What happens when a society decides that survival depends on narrowing the truth?

In the towering prison-city of Eterra, order is maintained not through spectacle or open brutality, but through clean hands, quiet rooms, and the careful rationing of reality. Truth is never simply forbidden. It is measured, softened, corrected, and distributed only in forms the population can survive.

Seran has been raised to believe in that system.

A rising young doctrinal officer, Seran is disciplined, intelligent, and disturbingly good at his work. He believes civilization survives because someone is willing to make terrible decisions in the name of stability. His duty is simple: classify instability, contain fear, and preserve the fragile balance that keeps the city from collapsing into panic.

Then a routine domestic intervention changes everything.

Called to a lower-sector dwelling after reports of erratic behavior, Seran expects grief, exhaustion, or superstition. Instead, he finds a terrified mother and a frightened boy whose distress manifests as impossible cold. Frost forms where it should not. The air changes. The walls seem to listen. And when Seran makes one choice of hesitation instead of following procedure, the result is catastrophic.

A corridor breaches.

A patrolman dies.

The mother is destroyed.

And the child is taken into the inward machinery of the state.

What should have become just another sealed report begins to haunt him. As Seran follows the aftermath deeper into the city, he uncovers a hidden architecture of control beneath Eterra’s polished surface: buried observation chambers, erased archives, sanctioned corrections, and a machinery of power designed not merely to suppress dangerous truths, but to absorb them, rename them, and put them back to work.
