Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!📰 Help Shape Redmond’s Next City BudgetRedmond is starting work on its 2027–28 city budget, and the City wants residents to weigh in on what should get funded. There’s an online budget questionnaire open now where you can give feedback on city programs, services and priorities, and the first of several public budget hearings is coming up Tuesday, September 15.Basically, if there’s something you think Redmond should be spending more money on (or maybe less), this is your chance to say something before the budget gets locked down.🎨 Arts in the Park Takes Over Downtown ParkArts in the Park kicks off its September run Saturday, September 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Redmond Downtown Park, 16101 Redmond Way.This week’s performances include BIGHUG K-POP Dance Group and the Redmond Tech Orchestra, plus the Eastside Made Pop-Up Faire with local artists, small businesses, nonprofits and youth groups. It’s free, family-friendly, and this is the first of four Saturday night Arts in the Park events happening throughout September.🤖 Small Businesses Get an AI Crash CourseIf you own a small business or nonprofit and keep hearing about AI without really knowing what you’re supposed to do with it, OneRedmond has a Lunch & Learn Thursday, September 3, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Together Center, 16305 NE 87th Street, Suite 110.“AI Without the Overwhelm” is supposed to cut through some of the noise and focus on which tools are actually useful, how to get started and what to watch for when it comes to security and responsible use. There’ll be a presentation, a live demonstration and time for questions.🚴 Friday Night Racing and Paninis at MarymoorHere’s a pretty easy Friday night. The Jerry Baker Velodrome at Marymoor has Friday Night Racing September 4 from 7 to 10 p.m., with a $5 suggested donation for spectators and free admission for kids. The racing includes a Mixed Madison Scratch, elimination races and something called the Marymoor Crawl, which already sounds worth seeing just based on the name. The Panini Truck will also be there from 6 to 9 p.m., so you can grab dinner before or during the racing. Food truck schedules can change, so check before you go.🚗 Exotic Cars Take Over Redmond Town CenterExotics at Redmond Town Center is back Saturday, September 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. at 7525 166th Ave NE.The weekly gathering brings out exotic and genuinely rare cars and bills itself as the largest weekly car gathering in the country. This Saturday is a regular show rather than one of the specialty car days, admission is free, and you can just walk around and see what showed up that morning. One catch: the whole thing is weather dependent, so if Saturday looks rainy, check their site before heading over.🐾 Woodinville Is Looking for a Pet MayorOkay, this is adorable. Homeward Pet Adoption Center is looking for candidates for Pet Mayor of Woodinville, which means your dog, cat, or other very ambitious household supervisor can officially enter local politics.Pets don’t even have to live in Woodinville to run. Each submission and vote helps raise money for Homeward Pet’s work, including veterinary care, behavior support, kitten care and finding homes for adoptable animals. So yes, your pet can run for mayor, raise money for a good cause, and potentially become more popular than most actual politicians.⛳ Students and Teachers Get Free Games at FlatstickFlatstick Pub has Study Hall Thursday, September 3, from 7 to 11 p.m. at 7530 164th Ave NE, Suite A108.Anyone with a valid school ID gets free games, and that includes teachers and faculty, too. Bring classmates, coworkers or whoever else qualifies and play without paying for the games. And since Flatstick also runs its regular free trivia from 7 to 9 that night, you could theoretically make a whole evening out of proving how smart you are and then immediately missing a three-foot putt.🚲 New Buffered Bike Lane Going In Near Redmond HighRedmond is making a batch of accessibility and transportation improvements around Education Hill and Grass Lawn, including a new buffered bike lane on NE 104th Street between 179th Avenue NE and 184th Avenue NE.The larger project upgrades 47 curb ramps to current ADA standards and includes new pavement around Redmond High School. Work on the NE 104th Street portion began in August, and the overall project is expected to continue through December. So this isn’t just planning on a map somewhere, the work is actually underway.👀 Rumor MillSources say a bicycle café with showers, lockers and secure bike storage is being pitched for a spot between downtown and Marymoor. The idea is coffee and breakfast in the morning, beer and sandwiches later, plus monthly memberships for commuters who want somewhere to clean up before work.🕰️ Redmond History Trivia MinuteWashington ...
