gentle yoga, breathing exercises, and simple mindfulness tools, with no yoga experience required. This isn't about perfect poses. It's about giving teens a few practical ways to slow down when their brains won't cooperate. Registration is smart, and comfortable clothes are probably the only thing they need.🐾 Seattle Humane's Ice Cream Social ReturnsSeattle Humane's Ice Cream Social takes over Marymoor Park on Saturday, July 18, from noon to 2 p.m. for dogs, their people, and anyone who thinks free ice cream is a reasonable weekend plan. There'll be open space for pups, trainers to answer questions, games, prizes, giveaways, and treats for the humans too. Your dog does not need to be social-media ready or perfectly behaved. Sniffing every tree is completely acceptable. RSVP ahead so organizers know you're coming, then bring water, waste bags, and a leash for an easy afternoon outside.🎼 Shakespeare Meets a Live OrchestraAll the World's a Song brings Shakespeare and a live orchestra together at the Redmond Performing Arts Center on Saturday, July 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. Actors perform scenes from the plays while the orchestra handles the big emotional moments, so it lands somewhere between a concert and a stage show. You don't need to remember anything from high school English to follow it. Tickets range from free to $12, which is unusually reasonable for a live performance like this. Check availability before you go, because the cheaper seats may disappear first.🕰️ Redmond History MinuteOkay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.What...

    2026/07/14
🐴 The Horses Helping Redmond FamiliesSome of the best things happening in Redmond aren't new restaurants or big events. They're places quietly changing lives every single day. Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center has been doing exactly that for decades, helping children and adults with disabilities build confidence, strength, and independence through adaptive horseback riding and equine-assisted services. A recent Seattle's Child feature shines a spotlight on the incredible work happening right here in our community. If you've never visited Little Bit, this is one of those Redmond organizations that's worth knowing about because it's making a real difference for local families every day.🎬 Movies at Marymoor Returns With Mamma MiaIf you've been waiting for movie nights at Marymoor Park, they're back. It's one of those classic Redmond summer nights that's easy to make a family outing or a date night.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 World Cup Watch Party Takes Over Redmond Town CenterIf you're looking for somewhere to watch the World Cup on Saturday, July 18, Redmond Town Center is turning center court into a giant watch party. The fun starts at 12:30 and goes to about 4pm with local DJs, kids' activities, virtual reality soccer, games, giveaways, and a huge screen for the match. Even if you're not a hardcore soccer fan, there's enough going on to keep the whole family entertained. Head to Redmond Town Center early if you want a good spot because these community watch parties tend to fill up once the pregame festivities get rolling.🌸 Flower Bar, Flights & FashionHere's a fun one for Thursday, July 16. The businesses along Leary Way are teaming up for a neighborhood block party centered around Palmers East. They're setting up a flower bar, serving specialty cocktail flights, and bringing in Styled With Claire and Woodpecker Flooring for a shopping and community event that feels more like a summer get-together than a typical happy hour. It starts at 4:00 p.m., so you can swing by after work, build your own bouquet, grab a drink, and check out what the neighborhood businesses have been putting together.🎨 Turn Your Memories Into a Comic BookIf you've got an older kid who's always doodling or dreaming up stories, the Redmond Library has a free Memoir Comics Workshop on Thursday, July 16, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Seattle comics artist Vivian Li will show participants how real comics come together, from sketching with blue pencils and inking to lettering and telling a story from their own life. All the supplies are provided, so they just need to show up ready to create. It's for ages 11 and up, and it's a pretty cool chance to learn from someone who does this professionally.🚲 Bicycle Bling: Kiddie Kilo Returns to the VelodromeIf you've got a kid who loves riding anything with wheels, the Kiddie Kilo is happening Friday, July 17, at the Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome in Marymoor Park. Kids 12 and under can take a fun lap around the track on just about anything they ride, from bikes and trikes to push bikes and other creative wheel-powered rides. Helmets are required, kids ride free, and adults are asked for a $5 donation. Registration starts around 6:30 p.m., with the Kiddie Kilo wrapping up between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. Just keep an eye on the weather because rain can cancel race night.🏓 Watch Some Seriously Good Pickleball at Perrigo ParkEven if you're not signing up, Saturday, July 18, is a good day to swing by Perrigo Park if you've caught the pickleball bug. The City's Summer Pickleball Tournament runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with some of the area's stronger recreational players battling it out in doubles matches. These aren't beginners learning the rules. Expect long rallies, quick hands at the net, and plenty of competitive play. Bring a chair or just stop by for a while if you're curious why pickleball has become one of the fastest-growing sports around.🎭 Emojiland Brings the Internet to the StageIf you're looking for something a little different this week, SecondStory Repertory is wrapping up its run of Emojiland: The Musical through Sunday, July 19. The show imagines what happens inside your phone when a software update puts every emoji at risk, turning familiar little icons into a funny, surprisingly heartfelt musical about friendship, identity, and finding your place. Tickets are $35, and performances are at SecondStory Rep in Redmond Town Center. If you're in the mood for live theater instead of another movie night, this one's definitely the most unique show in town.🕰️ Redmond History MinuteQuestion: What unique animal ...

