  • Death & Sex
    2025/12/12

Grief fucks with everything, including your sex drive. This week we're getting messy and honest about death and intimacy: how loss can send your libido into overdrive or kill it completely, why you might find yourself looking for physical connection in all the wrong places, and how your need for intimacy can get weaponized against you when you're vulnerable.

We talk about using sex as a coping mechanism, why we recommend taking a year off dating if you're single and grieving (spoiler: go to a support group instead), and how suicide loss survivors can struggle to believe they're even lovable because of the way they lost their person.

We also dive into International Suicide Loss Survivor Day: why it might be too much when you're freshly grieving but becomes incredibly healing later on. The support groups break you out by who you lost, the walks are a gentle way to dip your toe into community, and by year three, you might even find yourself laughing. Progress is real.

Plus: how to regulate your nervous system through positive self-talk and self-touch (yes, including masturbation), why it's hard to love yourself out loud when grief has you convinced you're unlovable, and how to ask yourself what you really need instead of reaching for casual intimacy. There's no wrong way to grieve, but learning from your mistakes and forgiving yourself matters.

Your homework: write a letter to your body. Women already go through enough—your body deserves some love. 💙

  • Grief Milestones: The Suckiveraries
    2025/11/21

Suckaversaries are our way of saying sucky anniversaries... like death days, birthdays, and holidays. With Thanksgiving around the corner, we're diving into the dates that suck the most when your person is missing and how to actually get through them.

This week we talk about why certain dates feel impossible, how to navigate family gatherings when you're barely holding it together, and the pressure to be "festive" when you're falling apart. We discuss the three main options for handling suck-versaries: redesign the day with new rituals, opt out entirely and skip it, or show up with boundaries and an exit plan. There's no right way to do this—only your way.

We share our own chaotic holiday stories, the traditions we abandoned vs. the ones we kept, and why it's okay to hate Thanksgiving (or any holiday) right now. Plus: how to deal with well-meaning relatives who don't get it, why some years are harder than others, and permission to grieve the person at the table while everyone else is passing the mashed potatoes.

If you're dreading the upcoming holidays, this episode is for you. You're not alone, and you don't have to pretend to be okay. 🦃💙

🧠 November is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month - let's keep the conversation going.

  • How Sad Girls Move On
    2025/11/14

This week we're debunking the bullshit idea that you're supposed to "get over it" from losing someone you love. Spoiler: you don't get over it. You move on AND you move forward, and there's a huge difference.

We talk about the pressure to be "better" by now, the people who tried to rush our grief, and why acceptance doesn't mean you've gotten over it. Aleksei shares how being with someone who didn't do the work pushed her to find support groups full of people who actually get it.

We dive into the tsunami parable about how grief is a wave you have to swim through not run from, and discuss finding "the gift" in loss without toxic positivity bullshit.

Plus: the importance of finding a therapist who matches your vibe, integrating your loss into real life, honoring your person with memorial jewelry, and the will to live when everything feels impossible.

Your grief timeline is yours. Anyone who fucks with it can fuck right off. 🎙️💙

  • Interview with Kevin Hines - Golden Gate Bridge Survivor & Mental Health Hero | Part 2 🌉💙
    2025/10/30

Part 2 of our conversation with Kevin Hines gets even deeper. Kevin finishes the story of how he met his wife Margaret (spoiler: he told her he was a volunteer at the psychiatric hospital, not a patient). We talk about tenacity, overcoming bullying and racism, and doing things when people tell you you can't. Then we get into the important stuff: why suicide isn't selfish - it's people in unbearable pain. Kevin introduces us to the term "brain pain" and explains how restrictions actually save lives. He championed the fight to get nets installed under the Golden Gate Bridge, battling the bridge authority for decades and he's even making a movie about it called "The Toll". We also discuss the discrimination people struggling with mental health face, the miracle sea lion named Herbert who saved Kevin's life, and the moment his dad took him back to the bridge for closure.

"When people feel valued, they do not take their lives." - Kevin Hines

This episode will change how you think about suicide prevention. 💙

  • Interview with Kevin Hines - Golden Gate Bridge Survivor & Mental Health Hero | Part 1 🌉💔
    2025/10/23

This is the episode we've been waiting to share. Kevin Hines is one of only 36 people (less than 1%) to survive jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. His story is raw, powerful, and proven to save lives 💪✨

In Part 1, Kevin shares his journey from his bipolar diagnosis to the day of his attempt, the instant regret he felt mid-fall, and the miraculous sea lion that kept him afloat until the Coast Guard arrived 🦭🌊 He also tells us about meeting his wife Margaret in the psychiatric hospital and the hilarious story of a priest who didn't believe he survived the jump 😂

Kevin's message is clear: suicide is not the answer. If you're struggling, say the magic words: "I need help now" 🤍

This conversation will make you laugh, cry, and believe in second chances 🎙️

  • Dumb Things People Say to Grievers
    2025/10/16

Have you ever wanted to throat-punch someone for telling you "everything happens for a reason" after your person died, but settled for an awkward smile instead? Welcome to our grief cliché roast! 🔥

In this grief support episode, Aleksei and Audra are tearing apart every toxic platitude and dumb things people say to grievers. We're dissecting the worst grief advice including:

    • "Everything happens for a reason"

    • "They're in a better place"

    • "You're so strong"

    • "Just get over it"

    • "Time heals all wounds"

    • "God needed another angel"

Learn what NOT to say to someone grieving and what to say instead. This grief podcast episode covers setting boundaries with toxic positivity, dealing with loss, and coping with grief after losing a loved one.

But this becomes something more. Watch as two advanced grievers have a beautiful discovery moment about grief healing—realizing that while they carry scars, they've healed from their losses and relinquished guilt, shame, regret, and the unanswerable question of "why." They explore the grief journey and how to let love back into the void left behind by bereavement.

This is grief validation, real talk about mourning, and profound revelations about what healing actually looks like after loss.

  • Grief Brain & Panic Attacks : Making Simple Tasks Impossible Since 2017
    2025/10/09

Ever brushed your teeth with deodorant or had a panic attack because you lost your keys… that were in your hand? Welcome to the glamorous world of grief brain — where memory, focus, and logic go to die.

In this episode, Aleksei and Audra get real (and ridiculous) about what happens when grief hijacks your brain and your body. From panic attacks in the grocery store to forgetting what day it is mid-sentence, we unpack why trauma turns your nervous system into a drama queen and your mind into a full-blown sitcom.

We’ll laugh, overshare, and offer a few survival tips for when your brain decides to peace out and your body starts sounding the alarm. Because healing is hard — but it’s also hilarious when you realize you’re not the only one crying in a Trader Joe’s parking lot.

  • Why Sad Girls Self-Destruct
    2025/10/02

Ever grieved so hard you woke up with a mysterious tattoo and a credit card bill that could fund a small country? In this episode we're getting brutally honest about the expensive, messy, and spectacularly unhealthy ways we cope when life goes to shit. We'll explore why "self-care" sometimes looks suspiciously like self-sabotage, share our most questionable coping decisions, and offer some actually helpful alternatives that don't require explaining yourself to your bank or your liver. Think of it as a survival guide for when your healing journey takes a detour through the land of poor life choices. Tune in and take what you need.
