What qualifications should guide a church when choosing its leaders?

In 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Paul teaches Timothy that spiritual leadership is not primarily about status, popularity, professional success or natural charisma. It is a noble work that requires Christlike character, spiritual maturity and a credible Christian witness.

In this sermon, Pastor Owen Smith explains that:

    • Church leadership is a sacred work, not a status symbol.
    • God looks first for Christlike character, not impressive charisma.
    • Spiritual leadership must be confirmed by a proven life.

The church belongs to Jesus Christ. Those entrusted with leadership are not owners of the house; they are servants called to care faithfully for what belongs to Christ.

    Scripture: 1 Timothy 3:1–7
Preached at: AFM Impact Christian Centre, Midrand, South Africa

    Key statement:
We are not choosing owners of the house. We are recognising servants who can be trusted with the keys.

    Matthew 6:25–32

Anxiety may visit your heart, knock loudly and return repeatedly—but it does not have to sit on the throne.

In Matthew 6, Jesus does not deny that our needs are real. He does not tell us to ignore our responsibilities, stop planning or pretend that everything is fine. Instead, He directs our attention to the faithful care of our heavenly Father.

    Jesus reminds us:

    • Your life is greater than the problem you are facing.
    • The Father who feeds the birds and clothes the flowers has not forgotten you.
    • Your heavenly Father already knows what you need.

Faith does not mean that we will never feel afraid. Faith means bringing our fears to the Father rather than allowing them to become our master.

The gospel does not say, “Stop worrying so that God will accept you.”

The gospel says, “Because you are accepted through Christ, you can bring your worries honestly to the Father.”

Jesus does not merely tell anxious people to calm down. Through His death and resurrection, He brings anxious people home to the Father.

So work faithfully. Plan wisely. Ask for help when you need it. Support others where you can. And entrust what you cannot control to the Father who knows, values and cares for you.

The Father’s care is not a reward for perfect faith. It is the ground upon which weak faith learns to stand.

This Sunday we began our July sermon series, Prayer & Provision: Learning to Trust the Father, from Matthew 6:19–24.

Jesus teaches us that money is never only about money. What we treasure shapes our hearts, influences how we see life, and ultimately reveals whom we truly serve.

Earthly possessions may be useful, but they make poor saviours. Wealth can disappear, circumstances can change, and everything we own is temporary. Only Jesus can carry the full weight of our identity, security and hope.

The question is not simply, “How much do I have?”
    The deeper question is:

    “What has my heart?”

May Christ become our greatest treasure, may His Kingdom direct our resources, and may our lives reveal that He alone is Lord.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:21

The Gospel is not the story of people finding God.

It is the story of a Father running toward lost sons and daughters.

The son came home with empty hands.
The father met him with open arms.

The robe. The ring. The sandals. The feast.

Everything was provided by the father.

    That is grace.
    That is the gospel.
That is the heart of our Heavenly Father.

    📖 Luke 15:20–32

Many men are willing to work hard for their families.

    The question is:

Are we willing to pray for them?

    📖 Job 1:1–5

Before Job faced tragedy, he built an altar.

Before the crisis came, he was already interceding.

Before the storm arrived, he was already seeking God.

Prayer is not just for emergencies.

    Prayer is spiritual leadership.

This week, don't wait for a problem before you pray.

    Pray over your marriage.
    Pray over your children.
    Pray over your future.
    Pray over your home.

A godly man prays before there is a crisis.

👣 WHERE ARE THE MEN? 👣

Our generation is asking difficult questions.

Where are the men who will lead their families in prayer?
Where are the men who will stand for truth when culture shifts?
Where are the men who will love, serve, protect, disciple, and sacrifice like Christ?

The crisis of our day is not merely political, economic, or social. It is a crisis of godly men who understand their calling before God.

This Month we will open God's Word and explore His design for biblical manhood—not through the lens of culture, but through the life and lordship of Jesus Christ.

    📖 "Where Are the Men?"
    📍 AFM Impact Midrand

Whether you are a man seeking direction, a wife praying for your husband, a mother raising sons, or a young person wondering what biblical manhood looks like, this message is for you.

The world does not need perfect men.
The world needs men who will follow Jesus.

🔗 PRAYER THAT BREAKS CHAINS 🔗

"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God..." (Acts 16:25)

The chains did not break because the prison doors opened. The prison doors opened because two believers chose to pray before they saw any evidence of change.

Prayer is not our last resort—it is our first response.

When the church prays, heaven moves. When heaven moves, chains break. When chains break, entire households can be transformed.

This week, do not allow fear, disappointment, or circumstances to silence your prayer life. Bring prayer out of the church building and into your home.

From the Upper Room to the Living Room.

Pentecost did not begin with power. It began with prayer.

In this Pentecost Sunday message from Acts 1–2, we see how the early church devoted themselves to prayer before the Holy Spirit was poured out upon them.

    This sermon explores:
    • The disciples’ dependence on God in the Upper Room
    • The coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost
    • How the Spirit empowers believers for witness and harvest

This is not merely a sermon about spiritual experience. It is a call back to dependence on Christ, Spirit-filled prayer, and kingdom mission.

Because when prayer and the Spirit come together… harvest follows.