    2026/07/09
Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!📰 Redmond Wants Your Input on Safer StreetsThe City of Redmond is asking for your help with a new citywide speed study that could shape how fast people drive on major streets for years to come. As part of the city's Safer Streets Action Plan, they're looking at speeds on arterial and connector roads and figuring out where lower speed limits or other changes could improve safety. You can drop pins on an interactive map or fill out a short questionnaire to share your experience with speeding. If you've ever thought, "People fly down this road," now's your chance to let the city know before future speed limits are decided.🍺 Big Block Brewing Turns 13Big Block Brewing is throwing a Lucky 13 birthday party on Saturday, July 11, from noon until 9:00 PM at 14950 NE 95th Street, and they've packed the day with something for just about everyone. There'll be live music, special beer releases, food trucks, a classic car show, face painting, glitter tattoos, a tattoo truck, and even a macarons vendor. Kids are welcome, dogs are welcome, and the whole event is free. If you're looking for one place where the whole family can spend a few hours this weekend, this is a pretty easy choice.🚗 Italian Car Day at Redmond Town CenterSaturday mornings at Redmond Town Center are already fun if you like cool cars, but July 11 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM is all about Italy. Italian Car Day brings everything from Ferraris and Lamborghinis to Alfa Romeos, Maseratis, and Fiats together in one place. It's free to walk around, chat with owners, and get a close look at cars you don't normally see outside of magazines.🎵 Marcus King Band Comes to Marymoor LiveOne of the biggest concerts in town this week lands at Marymoor Live on Sunday, July 12. Doors open at 5:00 PM, and the Marcus King Band takes the stage at 7:00 PM after an opening set from Penelope Road. If you've never been to a summer concert at Marymoor, this is a good excuse to change that. Bring a blanket, plan to arrive early, and settle in before the music starts.🚲 Bicycle BlingBad news if you were planning to ride the inaugural GETMAD cycling event this year. The Redmond Cycling Club has canceled the ride after permitting issues and questions about using state highways and the closed section of SR 165 couldn't be worked out. A lot of local riders were looking forward to adding another big Northwest ride to the calendar, so this one definitely stings. The club says it hopes to bring the event back in the future, so here's hoping this ends up being a postponement instead of the end of the ride.🐾 Piggy Cup at PetcoThis might be the cutest thing happening in Redmond all week. Petco Redmond is hosting Piggy Cup 2026 on Sunday, July 12, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, where miniature pigs take the field for a soccer match while kids cheer them on. There'll be family activities, plenty of photo opportunities, and everyone gets to pick their favorite little MVPiggy. It's free to attend, and even if you're just stopping by while running errands, this one should put a smile on your face.💼 Retirement Planning Workshop at the LibraryIf retirement is on your mind, the Redmond Library is hosting a free workshop on Sunday, July 12, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM covering the five phases of retirement planning. They'll talk through tax-efficient withdrawals, required minimum distributions, beneficiary planning, and ways to build a retirement strategy that can adapt as life changes. It's geared toward adults 50 and older, whether retirement is still a few years away or you've already made the leap. Bring your questions because this is one of those topics that's easier to understand when someone walks you through it.🕰️ Redmond History MinuteOkay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.Which historic Redmond building once housed the town's undertaker, barber, hardware store, pizza parlor, and originally opened as a saloon in 1913?A) The Clise MansionB) The Matador BuildingC) The Old Redmond SchoolhouseD) The Leary BuildingAnswer revealed at the bottom of this newsletter.🔮 Redmond Rumor MillIs a Bánh Mì Shop Coming to Downtown Redmond? Here's one we'd be pretty happy to see happen. We've been hearing that a Vietnamese sandwich and coffee shop could be looking at a spot along the Cleveland Street corridor. The rumor is they'll be serving bánh mì sandwiches, iced cà phê sữa đá, and other quick lunch favorites in a small, fast-service space. We've also heard the owner has spent the last three years building a following through farmers market pop-ups, but we haven't been able to confirm any of that yet.So...is this Redmond's next great lunch spot, or is it still just neighborhood chatter? If you've got a guess or have heard something, head ...

Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!📰 RedLink Now Takes You to the Redmond Saturday MarketIf you've been meaning to check out the Redmond Saturday Market but don't love dealing with parking, there's some good news. RedLink has expanded its weekend service area to include the Redmond Saturday Market for the rest of the market season, making it easy to ride over from the light rail instead of driving. It's free, it's simple to use, and it's another nice step toward connecting more people with local businesses. Grab a friend, leave the car at home, and spend your Saturday supporting local vendors while making the trip a little more sustainable.🎵 Three '90s Favorites Hit Marymoor LiveFriday night is shaping up to be a fun one if your playlist still has a little '90s in it. Blues Traveler, Gin Blossoms and Spin Doctors all take the stage at Marymoor Live on Friday, July 10. Gates open at 4:00 PM and the show starts at 6:00 PM, giving you plenty of time to grab dinner before settling in for an evening outdoors. If songs like "Run-Around," "Hey Jealousy," and "Two Princes" bring back memories, this one's probably worth grabbing tickets for before they disappear.🎬 Movies at Marymoor Returns This WeekOutdoor movie season officially gets underway Wednesday, July 8, with the first KeyBank Movies at Marymoor Park. The gates open at 7:00 PM with food trucks, lawn games and pre-show entertainment before Ferris Bueller's Day Off lights up the giant screen after sunset. Tickets are affordable, parking is free, and blankets or lawn chairs are definitely recommended. It's one of those classic summer nights that feels like Redmond every year, so show up early and claim a good spot on the lawn.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Day of Play Returns to Grass Lawn ParkLooking for something that gets the kids moving instead of staring at a screen? Family Day of Play is back Saturday, July 11, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Grass Lawn Park. The City of Redmond is filling the park with games, activities and family challenges designed for all ages and skill levels. Bring a blanket or something comfortable to sit on, dress for the weather, and let the library handle the entertainment.🚲 Bicycle Bling: Eastrail Ale Returns July 13If you're looking for an excuse to hop on your bike next Monday, here's a good one. Chainline Brewing is releasing its limited-run Eastrail Ale on Monday, July 13, at Chainline Station in Kirkland, with part of every pint sold helping fund Eastrail Partners and the work to expand the 42-mile regional trail connecting communities across the Eastside. It's a fun way to support the trails many of us already ride and walk while enjoying a fresh summer pale ale. Just remember, once this batch is gone, it's gone until next year.🍹 Celebrate National Mojito Day at Pint & PieSaturday, July 11, gives you one more reason to head downtown if you like trying something new. • Redmond's Tree Rules Are Changing, Turnpike Comes to Town & Best Ice Cream
    2026/07/02
Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!📰 Redmond’s Tree Rules Might Be Changing Okay, so Redmond is rewriting its tree code for the first time since 1998, and this one matters whether you own a house or just like living on a tree-lined street. The city is trying to figure out how to balance growth, housing, and keeping Redmond from turning into one giant construction zone with no shade. They’ve extended the public questionnaire deadline to July 31, so there’s still time to weigh in. If you care about what Redmond looks like ten years from now, this is worth a look.🎵 Turnpike Troubadours at Chateau Ste. Michelle Turnpike Troubadours roll into Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery on Thursday, July 2 at 6pm, and this one’s gonna pull a crowd. They’ve got Muscadine Bloodline and Dexter and The Moonrocks opening, so it’s basically a full night of country and rock without a weak spot in the lineup. Gates open about 90 minutes early, and if you’ve been to these summer shows before, you know parking gets messy fast. Get there early, bring water, and settle in.