Suckaversaries are our way of saying sucky anniversaries... like death days, birthdays, and holidays. With Thanksgiving around the corner, we're diving into the dates that suck the most when your person is missing and how to actually get through them.
This week we talk about why certain dates feel impossible, how to navigate family gatherings when you're barely holding it together, and the pressure to be "festive" when you're falling apart. We discuss the three main options for handling suck-versaries: redesign the day with new rituals, opt out entirely and skip it, or show up with boundaries and an exit plan. There's no right way to do this—only your way.
We share our own chaotic holiday stories, the traditions we abandoned vs. the ones we kept, and why it's okay to hate Thanksgiving (or any holiday) right now. Plus: how to deal with well-meaning relatives who don't get it, why some years are harder than others, and permission to grieve the person at the table while everyone else is passing the mashed potatoes.
