ミンさんは、ベトナムから来た留学生です。ルームメイトのリサさんと大学の寮の二人部屋に住んでいます。二人はとても仲が良いですが、お互いにちょっとだけ困っていることもあるようです。「リサさん、来月、大事な試験があるので、今勉強が忙しいんです。夜、あまり大きい音で音楽を聞かないでほしいんですが…」「私の部屋の音楽、ミンさんの部屋まで聞こえていたんですか。すみません、知りませんでした。今日からは気をつけます。あ、そういえば、昨日お風呂の電気がついたままになっていました。時々電気がついたままなので、気を付けてほしいです。」「あ、ごめんなさい。いつも急いでいるときに忘れてしまうんです。気を付けます。」「じゃあ、明日は朝早くから予定があるので、今日はもう寝ますね。あ、ミンさん、いつも早起きですよね？明日の朝6時半に起こしてほしいんですが…」「いいですよ。私は毎朝6時に起きていますから。あ、もしかして、私のアラームの音もうるさいですか。音を小さくしてほしかったら、教えてくださいね。」「いえいえ、私は大きいアラームの音でも起きられませんから、ミンさんの部屋からの音も全然聞こえません。大丈夫ですよ。」「ははは、それなら良かったです。あ、明日は燃えるゴミの日ですね。朝、ゴミ出しを手伝ってほしいんですが、いいですか。」「もちろんです。明日の朝一緒にやりましょう。じゃあ、おやすみなさい。」【鳥の声】次の日の朝、ミンさんはいつも通り6時に起きました。そして6時半にリサさんを起こしに行きました。「リサさん、おはようございます。6時半ですよ。」「んん…まだ眠い…」「起こしてほしいと言ったのは、リサさんですよ。さあ、起きて！」「あと5分…」そう言って、リサさんはまた寝てしまいました。

12月のことを、古い日本語で「師走」と言います。「師走」という言葉の本当の意味は、はっきりはわかりません。でも、ひとつめの漢字「師」は先生やお坊さんなど、何かを教える人のことで、ふたつめの漢字「走」は走るという意味ですから、「師走」は「先生も走るほど、忙しい月」という意味だと思っている人が多いです。では、どうして日本の12月は忙しいのでしょうか。まず、日本人は新しい1年の始まりをとても大切にします。1年の始まりをお正月といって、家族でお祝いします。そのお正月のために12月に色々な準備をしなければいけません。たとえば、家や職場で、いつも掃除しないところもしっかりと掃除をして綺麗にする「大掃除」をします。それから、お正月の飾りを準備したり、お正月に食べる料理を準備したりします。お正月の料理には、「お雑煮」という餅が入っているスープや、色々な伝統料理を詰め合わせたカラフルな「おせち料理」などがあります。また、1年の終わりに、友達や会社の同僚と、「忘年会」というパーティーをする人もいます。色々な人に会ったり、たくさん買い物をしたり、家でもたくさん準備をしたりしますから、12月は忙しくなります。皆さんの国や地域では、12月はどんな月ですか。たくさんイベントがありますか。1年の終わりや始まりを、大切にしますか。ぜひ、コメントしてみてくださいね。
