    Episode 12: Permission to Dream

Welcome back to The Power of Permission.

Today, we’re talking about permission to dream.

A dream is a mental picture of a future possibility. It’s high on inspiration, but often low on structure. It’s a deep desire for how we hope the future could look.

    But dreaming takes courage.

Because to dream, we have to be willing to imagine something that does not yet exist. We have to risk disappointment. We have to live with uncertainty. We have to believe that the future could look different than the present.

And maybe that’s why all the permissions we’ve talked about throughout this series matter so much.

We need permission to belong so we don’t have to prove our worth through the dream.

Permission to be human so we can have limits, setbacks, emotions, and needs along the way.

Permission over perfection so we can begin before we have everything figured out.

Permission to rest so we don’t burn out before the dream has time to grow.

Permission to play so we don’t lose our joy and creativity.

Permission to tell the truth, set boundaries, forgive, break old agreements, and rewrite the stories that have kept us stuck.

And finally, permission to begin—to take that first faithful step.

All of those permissions create the freedom we need not only to dream the dream, but to become the person capable of carrying it.

Joseph gives us a powerful picture of this. He received a dream when he was young, but the fulfillment came years later—and not through the route he would have expected or preferred. The dream was real, but the process shaped him. God used the waiting, the disappointment, the leadership, the loss, and even the detours to prepare Joseph for what the dream would eventually require of him.

So today, we’re not just asking, “What do I want my future to look like?”

    We’re asking:

What has God placed in my heart?

What have I stopped dreaming about because I was afraid to hope again?

Who do I need to become to faithfully carry what I’m asking God for?

And am I willing to trust God if the fulfillment looks different than the picture I originally imagined?

Because faith gives us permission to dream big—but surrender keeps our hands open.

You have permission to imagine what could be.

You have permission to hope again.

    You have permission to dream.

  • Permission to Forgive
    2026/08/31

Welcome back to The Power of Permission.

Today we’re talking about one of the hardest permissions to live out: permission to forgive.

Forgiveness can feel complicated because sometimes the hurt was real, the apology never came, the relationship was never repaired, and the person who wounded us may never fully understand what they caused.

    So we hold on.

We replay the conversation. We revisit the offense. We keep score. And sometimes, without realizing it, we allow the wound to become part of our identity.

But forgiveness is not saying, “It didn’t matter.”

It is saying, “It mattered deeply, but I will not let it have the final word.”

Biblical forgiveness does not excuse sin, remove consequences, erase boundaries, or automatically restore trust. It is the decision to release the debt into God’s hands and refuse to let bitterness continue shaping our hearts.

Jesus tells Peter not to forgive just seven times, but seventy-seven times—not because pain is insignificant, but because mercy is meant to become a way of life.

Today we’ll talk about what forgiveness is, what it isn’t, how unforgiveness can quietly shape our identity, and what it looks like to trust God with justice while choosing freedom for ourselves.

Because sometimes forgiveness is less about setting the other person free and more about refusing to remain imprisoned by what they did.

You can remember the story without continuing to carry the weight of it.

    You have permission to forgive.

  • Permission to Rewrite the Story
    2026/08/24

Episode Title: Permission to Rewrite the Story

Welcome back to The Power of Permission.

Today, we’re talking about the freedom to rewrite the story.

Every one of us lives from a story. Some parts were shaped by what happened to us. Others were formed by what people said about us, what we learned to believe, or the labels we carried for years.

    Maybe your story sounds like:

    “I’m not enough.”

    “People always leave.”

    “I have to earn love.”

    “I’ll never change.”

“This is just who I am.”

The problem is not that painful chapters exist. The problem is when we allow one chapter to become the title of the whole book.

But what if the story you have been living from is not the story God is telling?

Throughout Scripture, God meets people in broken places and gives them a new future. Abram becomes Abraham. Jacob becomes Israel. Peter’s failure becomes restoration. Paul’s past becomes a testimony.

God does not deny what happened. He redeems it.

Rewriting the story does not mean pretending the pain was not real, minimizing the past, or erasing consequences. It means refusing to let your wounds, failures, or family patterns have the final word.

Today, we’ll explore the stories we inherited, the lies we accepted, and the truth God speaks over our identity. We’ll talk about how healing can interrupt generational patterns and how grace allows us to carry the past differently.

Your history may explain parts of you, but it does not have the authority to define you.

Your worst chapter is not your whole story.

    The Author is still writing.

  • Permission to Begin
    2026/08/17

    Episode Title: Permission to Begin

Welcome back to The Power of Permission.

Today, we’re talking about the courage to begin something new.

For many of us, starting is the hardest part. We wait until we feel ready, confident, qualified, certain, or fully prepared. We tell ourselves we need more experience, a clearer plan, better timing, or confirmation that everything will work out.

But faith rarely gives us the whole map.

More often, God gives us the next step.

Throughout Scripture, God called people to begin before they felt ready. Abraham left without knowing exactly where he was going. Moses stepped into leadership while feeling inadequate. Peter stepped out of the boat before he knew how the moment would end. Noah began building an ark before there was any visible sign of rain.

The first board Noah laid did not look like an ark. It looked small, ordinary, and incomplete. But every great act of obedience begins that way—with one faithful step.

Today, we’ll talk about the fears that keep us stuck, the perfectionism that tells us we must be good before we begin, and the trust it takes to start without guarantees.

Because you do not have to be ready for the entire journey.

You only have to be willing to take the next faithful step.

You have permission to be a beginner.

You have permission to learn as you go.

    You have permission to begin.

  • Permission to be Human
    2026/08/10

Episode Title: Permission to Be Human

Welcome back to The Power of Permission.

Today, we’re talking about something many of us struggle to give ourselves: permission to be human.

