  • EP03 Great Expectations - Setting expectations with clients to avoid calamity
    2023/04/11
The All Things MSP podcast is a valuable resource for anyone in the managed IT services industry. In this episode, Justin Esgar and Eric Anthony discuss a common challenge faced by managed service providers: dealing with demanding clients. They highlight the importance of managing client expectations by setting up processes and procedures that clearly define the responsibilities of both parties. One crucial element to managing demanding clients is having a comprehensive Managed Service Agreement (MSA) in place. The MSA serves as a contract between the managed service provider and their client, outlining the services provided, payment terms, and other critical details. As the hosts note, the MSA is a critical document that helps to ensure that both parties are on the same page and that expectations are clear from the start. The hosts also stress the importance of taking emotions out of the equation when dealing with demanding clients. While it can be challenging to maintain a professional demeanor when faced with difficult clients, it is essential to remember that this is a business relationship. The hosts encourage listeners to remain focused on delivering the best possible service and to approach difficult conversations with a calm, professional demeanor. Ultimately, the hosts emphasize that managing demanding clients is an ongoing process that requires careful attention and a proactive approach. By setting expectations clearly in the MSA and communicating regularly with clients, managed service providers can help to ensure that their clients are satisfied and that their businesses continue to thrive. Listeners to this episode will come away with valuable insights on how to manage demanding clients effectively and build a successful managed IT services business.

  • EP07 - Post Pandemic Growth Mode
    2023/05/10
In the latest episode of the "All Things MSP" podcast, Justin Esgar and Eric Anthony sit down with MSP Ed Lukacs to discuss the challenges of marketing and sales in the managed IT services industry. Ed shares his experiences as an Apple Consultant Network member and MSP. He shares the difficulties he faced in defining his marketing plan in post-pandemic growth mode. Justin and Eric offer their insights on how MSPs can overcome the challenges of marketing and sales. They stress the importance of getting exposure and putting oneself out there, especially on platforms like LinkedIn. Eric mentions his framework for marketing, which breaks it down into two areas: inbound and outbound. Inbound marketing involves attracting customers through content creation and social media engagement, while outbound marketing involves more traditional methods like cold calling and email campaigns. Both Justin and Eric emphasize the need to identify and target one's ideal client. They caution against trying to be all things to all people, and instead recommend focusing on a specific niche or vertical. Justin uses the example of a kid who landed an internship by targeting all of his potential employer's connections on LinkedIn with personalized ads. The lesson here is that with proper targeting, it is possible to stand out from the competition and get noticed. Overall, the podcast offers valuable insights into the challenges of marketing and sales in the MSP industry, and provides practical advice on how to overcome them. By focusing on targeted marketing, creating engaging content, and leveraging social media, MSPs can increase their exposure and attract more clients. As the industry continues to evolve, it will be important for MSPs to stay up-to-date with the latest marketing trends and techniques to remain competitive.

  • EP08 - Marketing Content that Matters
    2023/05/16
In the latest episode of "All Things MSP," host Justin Esgar and co-host Eric Anthony interview Tim Fitzpatrick, a marketing consultant and guru. They discuss the importance of honing in on ideal clients and creating a targeted marketing message. Fitzpatrick emphasizes the importance of creating an "ideal client GPS" list, which is a list of where your ideal clients congregate, both online and offline. For example, if you are targeting veterinary practice owners, you would want to create a list of all the associations, trade shows, and influencers in that space. Once you have created your list, you can then choose which avenues to test and get out in front of. However, before taking action, it's important to create a targeted marketing message that resonates with your ideal client. Fitzpatrick notes that many businesses, including MSPs, make the mistake of having a generic message that doesn't set them apart from their competitors. He advises businesses to focus on a specific niche and to nail that niche before expanding to other markets. Focusing on a specific niche has many advantages. For one, it makes it easier to create a targeted message that resonates with your ideal client. It also makes it easier to identify where to find your ideal clients and to go where the fish are, so to speak. Additionally, it allows businesses to stand out from their competitors and to become the go-to business in their niche. Fitzpatrick notes that many businesses don't need a lot of clients to transform their business, and as such, they don't need to target broadly. By focusing on a specific niche, businesses can create a more manageable list of potential clients and make their marketing efforts more efficient. As they begin to dominate their niche, they can then expand into other markets if they choose to do so. In conclusion, honing in on ideal clients and creating a targeted marketing message is key to the success of any business, including MSPs. By creating an ideal client GPS list and focusing on a specific niche, businesses can become more efficient and effective in their marketing efforts and stand out from their competitors.