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Funny First Friday at the Farm Remlinger Farms is trying something new Friday, July 3 from 6:30 to 8pm. Family-friendly stand-up comedy, which honestly sounds like a smart move. They’ve got pro comics, arcade games for bigger kids, and a play area for little ones, so it’s one of those rare things where parents can laugh and kids stay busy. Tickets are $10 online, $15 at the door, and kids under 12 get in free. Could be a sneaky good night out.🚲 Willis Tucker, Two Lakes, and Coffee Ride If you’re looking for a solid Thursday morning ride, this one starts July 2 at 9:30am out of Willis Tucker Park and runs about three hours. It’s a moderate pace, around 14 to 16mph, with rolling hills and a few climbs mixed in. The route cuts through Mill Creek and loops past Martha Lake and Silver Lake before a stop at Frost Donuts for coffee and sugar. Helmets are required, and registration closes at 7:30am, so don’t sleep on it.🐾 Dog-Friendly Patios Are Calling Looks like decent weather this weekend, which means patio season is fully on. If you’ve got a dog, this is prime time to grab coffee, lunch, or a beer somewhere they’re actually welcome. Around Redmond, plenty of spots with outdoor seating fill up fast once the sun hits, and dogs usually get treated better than people anyway. Bring water, keep them leashed, and maybe skip the hottest part of the afternoon. Easy weekend move.🐔 Farm Spotlight: Chicken! Farrel-McWhirter Park is doing a chicken-focused farm spotlight on Sunday, July 5 from 10 to 11am, and if you’ve got kids who love animals, this is easy. The volunteers and docents will be out there talking about the chickens, farm history, and answering questions while kids get up close instead of just pointing through a fence. It’s free, but they want registration so they know how many people are coming. Solid low-key Sunday morning plan.📚 Book Signing at SoulFood CoffeeHouse Leslie Barber is at SoulFood CoffeeHouse on Sunday, July 5 from 1 to 3pm for a reading and signing of her book Unemployable!. The book digs into the mental side of proving your worth, which feels pretty relevant right now. They’ll have copies there if you want one, and SoulFood’s the kind of place where these smaller events actually feel personal instead of awkward. Good option if you want something quieter that still gives you something to think about.🧘 Mindfulness at Redmond Library Redmond Library has a mindfulness session Sunday, July 5 from 2:30 to 5pm focused on body awareness and guided meditation. This isn’t one of those “sit still and pretend your brain is quiet” things. It’s more about noticing what your body’s doing and slowing down enough to actually pay attention. It’s aimed at adults and runs a couple hours, so expect something deeper than a quick workshop. Bring comfortable clothes and don’t rush in late.🔮 Redmond Rumor Mill Here’s one making the rounds: rumor has it a luxury picnic catering company might be taking over a small storefront in Old Redmond. We’re hearing it could be part prep kitchen, part retail shop. Charcuterie boards, flowers, blankets, the whole deal. Basically built for people trying to pull off a Marymoor date night without making three stops first. We don’t know if the lease is signed or if it’s actually happening yet. But if it is... which storefront do you think it is?If you've got a guess or have heard something, head to our Facebook page at facebook.com/BestOfRedmond and drop it in the "Redmond Rumor Mill Guesses" post.🗳️ Your Picks: Best Ice Cream in Redmond Alright, that's it for this week.Head on over to facebook.com/BestOfRedmond, find the post called "Your Picks," and drop your vote in the comments. • Is a Paddle Board Outfitter Coming to Marymoor? Plus Soccer & Dog Groomers
    2026/06/30
Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!📰 Redmond Wants Your InputThe City of Redmond just opened its full community survey, and this one’s for everybody — not just the small batch of residents they heard from earlier this year. It only takes a few minutes, and it’s your chance to tell them what’s working, what’s driving you nuts, and what actually needs fixing around town. Traffic, parks, housing, sidewalks, all of it. This is the stuff city leaders use when they decide where money goes next. If you’ve got opinions, now’s your shot. You can submit your feedback directly by accessing the online questionnaire at Redmondsurvey.com.