  • You Are Enough!
    2025/10/10

In this episode of the "Soul Shift Sessions Podcast," titled "You Are Enough!", hosts Coach Sapphire Starr and Coach Kyle McCloud engage in a transformative conversation about self-worth, vulnerability, and personal growth.

Kyle shares his journey of realizing he was "hustling for his worthiness," a concept he learned from Brené Brown's work, particularly her audiobook "The Power of Vulnerability." He explains that this hustle manifests as trying to fit in and constantly replaying past arguments, feeling the need to "win" to prove his worth. He connects this behavior to his childhood experiences of being bullied and feeling unsafe, leading him to make himself "invisible."

Sapphire relates to this, sharing her experience of building emotional barriers after a toxic marriage, realizing it blocked not only pain but also love, acceptance, and healing. They discuss how these coping mechanisms, while serving a purpose in the past, can become an "invisible prison" that prevents desired outcomes, like finding a relationship.

The conversation shifts to the importance of aligning actions with desires and creating space for what one wants. They emphasize that while intention and manifestation are important, action is crucial. Kyle highlights the role of "feeling" in this process, using the analogy of a basketball player feeling "in the zone."

Towards the end, Kyle shares a pivotal moment from a men's retreat with Mike Reese where a "mirror work" exercise led to a profound conversation with his "own soul," freeing him from the need for external validation. Sapphire expresses her appreciation for Kyle's vulnerability, especially as a Black man, and emphasizes the importance of men giving themselves permission to feel. They conclude by reinforcing the message that "you are enough."

  • Expand Your Territory! How to Think Big in Life
    2025/10/10

In this episode of the Soul Shift Sessions podcast, hosts Coach Sapphire Star and Coach Kyle McLoud discuss what it means to "think big" in life.

They begin by defining "thinking big" as having no limits and thinking beyond current perceptions. Coach Kyle shares a personal anecdote about how his idea of "big" evolved from his college choices to working in Bermuda, where he saw how students there had the whole world as their option for university. This illustrates that "thinking big" can simply mean expanding your territory beyond your current circumstances or pursuing what sets you on fire, even if it's settling down and enjoying family. They challenge the societal notion, especially perpetuated by social media, that a family-focused life is meaningless.

The discussion then shifts to the importance of action and learning from setbacks. Coach Kyle shares his experience from a challenging bike ride, highlighting how his mindset influenced the outcome and the importance of hydration. Coach Sapphire adds that she approaches experiences with a "learn attitude," turning perceived losses into wins because she gains knowledge.

They emphasize that "thinking big" is a cultivated process, like planting a seed that needs nurturing and weeding out negative thoughts. A key question to ask is, "What do you want?" They urge listeners to focus on this desire without judgment, imagining how it will feel and consistently moving towards it.

The hosts also discuss the influence of adversity in fueling bigger picture thinking and the danger of living in scarcity by constantly focusing on external factors rather than personal beliefs and goals. They reiterate the importance of continually asking "What do I want?" as individuals are always evolving, and how sometimes societal influences can cloud one's true desires.

Finally, they highlight that playing big is bigger than oneself, influencing lineage, community, and even the world. Coach Sapphire shares how her desire for freedom of time and finances has created a legacy for her daughter and grandchild, showing them they are not bound by their surroundings and can pursue their dreams. They conclude by encouraging listeners to reflect on their desires and how they can play big, emphasizing that the world needs them to do so.

  • The Power of the Pivot: How to Embrace Change and Thrive
    2025/10/08

In this episode, "The Power of the Pivot: How to Embrace Change and Thrive," features hosts Coach Kyle McCloud and Coach Sapphire Star discussing the concepts of change and pivoting.

    Key discussion points include:

