The Orioles’ pitching staff is in shambles—Kyle Bradish’s season’s over, Brandon Young’s fading fast, and Shane Baz limped off after a brutal line drive to the elbow. But in a wild, extra-innings thriller, they pulled off a 7-5 win fueled by Pete Alonso’s 300th homer (earning a curtain call from stunned fans) and Coby Mayo’s inside-the-park, three-run blast in the 11th. Despite striking out 17 times and walking just once, the offense rose to the occasion. With Baz’s future uncertain and the bullpen stepping up, this team proves it can still find ways to win—even when everything’s falling apart.

Shane Baz’s night went sideways when a 105 MPH line drive slammed into his pitching arm, forcing him out in the fifth inning—X-rays were clear, but he couldn’t throw right afterward. Manager Craig Albernaz confirmed Baz was sore after giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out two. Grant Wolfram shut down the threat with a pickoff of Bo Bichette. Despite leading the Orioles in innings pitched and starts, Baz’s record sits at 6-15 this season. Still, Baltimore pulled off an 11-inning thriller, winning 7-5 against the Mets—but they remain three games behind Cleveland in the wild card race.

Pete Alonso, the Mets’ former home run king, just hit his 300th career homer — and it happened in his first game back at Citi Field, now wearing an Orioles uniform. With a ninth-inning solo shot that tied the game, the moment felt like destiny, echoing his legendary connection to the stadium. Fans roared, honored him with chants, a tribute video, and a standing ovation — even as he trotted around the bases in enemy gear. The crowd demanded a curtain call. Alonso, grateful for the love, called it “really special.” Now among just 19 active players to reach 300 homers, he’s also one of only a few to do it against his former team — a rare testament to his impact on baseball.

Shane Baz’s season took a hard turn when a line drive struck his elbow, forcing him to exit mid-game against the Mets — a team he faced while former Oriole Pete Alonso returned for a nostalgic ovation. Despite a rough 6-15 record and a 4.05 ERA, Baz remained a steady force in the rotation, often left to shoulder the load without run support. The Orioles, clinging to slim playoff hopes after winning Game 1 of the series, now face a pivotal three-game set against the Blue Jays — who lead the wild card race — with just four games behind. With Baz’s status uncertain and the regular season ending in two weeks, every pitch and player’s health feels more vital than ever as Baltimore fights to make the postseason.

Shane Baz’s season hit a major snag after being crushed by a 105 mph line drive — the Orioles’ prized pitcher, fresh off a $68M extension and a strong 4.11 ERA, exited early in pain, leaving the Mets up by one run. With four innings pitched and seven hits allowed, his injury could shake up Baltimore’s rotation as they await updates on the elbow damage.

Pete Alonso, ex-Met power hitter turned Orioles slugger, is flipping the script—inviting Mets fans to root for his new team, even though they’re in a different league. With the Mets out of playoff contention and the Orioles clinging to Wild Card hopes, Alonso’s RBIs and homers are fueling a surprising fan shift. Can he turn loyal Mets supporters into Orioles cheerleaders? The answer might just be in how much love he’s still getting from Citi Field—even as he plays for Baltimore.

The Orioles’ roster is a mixed bag of surprises and disappointments as the season winds down. Some players like Coby Mayo, Dylan Beavers, and even surprise utility man Blaze Alexander are exceeding expectations, while others like Pete Alonso and Leody Taveras are delivering on hype—though not without flaws. But the real story? Several high-ceiling young stars—Gunnar Henderson, Jackson Holliday, Colton Cowser, and Jordan Westburg—are underperforming badly, and Tyler ONeill’s injury woes add to the chaos. The front office’s power-first approach is exposing defensive and lineup holes, with few prospects ready to step in. With playoff hopes fading, fans are left wondering if this team can turn things around—or if next year’s rebuild will be the only way out.

Baseball’s playoff race is tightening as the season nears its end—teams like the Rays, Dodgers, and Yankees have locked in, while others like the A’s, Angels, Reds, Nationals, Mets, Giants, and Rockies are officially out. The Cardinals, despite a rebuild and key trades, are surprisingly competitive. The Mariners, once championship hopefuls, now sit 11 games under .500 and are likely next to be eliminated. The Orioles still cling to hope, nine games behind, with new additions like Pete Alonso and Shane Baz aiming for a Wild Card miracle.