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 World Soccer Watch Party at Downtown ParkIf your house has soccer fans in it — or you just want a free excuse to hang outside Wednesday — there’s a big World Soccer Games watch party happening July 1 from 1 to 4 at Downtown Park. They’re throwing the Round of 32 match on a giant outdoor screen, and there’s more than just soccer. Kids can jump into activities, there’ll be food vendors, music, giveaways, and community booths all over the park. Bring a chair or a blanket because this one could get crowded.👶 Family Storytime at Farrel-McWhirter ParkIf you’ve got little kids and need something easy to do Wednesday, the Redmond Library is doing Family Storytime at Farrel-McWhirter Park from 12:30 to 1:30. It’s part of their summer run that goes through August, and it’s a good one because it’s outside. They’ll do books, songs, and the usual storytime stuff, but kids can move around without parents stressing about library whispers. Bring snacks and let them burn energy after.📚 Romance Book Club at Brick & Mortar BooksIf your Wednesday night sounds better with books than bars, Brick & Mortar Books has their Romance Book Club from 6:30 to 7:30. This month they’re reading Cosmic Love at the Multiverse Hair Salon, which honestly might win for best title alone. It’s built around inclusive romance books and open to anybody, whether you read one romance a year or twenty. Good excuse to meet some people and talk books without it feeling like homework.♟️ Weekly Chess Club at SoulFood CoffeeHouseSoulFood has a weekly chess club every Wednesday from 4 to 6, and it’s one of those easy drop-in things where you don’t have to be good to show up. If you know your openings, cool. If you barely remember how the bishop moves, also fine. Grab coffee, sit down, and play a few rounds. It’s low-pressure and honestly a solid way to break up the middle of the week.🐾 Got a Nervous Dog? Fireworks Start This WeekQuick heads-up if your dog loses it every July. The neighborhood fireworks usually start before the Fourth, and they’re already starting around Redmond. If your dog gets anxious, now’s the time to prep. Longer walks earlier in the day help. Set up a quiet room. White noise helps too. And double-check tags and microchip info. Every year dogs bolt because of fireworks. Better to get ahead of it now.🚲 Bicycle Bling: GETMAD Ride Hits a RoadblockThe Redmond Cycling Club’s GETMAD 2026 ride is basically sold out, but now the whole thing might get derailed because of route safety concerns near Mowich Lake. WSDOT says debris and hazards along SR 165 need work before a big organized ride can safely roll through, but that work won’t happen until late July. The club says the route looked fine when they checked it in May, so now they’re waiting to see if WSDOT can move things around. Bit of a mess.🕰️ Redmond History MinuteOkay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond. What is the current name of the road that used to be called "Main Street" in old Redmond?A) Cleveland StreetB) Redmond WayC) Leary WayD) Avondale RoadAnswer revealed at the bottom of this newsletter.🔮 Redmond Rumor MillOkay, here’s one we heard this week. Word is a small boutique paddle board and kayak outfitter might be circling a spot near Marymoor with direct water access. Think rentals, lessons, and guided sunset floats on Lake Sammamish. Supposedly this would be a smaller local setup, reservation-only, and not one of those giant chain rental places. We don’t know where exactly or how far along it is. But if this happens... where do you think it lands? If you've got a guess or have heard something, head to our Facebook page at facebook.com/BestOfRedmond and drop it in the "Redmond Rumor Mill Guesses" post.🗳️ Your Picks: Best Dog Groomer in RedmondAlright, that's it for this week.Head on over to facebook.com/BestOfRedmond, find the post called "Your Picks," and drop your vote in the comments. We'll see you in the next edition of Best of Redmond!🎯 History Minute AnswerThe answer is B – Mink fur farming.Redmond had mink ranches along Way 120 in the 1950s. When the fur industry crashed in 1960, the ranches shut down. Nationwide there were nearly 7,000 mink farms in the mid-1950s, but prices collapsed and the business quickly declined. Before Redmond became the tech hub we know today, it was home to a thriving agricultural community—and raising mink for luxury fur coats was one of its more unusual industries. It's another reminder that Redmond's history is a lot more interesting than most people realize.

