  • EP10: The Missing Medicine for Midlife Men | Jason Lange
    2026/05/05

Jason Lange has spent years in the trenches of men's work, building communities where men actually show up for each other. He's the founder of Evolutionary Men, a men's embodiment coach, certified No More Mr. Nice Guy coach, and his core belief is that every man should be in a men's group.

In this conversation, we dig into the social valley that most men in midlife don't even know they're stuck in: why men stop making friends after 30, why loneliness shows up in ways we don't recognize, the lone wolf myth that's keeping men isolated, and what actually happens when a man gets into a room with other men who are having honest conversations.

  • Straight Sets: Recovery After 40
    2026/04/28

Your body doesn't recover the same way after 40. Testosterone drops. Growth hormone declines. Your recovery window stretches. And most men have no idea it's happening.

This is the first episode of Straight Sets, a new series where we cut the noise and give you what actually works. One topic, shorter format, something you can use this week.

Today I break down what changes in your body after 40, sort the most popular recovery methods into three tiers (skip it, nice to have, and non-negotiable), and give you the one thing to focus on this week.

  • The Explorer Within — Reigniting the Drive to Discover in Midlife
    2026/04/14

When was the last time you did something you'd never done before?

In this episode, Jonathan digs into what writer Christine Rosen calls the extinction of experience, the slow disappearance of direct, firsthand experience from modern life, and why it hits men in midlife the hardest. He tells the story of Theodore Roosevelt choosing an uncharted Amazon river over retirement at 55, Ranulph Fiennes summiting Everest at 65, and a middle-aged doctor who picked up a kayak paddle in his 40s and changed the sport forever.

Jonathan also shares his own experience at the Boulder Outdoor Survival School in southern Utah, where making fire without matches and catching a trout with his bare hands taught him that the gear he thought he needed was actually the thing standing between him and the experience he was looking for.

This episode lands with a practical challenge: before Labor Day, do one thing you've never done, go one place you've never been, and have one experience you can't research your way through in advance.

If this episode makes you want to move, share it with a man who's been sitting still too long. You know who he is.

  • Ep. 7: The Last Wall: Faith as the Floor Underneath Purpose
    2026/04/07

The most personal episode of Against the Fade yet. This is where the show goes deeper.

In the Foundation Series, we diagnosed the fade: physical decline, social isolation, emotional silence, and identity confusion converging on men in midlife. Episode 7 goes underneath all of it.

Jonathan tells the story of moving across the country in early 2020, watching a business fail during COVID, falling into a depression that nearly broke him, and finding something on the other side he'd been running from for twenty-five years. The episode explores faith as the x-factor in the mental valley: the floor underneath purpose and identity that most men either abandoned or never explored.

This episode draws on Emerson's "Self-Reliance," the perennial philosophy tradition, and Father Mike Schmitz's framework on cynicism vs. courage. It covers what faith actually gives a man in midlife: a floor under purpose, freedom from the tyranny of control, courage to stay in the fight, and the connection that ties all three valleys together.

If this episode meant something to you, send it to one man who needs to hear it. You know who he is.

  • Ep. 6: Becoming a Man of Value — The Prescription for Midlife (Foundation Series Finale)
    2026/03/31

The Foundation Series finale. This is the prescription.

For five weeks, we diagnosed the fade, the convergent crisis of physical decline, social isolation, emotional silence, and identity confusion hitting men in midlife. In this episode, we stop diagnosing and start building.

Jonathan introduces the Three Valleys framework, a first-principles model that maps the fade into three interconnected battlegrounds: the Physical Valley, the Social Valley, and the Mental Valley. He walks through the “asset or liability” question every man needs to answer, delivers a concrete valley-by-valley prescription, and lands the philosophical case for why your best years are not behind you.

This episode draws on Arthur Brooks’ research on crystallized intelligence, David Brooks’ first and second mountain framework, and Robert Bly’s warrior vs. soldier distinction.

If this series meant something to you, share it with one man who needs to hear it. You know who he is.

  • Episode 5: Your Body After 40
    2026/03/24

Starting around age 30, your testosterone drops about 1% per year. You lose 3–5% of your muscle mass per decade. Your metabolism slows. Your bones weaken. Your recovery takes longer. And nobody tells you that your approach to training has to change with it.

In this episode, I break down the five biological shifts happening inside your body after 40, make the evidence-based case for three types of training every man needs, and give you the practical framework to start training smarter — not harder — starting this week.

This is my wheelhouse. I’ve made a career out of helping men move better, get stronger, and stay healthy. This episode is the strategy briefing I wish someone had given me.

  • Reclaiming Masculinity: The Identity Nobody Gave You
    2026/03/17

Most men right now have no idea what they’re supposed to be.

One side of the culture says masculinity is the problem. The other side sells you a costume and calls it strength. Neither is real. And so you’re standing in the gap — knowing what you’re not, but not knowing what you are.

    That’s the identity fade.

In this episode, Jonathan breaks down how men lose themselves in midlife — when the roles that defined you start to shift, when “do I still matter?” starts carrying real weight, and when the culture offers two broken options and no real answers.

Then he lays out a different path: Masculinity as an asset. Four pillars — Protector, Provider, Builder, Mentor — that redefine strength as service, not performance.

This isn’t about going backward. It’s about going deeper.

  • The Silent Battle: Men and Mental Health
    2026/03/10

Men account for 80% of suicides in the United States — and the highest-risk group is men aged 45 to 65. Yet men are significantly less likely to seek help. Instead, they go silent.

In Episode 3, Jonathan breaks down the emotional fade — the slow process of going numb and calling it strength. Why men learn to suppress emotions starting in boyhood. What depression actually looks like in men (hint: it’s not always sadness). And six concrete things you can do to start fighting back — including finding a purpose worth fighting for.

If you recognized yourself in this episode, you’re not alone. Millions of men are in the same battle.
