A woman is taken to a secluded country house to recover from what her husband calls a nervous condition. Confined to an upstairs room and forbidden to work, write, or exert herself, she has little left to occupy her mind except the room around her—and the strange yellow wallpaper she cannot stop watching.

As the days pass, the wallpaper's chaotic pattern begins to change. What first seems merely ugly becomes disturbing, then impossible to ignore. Alone with her thoughts and increasingly separated from the people around her, the narrator begins to see something moving beneath the surface.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman's The Yellow Wall-Paper is a landmark of psychological horror and feminist literature, combining confinement, unreliable perception, Gothic atmosphere, and social criticism in a story that remains unsettling more than a century after its first publication.

This audiobook presents Gilman's story in a modern English adaptation, using clear, natural contemporary language while preserving the central story, atmosphere, and meaning of the original. Alongside the narrative, this edition includes an original companion afterword exploring the story's themes, symbolism, ending, historical context, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman's life and ideas.

Professionally narrated by Luke Meinier Dalofin, this edition is designed for listeners who want to experience the story itself and then go deeper into the ideas and imagery that make it endure.