    2026/06/23

Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!

📚 A Redmond Author Is Launching a Time-Travel Novel This Week

Tomorrow night, June 24, at 6:30 PM, local author Joseph Eckert will be at Brick & Mortar Books celebrating the release of his debut novel, The Traveler. The story follows a guy who suddenly starts jumping forward through time every morning, watching days and eventually years disappear in the blink of an eye while his family tries to figure out what's happening.

This is exactly the kind of event independent bookstores do well. You get to meet the author, hear where the idea came from, and support a local business at the same time. If you're into science fiction, time travel stories, or just want an excuse to wander through a bookstore, this one looks worth checking out.

    👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Tonight, Let's Cheer Redmond

Tonight, June 23, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, the Redmond Senior & Community Center is hosting a community Matchday Party with snacks, family activities, and plenty of room for kids to run around. Yes, there's a soccer match on the screen, but the bigger draw is the chance to spend a summer evening hanging out with neighbors.

They're expecting a good turnout and will have youth soccer activities running alongside the event. Throw on something red, white, and blue and bring the family. Sometimes the best local events are really just excuses to get people together.

🐾 Tomorrow Is Video Game Day for Dogs

Tomorrow, June 24, from 11 AM to 2 PM, Pickles Playland is hosting Video Game Day for dogs attending daycare. Only in Redmond could a dog daycare calendar include something that sounds like it belongs at Nintendo headquarters.

The event is limited to dogs already participating in daycare, boarding, or grooming services, and the Pickles crew handles all the themed fun behind the scenes. If your dog is already scheduled to be there, they'll probably have a better Wednesday than most people sitting in meetings.

🚶 Rails to Repeats Challenge Heads Into the Home Stretch

The Rails to Repeats challenge continues through June 30 along the Redmond Central Connector, giving walkers, runners, and cyclists one more reason to get outside before the month wraps up. Participants can complete the designated Eastrail segment as many times as they want, with prizes going to the people who log the most laps.

The entry fee helps support Eastrail Partners and future trail improvements. Whether you're training for something or just trying to spend less time staring at a screen, this is a pretty good excuse to hit the trail.

    🕰️ Redmond History Minute

Okay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.

The Clise Mansion at Marymoor Park had many unusual features. Which of these did it actually have?

    A) Roaming peacocks and a Dutch windmill

    B) An indoor bowling alley

    C) A moat with alligators

    D) A private zoo with elephants

Answer revealed at the bottom of this newsletter.

    🔮 Redmond Rumor Mill

Word is a ramen-and-natural-wine bar, yes, that combination, is being quietly developed by a pair of Seattle restaurant veterans who have been looking at a downtown Redmond space.

What we don't know is where exactly it would go, whether a lease has actually been signed, or how far along the project may be. We also don't know if the concept stays exactly the same once plans become public.

The question is simple: where do you think it ends up?

If you've got a guess or have heard something, head to our Facebook page and drop it in the "Redmond Rumor Mill Guesses" post.

    🎯 History Minute Answer

The answer is A – Roaming peacocks and a Dutch windmill.

Willowmoor Farm had 28 buildings, roaming peacocks, a functional Dutch windmill, a treehouse in a maple tree, boathouses, greenhouses, and even a narrow-gauge railroad in the barnyard used to haul grain. It was basically a fantasy estate sitting right here in Redmond, and you can still visit the mansion at Marymoor Park today.