    Permission to have limits.

    Permission to feel deeply.

Permission to need rest, ask for help, make mistakes, and admit when we do not have it all together.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to confuse strength with self-sufficiency. We began believing that being faithful meant never feeling overwhelmed, never disappointing anyone, and never needing anything from anyone else.

But that is not the picture Scripture gives us.

The Bible says we are made from dust and filled with the breath of God. We are both deeply dignified and undeniably dependent. Even Jesus, in His full humanity, became tired, wept, grieved, withdrew to rest, and asked others to stay near Him in His sorrow.

Being human is not a spiritual failure.

Our emotions are not evidence that we lack faith. Our limits are not defects. Our need for rest, connection, and grace is part of how God created us.

Today, we’ll explore the difference between being human and being ruled by the flesh, why so many of us feel ashamed of our limitations, and how accepting our humanity can lead us into greater honesty, humility, compassion, and dependence on God.

Because God is not asking you to become a machine.

He is not waiting for you to become invulnerable.

He already knows how you were formed, and He remembers that you are dust.

You have permission to stop pretending.

You have permission to receive grace.

You have permission to be human.

  • Permission to Tell the Truth
    2026/08/03

Welcome back to The Power of Permission.

Today we’re talking about something that has the power to change every relationship in your life: permission to tell the truth.

Truth sounds simple—until it costs us something.

Sometimes the hardest truths aren’t the ones we tell other people. They’re the ones we avoid telling ourselves.

    “I’m exhausted.”

    “I’m hurt.”

    “I need help.”

    “I’m afraid.”

    “This relationship isn’t healthy.”

“I’ve been pretending everything is okay.”

Many of us learned early in life that telling the truth wasn’t always safe. Maybe honesty was met with criticism, rejection, conflict, or disappointment. So we learned to hide our feelings, soften our words, or become who everyone else needed us to be.

But every time we sacrifice truth to keep the peace, we slowly lose ourselves.

Scripture calls us to something better. We are invited to “speak the truth in love.” Truth without love can wound, but love without truth isn’t really love at all. God never asks us to choose between honesty and compassion. He calls us to both.

Today we’ll explore why truth feels so risky, how fear and people-pleasing keep us silent, and what it looks like to live with the kind of honesty that heals instead of harms.

Because telling the truth isn’t about winning an argument or proving a point.

    It’s about living with integrity.

It’s about bringing what has been hidden into the light.

It’s about trusting that the truth, spoken with love and received with grace, has the power to set us free.

You don’t need permission to pretend.

You have permission to tell the truth.

Pull up a chair and let’s begin.

  • Permission to Break the Agreement
    2026/07/27

Welcome back to The Power of Permission.

Today we’re talking about a kind of agreement that many of us don’t even realize we’ve made.

    Not a contract we signed.

Not a promise we spoke out loud.

But an agreement we quietly accepted somewhere along the way.

    Maybe it sounds like this:

    “I’m not enough.”

    “I have to earn love.”

“If I disappoint people, they’ll leave.”

    “I have to be perfect.”

    “I’ll never change.”

“This is just who I am.”

The problem is, what we repeatedly believe eventually begins to shape how we live. We make decisions from those beliefs. We build relationships around those beliefs. We even begin to think God sees us through those beliefs.

But here’s the question I want us to wrestle with today:

What if the story you’re living isn’t the truth God is speaking?

Throughout Scripture, God continually invited people to exchange lies for truth, fear for faith, shame for grace, and old identities for new ones. He called Abram by a new name, reminded Gideon he was a mighty warrior while he was still hiding, restored Peter after failure, and declared that in Christ we are a new creation.

God has always been in the business of breaking false agreements.

Today we’ll explore the lies we unknowingly partner with, how those agreements influence our lives, and what it looks like to replace them with the truth of God’s Word.

Because freedom doesn’t begin when your circumstances change.

Freedom begins when you stop agreeing with what God never said about you.

If you’ve been carrying labels that don’t belong to you, believing lies that have kept you stuck, or living from an identity rooted more in your wounds than in God’s promises, this episode is for you.

It’s time to break the agreement.

Pull up a chair and let’s begin.

  • Permission to Put Down the Phone
    2026/07/20

Welcome back to The Power of Permission.

Today we’re talking about one of the most important boundaries we can set in our modern world: permission to put down the phone.

Most of us don’t think of our phones as something we need boundaries with. They’re our calendars, our cameras, our connection to family, our work, our entertainment, and our source of information. But somewhere along the way, many of us stopped using our phones as tools—and started allowing them to shape our attention, our relationships, and even our peace.

Have you ever picked up your phone to check one text, only to look up twenty minutes later wondering where the time went? Have you ever sat across from someone you love while both of you were staring at separate screens? Have you ever felt anxious because your phone wasn’t nearby?

The truth is, our attention is one of God’s greatest gifts. Whatever consistently captures our attention will eventually shape our hearts.

Jesus was never rushed by interruptions, never distracted by the urgent demands around Him, and never confused availability with faithfulness. He made time to be fully present with the people in front of Him, and He regularly withdrew from the noise to be alone with the Father.

Maybe the greatest boundary you can set today isn’t saying no to another commitment.

Maybe it’s simply putting your phone down long enough to notice the people around you, hear God’s voice more clearly, and remember that your value isn’t measured by your responsiveness or your availability.

Today we’ll talk about why it’s so hard to disconnect, how technology can quietly steal our presence, and some practical, biblical rhythms that help us reclaim our attention.

Because the people who matter most deserve more than the leftovers of our attention.

And perhaps one of the most loving things you can do—for God, for others, and for yourself—is to give yourself permission to put down the phone.

Pull up a chair and let’s begin.
