Welcome back to The Power of Permission.

Today we’re talking about one of the most important boundaries we can set in our modern world: permission to put down the phone.

Most of us don’t think of our phones as something we need boundaries with. They’re our calendars, our cameras, our connection to family, our work, our entertainment, and our source of information. But somewhere along the way, many of us stopped using our phones as tools—and started allowing them to shape our attention, our relationships, and even our peace.

Have you ever picked up your phone to check one text, only to look up twenty minutes later wondering where the time went? Have you ever sat across from someone you love while both of you were staring at separate screens? Have you ever felt anxious because your phone wasn’t nearby?

The truth is, our attention is one of God’s greatest gifts. Whatever consistently captures our attention will eventually shape our hearts.

Jesus was never rushed by interruptions, never distracted by the urgent demands around Him, and never confused availability with faithfulness. He made time to be fully present with the people in front of Him, and He regularly withdrew from the noise to be alone with the Father.

Maybe the greatest boundary you can set today isn’t saying no to another commitment.

Maybe it’s simply putting your phone down long enough to notice the people around you, hear God’s voice more clearly, and remember that your value isn’t measured by your responsiveness or your availability.

Today we’ll talk about why it’s so hard to disconnect, how technology can quietly steal our presence, and some practical, biblical rhythms that help us reclaim our attention.

Because the people who matter most deserve more than the leftovers of our attention.

And perhaps one of the most loving things you can do—for God, for others, and for yourself—is to give yourself permission to put down the phone.

Pull up a chair and let’s begin.
