あらすじ・解説
Children who don't learn to read by the fourth grade are likely to be plagued by reading problems their entire life. Producer Gemma Hooley explores the research which has shown that learning to read is complex, involving neurological and sociological processes. She speaks with Dr. G. Reid Lyon, chief of the child development and behavior branch of the NICHD, the National Institute of Child Health and Development, at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Melissa Wright-Ross, who leads the emerging literacy program at the Institute, discusses reading strategies for parents. Despite the research’s insights, reading averages in schools continue to drop. Some educators believe that the trend can be reversed, with the help of technology. Web of Letters presents some of these interactive technologies and the role they play in today's schools by helping the students and the teachers. Learn the A, B, C's in Web of Letters.Web of Letters is part of a Soundprint special series called The Education Connection, about the early introduction of technology into the classroom. The series is supported in part by the U.S. Department of Education.
