Welcome to Best of Redmond! Redmond's twice-weekly newsletter and podcast about all the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days!📰 OneRedmond Wants Redmond’s Standout BusinessesOkay, OneRedmond is looking for 20 Redmond businesses and organizations that are helping shape where the city is headed, and applications are open through August 24. The new Redmond Spotlight 20 program will recognize people doing that work in five areas: Building Redmond, Connecting Redmond, Inspiring Redmond, Growing Redmond, and Experiencing Redmond. The first class will be announced in September and recognized at OneRedmond’s annual meeting October 22. If your business or organization is doing something worth talking about, this is the week to get your application in.🎵 ZZ Top and Cheap Trick at MarymoorIf classic rock is your thing, Tuesday night is pretty easy. ZZ Top and Cheap Trick are at Marymoor Live Tuesday, August 11, with doors at 4 p.m. and the show starting at 6 p.m. at Marymoor Park, 6046 West Lake Sammamish Parkway NE. You’re getting two bands with a whole lot of recognizable songs between them, so this is more crank-it-up than sit-quietly kind of night. If you’re going, give yourself extra time for parking and getting through the entrance. And maybe don’t expect to hear a lot of new stuff.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Outdoor Family Story Time at the LibraryIf you’ve got little kids, the Redmond Library is taking story time outside Thursday, August 13, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. It’s on the grassy area between the library and City Hall at 15990 NE 85th Street. They’ll have stories, music, movement and rhymes, followed by up to 30 minutes of outdoor play. It’s all ages, registration isn’t required, and it’s free. Bring something to sit on and dress for the weather. Check before you go if it’s really hot or the air quality gets bad.🚛 Big Truck Day at Farrel-McWhirter ParkBig Truck Day is Friday, August 14, from noon to 3 p.m. at Farrel-McWhirter Park, 19545 Redmond Road. Kids can climb around trucks, tractors, construction equipment and other big vehicles that actually work around the community. There are two sessions, noon to 1:30 and 1:30 to 3, and the event includes a goody bag and tractor-pulled wagon ride. Pre-registration is encouraged, and each child needs to be registered separately. One thing to know: there can be some serious honking and sirens, so bring hearing protection if your kid is sensitive to loud noises.🐾 Sniffer Dog Day at Pickles PlaylandGot a dog who thinks every walk is a full-blown investigation? Pickles Playland has Sniffer Dog Day Friday, August 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Redmond daycare. The event is built around letting the dogs put those noses to work, which seems like a pretty good use of a dog’s afternoon. If your dog loves sniffing everything, this one should be right up their alley.🚲 Redmond Is Adding More Bike ParkingHere’s some new bike news for downtown Redmond. The city is planning two additional locations for on-demand bicycle lockers, with installation expected by the end of summer. One will be near 164th Avenue NE and the west end of the downtown light rail station, close to Redmond Town Center. The other is planned near 161st Avenue NE, close to Downtown Park. The lockers give riders a secure, weather-protected place to stash bikes, scooters and gear. If you ride downtown, keep an eye out for these. Not having to drag your bike into every store could be pretty handy.✨ Harry Potter DroneArt Show at MarymoorOkay, this is a little different. The Harry Potter DroneArt Show takes over the sky above Marymoor Park Friday and Saturday, August 14 and 15, with the show starting at 9:15 p.m. at 6046 West Lake Sammamish Parkway NE. More than 1,200 drones create Harry Potter scenes in the sky, with music and a live electric violinist as part of the show. Doors open at 7:15 p.m., and the show runs about an hour including an intermission. It’s outside, it starts late, and late entry may not be allowed, so get there early and bring something warm.🥕 CHOMP Comes Back to MarymoorCHOMP is back Saturday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Marymoor Park, 6046 West Lake Sammamish Parkway NE. It’s a free celebration of local food, farms and sustainability, with a farmers market, local chefs and restaurants, cooking demos, live music, farm animals, tree climbing, a street-band parade and a beverage garden. Basically, there’s a lot going on, so you can make this as short or as long a stop as you want. Bring the family, wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty, and leave some room for food.📚 EnGAYging in Sapphistry at the Redmond LibraryIf you’re looking for something a little quieter Sunday, the Redmond Library has EnGAYging in Sapphistry from 2 to 3 p.m. August 16 at 15990 NE 85th Street. Pride Across the Bridge and the library are putting together this sapphic-centered book club for queer adults, with books ranging ...
