The Orioles’ pitching staff is in shambles—Kyle Bradish’s season’s over, Brandon Young’s fading fast, and Shane Baz limped off after a brutal line drive to the elbow. But in a wild, extra-innings thriller, they pulled off a 7-5 win fueled by Pete Alonso’s 300th homer (earning a curtain call from stunned fans) and Coby Mayo’s inside-the-park, three-run blast in the 11th. Despite striking out 17 times and walking just once, the offense rose to the occasion. With Baz’s future uncertain and the bullpen stepping up, this team proves it can still find ways to win—even when everything’s falling apart.

Shane Baz’s night went sideways when a 105 MPH line drive slammed into his pitching arm, forcing him out in the fifth inning—X-rays were clear, but he couldn’t throw right afterward. Manager Craig Albernaz confirmed Baz was sore after giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out two. Grant Wolfram shut down the threat with a pickoff of Bo Bichette. Despite leading the Orioles in innings pitched and starts, Baz’s record sits at 6-15 this season. Still, Baltimore pulled off an 11-inning thriller, winning 7-5 against the Mets—but they remain three games behind Cleveland in the wild card race.

Pete Alonso, the Mets’ former home run king, just hit his 300th career homer — and it happened in his first game back at Citi Field, now wearing an Orioles uniform. With a ninth-inning solo shot that tied the game, the moment felt like destiny, echoing his legendary connection to the stadium. Fans roared, honored him with chants, a tribute video, and a standing ovation — even as he trotted around the bases in enemy gear. The crowd demanded a curtain call. Alonso, grateful for the love, called it “really special.” Now among just 19 active players to reach 300 homers, he’s also one of only a few to do it against his former team — a rare testament to his impact on baseball.
