  • Kenya Series: Redefining The Paramedic: Kenya's Journey Toward Clinical Identity - The Next Generation: Shaping the Future of Kenyan Paramedicine
    2026/10/04

As we reach the final episode of our 120 Podcast Kenya series, we bring back four voices from different stages of Kenya’s developing paramedic profession to look beyond where we are today and ask: What could the future of EMS and paramedicine in Kenya look like?

In this important conversation, we explore the infrastructure challenges affecting emergency response, workforce development and retention, the paramedic role including professional recognition, policy and regulatory barriers, education and clinical exposure, and the opportunities available to young professionals entering the field.

We also discuss the importance of research in developing an evidence base for Kenyan prehospital care, and how universities, hospitals, government and non-governmental organisations can work together to strengthen emergency care.

Looking further ahead, our guests share their vision for Kenya’s EMS system and the paramedic profession over the next 5–10 years, before offering advice to current paramedic students and recent graduates who will play an important role in shaping the profession.

Joining us for the final part of this conversation with our four recurring guests:

    🇰🇪 George Amolo

Co-founder & Acting President of the Paramedic Association of Kenya (TPAK), bringing a leadership and professional perspective on the development of paramedicine and EMS in Kenya.

    🇰🇪 Jeffrey Tindi

Sharing his perspective on paramedicine, emergency care and the continued development and recognition of the profession in Kenya.

    🇰🇪 Wangechi King

A final-year paramedic student, bringing the perspective of the emerging workforce and her experiences of the evolving role of paramedics and the future of emergency care.

    🇰🇪 Blessing Atetwe Kwamboka

A recent BSc Paramedic graduate, representing the next generation of Kenyan paramedics and sharing her perspective on entering a developing profession.

From infrastructure and regulation, to education, research, collaboration and professional identity, this episode looks at what needs to happen next — and, importantly, how the people working and studying within the profession can help shape that future.

The future of Kenyan paramedicine will be built by the people willing to develop it, research it, advocate for it and ultimately deliver it.

  • Kenya Series: Redefining The Paramedic - Kenya's Journey Toward Clinical Identity: Building the Foundations of Emergency Care in Kenya
    2026/09/20

Welcome back to the 120 Podcast.

This is Part 2 and a continuation of last week’s episode in our series exploring “Redefining the Paramedic: Kenya’s Journey Toward Clinical Identity.”

In this episode, “Building the Foundations of Emergency Care in Kenya,” we take a step back and look at the wider emergency care system — asking what is needed to create an accessible, sustainable and clinically capable EMS system across Kenya.

From funding and access to emergency care, to the current state of paramedicine, infrastructure limitations, system gaps and the challenges facing the EMS workforce, we explore some of the key issues shaping the future of emergency care in Kenya.

Joining us for this important conversation are four fantastic guests:

    🇰🇪 George Amolo

Co-founder & Acting President of the Paramedic Association of Kenya (TPAK)

    🇰🇪 Jeffrey Tindi

Bringing his perspective on paramedicine, emergency care and the development of the profession in Kenya.

    🇰🇪 Wangechi King

Sharing her experience as a final year student and perspective on the evolving role of paramedics and the future of emergency care.

    🇰🇪 Blessing Atetwe Kwamboka

A recent BSc Paramedic graduate, bringing the perspective of the next generation of Kenyan paramedics.

Together, we explore an important question:

What needs to change to build a stronger, more accessible and sustainable emergency care system in Kenya — and where does the paramedic fit within that future?

This conversation looks beyond the ambulance itself and considers the wider foundations required to support emergency care.

This is more than a conversation about ambulances.

It is a conversation about people, systems, professional identity and the future of emergency care.

    2026/09/06

In this episode, “Redefining Equity,” we explore what equity really means within Emergency Medical Services and paramedicine in Kenya. From access to quality prehospital care and educational opportunities to professional recognition, resources, regulation and the realities faced by communities and frontline providers, we ask whether the current EMS system is truly equitable — and what needs to change.

Joining us are four voices offering different perspectives on this journey: George Amolo, co-founder and Acting President of the Paramedic Association of Kenya (TPAK); Wangechi King, a healthcare professional and advocate for EMS development and professional growth; Jeffrey Tindi, a paramedic with more than six years of frontline experience across Kenya; and Blessing Atetwe Kwamboka, a recent paramedic graduate bringing the perspective of the next generation.

Together, they explore the barriers, inequalities and opportunities shaping Kenyan EMS, and consider how we can redefine equity to build a stronger, more inclusive and sustainable future for paramedicine across Kenya and Africa.
