  • Can law enforcement techniques help in analysing investments?
    2025/11/17

This week we speak to Tom Dahri. Tom has a storied career in law enforcement and played pivotal roles during the 7/7 attacks and headed the homicide command unit during the 2017 London Bridge attacks.

We wanted to lean on Tom’s experience in the field of investigation and see if we can draw parallels between building a case to track down a perpetrator and building an investment rationale for investing in businesses. We explore and delve into Tom’s experiences in the field and discuss how evidence, witness statements and forensics all built a profile of a scene and how the police would use those factors to build their cases.

We talk about behavioural science and how this lends itself to analysing how founders and entrepreneurs may behave under stress. Tom has himself founded and built a number of tech start-ups, so he’s seen both sides of the coin. His experience in law enforcement has played a big part in shaping his approach to product market fit.

  • Ben's Insights - Episode 13 - Wednesday 5th November 2025
    2025/11/05

Will Palantir bring the tech house down? Is the AI bubble bursting? We'll try to dissect where the bubbles are and how to navigate.

The lack of data emanating from the Us government thanks to the month long shut down is making investors nervous. Its not helping that the Fed has given a number of hawkish signals potentially implying no further cuts this year. We view the easing cycle in full motion. Whether its a cut in December or in Q1, the easing has only just begun.

US/China trade agreements bring a full circle to this relationship and we're back at pre liberation levels. Trump tried it on with China and China fought back. Nothing to see here anymore!

The 10 year treasury yield is likely to continue to track the downward thrust in Fed rates implying bond investors also believe in continued easing. All positive for risk assets.

Recent MAG7 results imply the bubble is firmly in the pure AI segment of the tech sector. The big players reported strongly, and in the main, are trading at or small premium to market.

US exceptionalism remains. 65%+ global allocation to US continues to make sense and the 'buy-the-dip' mantra remains in place at least until we have evidence of economic slowdown, inflationary forces kicking in or the Fed putting a long term pause on easing.

  • Finance & Money Matters - Episode 12 - Monday 27th October 2025
    2025/10/27

Its a potentially game changing week! Benign US CPI numbers for September almost guarantee a decline in Fed rates when they deliberate on Wednesday. US/China trade discussions turning friendly and we try to explain the current investor addiction to gold.

Market sentiment is likely to be swayed this week by earnings announcements from Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta, Amazon and Apple. These 5 account for 25% of the S&P500 Index in value terms. Whatever they say will drive sentiment, at least for the short term.

Valuations are high but are not necessarily in bubble territory. We'll take a granular look at each company's valuations and prospects. Volatility is likely to be at elevated levels this week and bad earnings calls will be punished severely.

However, with interest rates on the decline, liquidity in capital markets improving, the US economy in mild growth mode and employment levels (as far as we know! no figures available) steady at near full employment levels, equity markets, particularly the US, remain robust and buying the dips remains the sensible option.

  • Finance & Money Matters - Episode 11 - Tuesday 21st October 2025
    2025/10/21

This week we'll discuss whether the continued government closure in the US will begin to frighten investors trying to find fresh & up to date signals on the health of the economy. The 10 year bond yield is below the Fed rate. Mortgages in the US normally price off the 10 year rate. Are we going to witness a resurgence in the housing market?

Plenty of talk in the investor world about bubbles bursting and Black Swans on the horizon. We don't see it. The US is in a downward interest rate environment, the consumer remains resilient, the tax benefits of the big beautiful bill are coming and government need for short term funding is declining thanks to tariff receipts.

Valuations are high and Q3 earnings announcements will impact short term stock movements more than ever. However, the US remains the overweight in global portfolios as momentum and liquidity remains strong.

We'll also discuss President Trump's latest tariff salvo at China and ascertain if this is yet another escalate in order to de-escalate strategy. Did the stock market on Friday get overly pessimistic? In Europe, we talk about interest rates and potential risk asset under performance vs the US.

The US market is expensive but it may be justified by better growth and an interest rate loosening cycle.