    • Defining Change and Pivoting: Kyle initially expresses his dislike for change, identifying as a creature of habit who seeks structure when faced with inevitable changes. Sapphire differentiates pivoting from change, explaining that pivoting is a conscious choice to alter direction when a current strategy isn't working, often requiring overcoming self-doubt and attachment to the original plan.
    • Personal Experiences with Pivoting: Both hosts share personal stories to illustrate their points. Kyle discusses the logistical challenges he faced after his father's passing, which forced him into a period of intense task orientation. Sapphire shares her experience with divorce, highlighting the societal pressures and internal struggles she faced in accepting that her initial "happily ever after" plan wasn't working and making the decision to move on from a toxic relationship.
    • Navigating Pivots and Thriving: The hosts emphasize that pivoting, while not always fun, involves taking one step at a time. They touch upon the societal perception of "failure" associated with major life changes like divorce and the internal conflict arising from personal beliefs, particularly those influenced by religious upbringing. Despite the difficulties, they assert that these challenging experiences often lead to unexpected positive outcomes, such as new relationships and opportunities.
    • Challenges and Mindset: They discuss how being in the midst of a pivot can make it difficult to recognize that one is actually thriving. Sapphire shares an anecdote about losing power for three days and choosing a positive perception over despair, highlighting the importance of shifting mindset. Kyle emphasizes the value of having supportive individuals in one's life who can offer guidance and "check" one's perspective during difficult times.
    • Forgiveness and Self-Compassion: A crucial aspect of embracing change is forgiveness, especially self-forgiveness. The hosts argue that society often trains individuals to be self-critical and that it's essential to "let yourself off the hook" by recognizing that past decisions were made with the best available information and emotional maturity at the time.
    • The Power of Now and Choice: They stress the importance of being present and focusing on the "now" rather than constantly looking ahead. The conversation repeatedly returns to the theme of choice—how beliefs and thoughts influence actions and results, and that pivoting is a deliberate choice to break limiting cycles.
    • Making Decisions and Taking Action: The hosts discuss the human desire for a "crystal ball" to ensure correct decisions. Kyle introduces the idea of proceeding with a decision if one is 70% sure it will work out, while Sapphire counters that her approach involves "burning the ships"—committing fully once a decision is made, with no thought of retreat.
    • Financial Pivots and Mindset: The conversation shifts to financial well-being, noting that financial challenges are often symptoms of deeper issues like limiting beliefs rooted in childhood experiences or societal conditioning. They advocate for shifting from a scarcity to an abundance mindset and being intentional about language around money, especially with children.
    • Proactive vs. Reactive: The episode concludes by emphasizing the importance of being proactive rather than reactive in life's circumstances. Kyle shares his quote: "Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you respond to it," leading to a debate about whether reactions are always a choice, even if one isn't consciously aware of making them. Ultimately, they agree that pivoting requires change, choice, forgiveness, and taking action, and that it's up to each individual to decide whether to be proactive or reactive.

  • Building Confidence & Self Esteem
    2025/10/07

In this episode "Building Confidence & Self Esteem," features hosts Coach Sapphire Star and Coach Kyle McCloud discussing how to build confidence and self-esteem.

Kyle shares his personal journey of overcoming low self-esteem and confidence, tracing it back to a significant change in his family's living situation at age eight. He explains how a shift from a large, supportive family environment to a smaller, less supportive one led him to develop a protective mechanism of becoming "invisible" to avoid pain and attention. This avoidance later manifested in adulthood as people-pleasing and suppressing emotions. His turning point came when he was shown these patterns, leading him to self-development work, journaling, and attending a men's retreat that helped him resolve deep-seated issues.

Sapphire shares a similar experience, detailing how growing up in a large household led her to seek comfort in the "shadows" to avoid being seen or heard. Her struggles with a congenital eye condition further contributed to bullying and a desire to cower. She explains how this survival mechanism continued into her adult life, where she hid behind accomplishments rather than embracing her authentic self. Her breakthrough came from realizing her unique identity and embracing self-acceptance.

Both hosts emphasize that building confidence and self-esteem involves:

    • Identifying limiting beliefs: Recognizing the thoughts and beliefs that hinder personal growth.
    • Choosing new thoughts: Actively deciding to replace negative beliefs with empowering ones.
    • Taking action: Implementing new behaviors aligned with these chosen beliefs, which can look different for everyone.
    • Cultivating beliefs: Nurturing these new beliefs by surrounding oneself with supportive environments, reading relevant materials, and guarding against distractions like excessive social media.

They conclude by defining confidence as trusting oneself and not being afraid to be wrong, highlighting that this journey is ongoing and requires continuous effort.

  • Overcoming Imposter Syndrome
    2025/10/07

"Overcoming Imposter Syndrome," defines imposter syndrome as a psychological pattern causing people to doubt their accomplishments and fear their own abilities, leading to self-doubt and anxiety. Coach Sapphire Starr & Coach Kyle McCloud discuss how societal conditioning, particularly for certain groups, can lead to diminishing one's own achievements, often comparing oneself to others.

They propose several strategies for overcoming imposter syndrome:

    • Affirmations: Using positive statements to counteract negative self-talk, even if the affirmations initially feel far from current beliefs. They suggest a gradual approach, building momentum with affirmations that are slightly higher than current thoughts but still resonate as true.
    • Vulnerability with others: Having a trusted person in your life who can offer a "reality check" and empathize without judgment.
    • Self-reality check (Dark Letter): A personal journaling technique where one writes down all negative thoughts and emotions (often directed at someone else), then reframes and reality-checks those thoughts within the same letter before deleting it. This process helps to release negative feelings without impacting others.
    • The Three C's Strategy:

      1. Consciousness/Acknowledging: Recognizing negative thoughts but not dwelling on them.
      2. Challenging: Questioning the validity of self-doubts and reframing them with evidence of past accomplishments.
      3. Celebrating: Actively acknowledging and celebrating wins, no matter how small, and learning to receive compliments without diminishing them.

Sapphire & Kyle also emphasize the importance of being comfortable with "not knowing everything" and accepting that it's okay to be incorrect. They conclude by discussing the profound impact of shifting from doubt to belief, and the freedom that comes from letting go of attachments to how things "should" happen, allowing for more possibilities and joy in life.
